Reinventing the Leader: How to Change Yourself to Change Your Company by Guilherme Loureiro and Carlos E. Marin, narrated by Thom Rivera

In Reinventing the Leader, Guilherme Loureiro and Carlos E. Marin offer more than a corporate playbook—they deliver a candid, dual-perspective narrative on what it truly takes to lead transformation from the inside out. Told through the lens of Loureiro, the Regional CEO of Walmex, and his executive coach Marin, this audiobook is part memoir, part manual, and wholly relevant in an era where leadership is measured not just by results, but by resilience and reinvention.

The story centers on Loureiro’s bold decision to overhaul Walmex—Walmart’s largest international division—into a data-driven, customer-centric powerhouse. But the twist is this: the transformation begins not with strategy decks or org charts, but with Loureiro himself. Marin’s coaching becomes the crucible through which Loureiro confronts his blind spots, recalibrates his leadership style, and learns to lead with purpose rather than position.

Thom Rivera’s narration is a quiet triumph. He brings warmth and clarity to the material, balancing the introspective tone of Loureiro’s personal journey with the pragmatic cadence of Marin’s insights. Rivera’s delivery makes the audiobook feel less like a lecture and more like a fireside conversation—one where vulnerability and vision coexist.

What sets this audiobook apart is its refusal to separate personal growth from organizational change. The “twelve warnings” embedded throughout aren’t just cautionary tales—they’re invitations to reflect, adapt, and lead with intention. Whether you’re a seasoned executive or an emerging leader, Reinventing the Leader challenges you to ask: What needs to change in me before I can change the system?

It’s refreshing hearing a top leader share that they weren’t always the person at the top, and they had their own struggles throughout the journey. Regardless of what type of leading someone does, this is a great book!

This book discusses the importance of being in touch with your organization and understanding the importance of the culture of a company. This was a fascinating story about Gui Loureiro and his executive coach, and how it can be hard to be a leader, but the importance of trying your best.
