Arthur and the Knights finally return to modern time, their time, after a long battle against Morgana and her forces of evil, forever changed by their experiences. But the war is not yet over as magic follows them to their time, and the fight begins again, now with old enemies in new forms.
I absolutely adored Joe Corallo's first volume, and so I had to request the second one, and I'm so glad I did. Corallo continues to capture the magic of King Arthur and the Knights of Justice cartoon and imagines an ending the cartoon never got. I enjoyed seeing Guinevere have a larger role and fight alongside her friends to save them from Morgana's evil. It was also refreshing to see the toll their adventures in Medieval times took on the knights, emphasising they are not only human but also teenagers who took on a big responsibility while also fighting to survive. Gallop's subplot was also fascinating to read, as he battled Morgana's influence and his unresolved trauma from their adventure. Corallo was not only respectful in how he wrote this, but also shows Gallop's pain in a raw, complicated, messy, vulnerable way that you can't hate him as a villain, but wish for him to get out of Morgana's clutches and back to his friends and family that love and support him.
Overall, Joe Corallo's Vol. 2 of King Arthur and the Knights of Justice captures the magic and adventure of the first Vol. and the cartoon, sending me back to my childhood watching the series on rewind. This series is a must-read for any fantasy fans, D&D lovers, and those who love an Arthurian retelling.
Thank you, NetGalley and Mad Cave Studios, for sending me an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
