One of the biggest joys of Celeste, the rich neighbourhood busybody (and landlady of Marchfield Square) is to quietly spy on her neighbours and tenants with binoculars as she is looking out her window every day, chronicling the comings and goings of the residents. One day murder creeps through the cracks of the building and Celeste is ready to task the ‘cleaner’ and the ‘writer’ in the building to do sleuthing for her to both satisfy her curiosity and solve the murder of one of her tenants.

The way this book was a delightful read! Absolutely adored all the characters that were included in this cozy murder mystery. There are a little million small characters, and seemingly no one has a motive, but turns out there are more going on in the neighbourhood, than what you expect at first.

Audrey and Lewis’ chemistry in conversations are enchanting, as opposites are interacting, although I sometimes felt the happenings were drowned out by conversation and at times I had a hard time keeping up with who is who and did what. I didn’t mind it as much as audiobook, since Nneka Okoye narrates it wonderfully, bringing the book to life vividly.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape media for allowing me to listen to this audiobook for free ✨

ARC provided by NetGalley and Dreamscape Media in exchange for my honest review.

I saw this book in waterstones and was immediately intrigued by it (the one of the girl holding the binoculars) so I was happy to see it available on netgalley as an audiobook.

I really enjoy whodunnits every now and then (pretty often but not too often) and this was such a fun one. The stakes weren’t too high but high enough with 3 dead bodies and a tightknit community of residents of a apartment building, suddenly all suspects of murders 1 and 2. Audrey and Lewis, two of the residents, are tasked by their landlady Celeste to figure out the murders as she doesn’t want her building tainted by scandal and murder.

The one negative is that in their text exchanges, apparently Lewis still has Audrey saved as the building cleaner in his contacts which might be fine when they didn’t work together but became so dumb and misogynistic when they did start their investigations.

10 Marchfield Square has the vibe of a cozy small town British whodunit- reminiscent of the Carlene O'Connor series- but with a big city, modern feel to it. Very much like "Only Murders in the Building"!!

Everyone feels safe at 10 Marchfield Square, as an eclectic landlady has done her best to bring together a solid group of tenants from different walks of life. Little do they know that she has accidentally let an apartment to a small-time criminal.

When the police aren't interested in getting to the bottom of the murder, tenants Audrey and Lewis are hired by the landlady to solve the murder. Both Audrey and Lewis are "stuck" in their lives, and against all odds this mystery proves to be the impetus needed to get them "unstuck."

The main characters are likable and fun. It was easy to root almost everyone you came across.

I kept thinking that I knew who the murderer while I was listening...but I was wrong every time! Nicola Whyte did a great job of tricking me...which I appreciated!

I am absolutely looking forward to Nicola Whyte's next book. I thank NetGalley and Union Square & Co. for an early copy of this novel!

Oh that was so much fun, though I wish we got to see Muffin in a forever home by the end of the book. (Does that count as a spoiler? Sorry. I name my own dogs after food, too.) I would love to live in this place, even with the murders.

The story revolves around the inhabitants of 10 Marchfield Square where a murder has taken place under mysterious circumstances. That the person murdered isn’t really one to cry over isn’t the issue, but the fact that someone has ruined the sanctity of their home has the owner wanting answers. It doesn’t help when things take a turn for the worse and soon one body becomes more. What happens next is the owner, Celeste, banding together a house cleaner and a crime novelist, both residents of the square, in an attempt to find answers.

It’s a fun read with a decent pace. The characters were quirky and interesting, some more than others. The police always tending to be a little slow/terrible at their jobs in these kind of books is a bit expected but not always necessary. The plot twists enough to keep you guessing but also shaking your head at how some glaringly obvious signs are missed. The ending was a little disappointing as it felt a little convoluted for no reason, and to me, solely to provide some characters with relevant roles in the book.

What started out as it looking to be a Miss Marple-esque mystery did indeed turn into something resembling Only Murders in the Building so that was quite pleasant. 10 Marchfield Square was a fun book to read despite some of the above reservations. It helped scratch that locked-room mystery itch I’d been craving for a while, and while not exactly a suspense, it did keep me engaged till the end. Definitely recommended and I look forward to any more books in this series.

I totally loved this mystery and the community the author created at 10 Marchfield Square! I binge-listened to this audiobook in a single day, unable to stop listening because it was so compelling. The characters were many (sometimes hard to remember them all) and interesting, and I liked all the red herrings tossed in. The MCs, Audrey and Lewis, made an awkward pairing, but I loved the character of Celeste most of all.

Regarding the narration, I thought it was pretty good, with the exception of the parts where Lewis was reading bits of his fictional writing. The narrator used the same voice as for the rest of the text, so I got thrown off multiple times wondering if I'd accidentally skipped ahead to a different scene. Otherwise, it was an excellent listen!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the opportunity to listen to this ALC and provide an honest review!
