I'm a newcomer to Freida Fiction. Her novels fly off the library shelves, so when NetGalley offered me the audiobook of her latest, I decided it was time to see what the fuss is about. My first impression? The plot is fast-paced, twisty, and entertaining. Was it memorable fiction, a novel I will reflect upon or gain insight into the human condition? No, but it was fun to read! Krista is the girl of Blake's dreams. He can see himself making a life with her, having a family, growing old together, but in an instant, life makes a sharp turn for them and the gaslighting begins. To make ends meet, they decide to take a tenant into their home until Blake can find a new job and shore up their finances and their future. Whitney has solid references, and all indications suggest she will be a trouble-free renter. At first, little things disturb the peace of Blake and Krista's home - things missing from the kitchen, food consumed, late night noise - but the problems quickly escalate. Krista seems to have a ready explanation for everything, but Blake is losing patience, and maybe his sanity. Some (maybe a little more than some) of the plot is downright silly, but in the name of entertainment, I went along with it. The narrators, Will Damron and Christine Lakin, are exceptional at creating tension and keeping the reader listening. Freida Fans who can't get enough of her novels will enjoy this latest.

Classic Freida! If you are normally a fan, you'll enjoy this one! Entertaining suspense and build-up, similar formula to her other works. Will definitely be a quick read for book clubs! Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Select!

Wow Freida has done it yet again! I love all the twists and turns. I always think I know what's going to happen but of course I am wrong! Easy five stars!

Blake just got promoted to VP at his firm, his girlfriend Krista said yes to his proposal, and they were able to move into the Manhattan brownstone of their dreams. Then it all slips away.

He's accused of stealing and fired from work. Krista suggests they get a tenant to cover costs. Enter Whitney. She works at the local diner and seems friendly enough...until strange things occur. There are fruit flies hovering in the kitchen, he's developed a weird rash over his body, and there's no milk or cereal left for him in the morning! He knows it's all Whitney's doing, but why is she doing it? To make matters worse Krista thinks she's great and he's paranoid. Is she right?

This audiobook is a must if you are a Freida McFadden fan. It's got all the WTF twists we expect but, as a bonus, it's also got the incomparable voice actor Will Damron as Blake. No one does slow unhinged panic like him. You feel his frantic energy coming out of your headphones. Then voice actress Christine Helen Lakin is a revelation as she balances the curious lives of Krista and Whitney.

Like in her best seller, The Teacher, your mind spirals as the truth is revealed, but once again, this writer is not done, because she's got one last gotcha moment at the very end that is a stunner. The Tenant will live rent free in your head long after the end.

No one can Freida like Freida can! The Tenant is classic Freida with a scenario that starts off very innocently before all heck breaks loose and then you are white knuckling it until the last page.

The MMC seems as if he is having the worst luck ever as he and his fiancee navigate his being fired, planning a wedding and paying for their huge Brownstone. It would make sense to split the cost of living with a tenant and that is where the story takes off.

Freida has you guessing and presents characters in ways that you don't quite know who to trust but you do know nothing is what it seems.

If you love the sinister feeling and wild ride that Freida's books give, you will not be disappointed in this selection.

Audio Book Review - Narrators Will Damron and Christine Lakin offer a wonderful performance with edge of the seat style narration! The suspense, twists and finally the mad end are delivered in a manner that had me hooked. The tones of Will kept the story flowing!

Wow! I don't think I could love this book more than I do. Not typical for a males POV in Freida books, but I thought it was well done. His humor undertones made him very likable and I was feeling sorry for him for sure.
The twists just kept coming at me at the end and I'm so glad I was able to get a chance to hear the story!

After being wrongly terminated from his lucrative job, Blake is struggling to make the payment on his new home. His live-in fiancée suggests getting a tenant for the extra bedroom in their house. Despite the bad feeling he has about having to share a bathroom, kitchen, and living space with a stranger, Blake agrees. Whitney, the new tenant, seems perfect at first, but then things quickly escalate when stuff goes missing and strange new things show up. Blake, riddled with the stress of his new tenant's lifestyle and his lack of promising job offers, thinks he's losing his mind. Is it him - or her that's the crazy one?

Unlike McFadden's other books, this one disappointingly ends with a villain monologue explaining why and how everything happened. The shock factor that I've come to love and expect from McFadden is no where to be found in this book.

I said that I would never read another Freida McFadden book after her last release, but here I am, reviewing her newest installment.
I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised with part one. It was engaging, and while the characters were annoying, it's a thriller, so that's alright. What I didn't like is that we got a different point of view in part two that literally explained everything and took away any mystery. The epilogue was completely unnecessary.
I listened to the audiobook version of this release and really liked it. The narrators were enjoyable to listen to.

I did not see this twist coming. The way this book all fell together and worked itself out. Amazing.

Frieda is not my favorite. All her books are the same…but she is a master at creating wicked characters and evil deeds. And this book is just that.

Whitney played her part well. She went after Blake with a vengeance. And believe me, as a reader, you didn’t know if he was losing it or if she was really creating the chaos.

Then there is a twist…and you will have to read this to find out.

The narrators, Will Damron; Christine Helen Lakin, did a great job with the suspense and drama in this tale. I love a good tag team!

One more chapter. Just one more chapter. This is what you’ll be saying to yourself again and again once you start reading or listening to Freida McFadden’s newest novel: The Tenant. I don’t know how she does it, but McFadden just has a way of crafting insanely engaging stories with some seriously twisted characters.

Blake had it all…emphasis on HAD. A great job, plenty of money, and he’s engaged to the woman of his dreams. But just like that he begins to lose it all. Being fired from his job is just the start of the downward spiral. In need of money, he agrees to rent out a room in his brownstone. After interviewing a series of bizarre potential tenants, Blake and his fiancee settle on Whitney, a young woman who seems completely normal. But could this be a case of ‘looks can be deceiving’? For Blake his life has become a descent into madness or his own personal hell. The fast chapters and constant upping of stakes, kept me listening. I nearly listened to the entire thing in a single sitting. The story reminded me a bit of the movie Pacific Heights from the 90s. The story is narrated by Will Damron with Christine Helen Lakin and they do a fantastic job. McFadden never disappoints and while The Housemaid remains my favorite, this wasn’t that far behind. McFadden fans will not be disappointed. I’d like to thank Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to an advanced copy of the audio version of The Tenant.

This book had me nervous and anxious in the best way. This one takes a slight detour from her usual psychological thrillers and dives into the world of domestic suspense. It's a slower burn, but the tension builds like a pressure cooker, and once it hits, there’s no turning back.

The Tenant follows Blake Porter, who’s having the worst streak imaginable. He loses his job, money’s drying up fast, and to stay afloat, he decides to rent a room in the home he shares with his fiancée. Enter Whitney, the new tenant from hell. She eats all their food, uses detergent that gives Blake a rash (yes, seriously), and somehow manages to wedge herself into every part of Blake’s life, threatening his relationship and unraveling his sanity.

The suspense here doesn’t rely on flashy twists—it’s all about the slow, creeping dread of watching someone’s life fall apart from the inside out. That said, it’s classic McFadden that you’ll want to keep listening past when you meant to stop.

The audiobook narration deserves a special mention. The voice actors bring real life to these characters, especially Blake’s perspective, which had me genuinely anxious more than once. Their performances added so much depth and urgency to the story—it’s one of those listens that feels like you're inside someone else's unraveling world.

If you enjoy a thriller with a more personal, domestic edge, The Tenant is a must-add to your listening list.

Bingeable, tightly written, and just the right kind of unsettling. 4.5 Stars!

It’s insane just how quickly Freida can churn out great books! This latest (out today!) is no exception. Blake Porter has everything he could want in life…until it all comes crashing down. When he’s fired from his high-paying job, he and his fiancée take on a roommate to help cover the mortgage and make ends meet. Whitney is their ideal tenant but something is amiss. Blake finds himself at odds with her, a growing smell of decay in the house, and rising tensions with his fiancée who has no issues with Whitney. One has to wonder…is he imagining things or is this truly a tenant set to ruin his life, and if so, why?
The audiobook narrators did a great job, especially portraying Blake’s seeming descent into madness and despair.

I’m a big fan of Freida McFadden, so I knew what I was getting into—and The Tenant didn’t disappoint. I expected some twists, and while I guessed a few, there were still moments that totally threw me (in the best way).

The red flags? Endless. The narration? Perfect. The pacing? Fast enough to keep you flying through chapters.

If thrillers are your thing, this one’s a must-read!!

When I got picked for this ARC, I literally screamed. Freida is my favorite thriller author, so I was so excited. But even though I was excited, I’m still giving this an honest review, as always.

Freida McFadden seriously never misses. she kills it every single time (no pun intended 😅). Every book she writes pulls me in immediately, and The Tenant is no different. It’s creepy, fast-paced, and honestly just so addicting. I flew through it.

All I’ll say is..a guy takes in a new tenant to help with bills, and things start getting weird. Like, seriously unsettling. You think you know where it’s going... and then BOOM..classic Freida twist. I gasped.

This one’s a quick, bingeable read with that perfect mix of mystery, suspense, and “what the heck is happening?!” energy. If you love short thrillers that keep you guessing, this needs to be on your TBR. 5 stars, no question. Whether you’re a longtime fan or new to Freida McFadden’s books, this one won’t disappoint.

Frieda McFadden’s books have almost been like comfort food for me. I turn to them when I need something good, and she almost never disappoints. Her last book, The Crash, was one of the rare disappointments for me, so I came into The Tenant looking for her to wow me and save me from her last release. 

Fortunately, The Tenant was thrilling, fun, and an easy book to power through. I enjoyed the story and found it so easy to be sucked into the world. 

Blake just lost his job, and money is tight after his recent purchase of a Manhattan brownstone.  His finance tells him they should bring a tenant in to help recoup some of their monthly cost. That brings in Whitney. 

At first, Blake and Whitney seem to get along; they even flirt a little, but then they become enemies. They are in a constant battle in the house, and in typical Frieda fashion, you are left wondering who is the crazy one. 

What held this book back for me is that I felt this one was a little obvious, but also I hated how it was revealed. The twist was just a little too convenient, and I found myself rolling my eyes at the reveal. Even though I have those negative feelings, that doesn’t take away from my enjoyment of the book. As always, this is an expertly crafted thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat and make you feel uncomfortable every turn of the page. 

The Tenant is a great thriller I would recommend to everyone, and personally, this was a great bounce back from her last release.

When Blake lost his high paying job, he and his fiance Krista decide to take on a tenant but what unfolds is not what they ever imagined. I don't want to give anytime away but the big twist had my jaw hitting the floor! I finished this one (like I do with most of her books) in less than a day. I definitely recommend this one.

I couldn't stand the narrator. He was dry and non engaging. I couldbt get past the 2nd chapter. I'll try reading the actual book as it looked good.

Intriguing thriller that touches on subjects of revenge, privilege, betrayal and dark secrets that of course will come back to haunt you. All the characters as usual seem so real to life.

It felt like it started off a little slow for me, but the pace of course picked up as we got more into Blake’s psyche. It was refreshing to have a male POV because I feel it’s more woman dominated usually.

This is as per usual for Freida binge worthy! I really enjoyed myself overall.
