The Forest in the Sky was a bittersweet farewell to a world I’d grown to love. The ending felt epic and emotional, even if a few parts wrapped up a little too quickly. I agree with a previous reviewer - this one was a little harder to get into for some reason. Thank you, NetGalley!

The adventure has come to an end.

Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Children's Publishing Group for the digital ARC.

I will undoubtedly miss Daisy and her companions, but their enchanting adventures will continue to flourish in our school library as I enthusiastically promote the series through engaging book talks. Throughout this journey, I have gained a profound understanding of botany, the essence of friendship, the wonders of magic, and the inner strength that resides within us all. I hold onto the hope that one day, this remarkable series receives the recognition and accolades it truly deserves, like a garden bursting into bloom.

I’ve been eagerly following this series from the very beginning. Reading the last book in a series is always bittersweet, because it means the characters’ journeys end, but it also means we know how the story plays out. I saved reading this one for the perfect moment in my recovery, when I’d be able to read far past bedtime and get completely lost in the pages.

The story follows two groups of characters. First, there’s Daisy, Indigo, and Prof, who head off to the Amazon to find the Greenwild pocket of Amazeria. Then, there’s Max and Acorn, who try to follow them and end up on a separate adventure. The chapters alternate between Daisy and Max’s points of view. I think the chapters from Max’s perspective had a sweet tenderness to them as he discovered things about his family members that he never knew and had the space to grow into his magic and his identity.

I also liked the way that magic is used through the course of the book. Daisy can talk to plants and do some plant magic. Indigo can talk to animals. Max has water magic. These abilities come in handy in sometimes unexpected ways. I liked that all of them had value and limits, so no one ability was outsized.

The ending of the book unfolds so quickly. (Or maybe I just read it quickly because I was so eager??) There were a couple of moments in which the identity of some characters is revealed, and I found myself wishing we’d lingered in that realization a little bit more. It was totally okay as is. I don’t think any of those reveals were shortchanged. Possibly, I just wanted longer to revel in the ending of the book and to spend a little more time in this rich story world.

I think readers who enjoy rich, magical fantasy stories will really enjoy getting lost in this botanical series. The story explores family relationships and found family as well as finding courage and bravery within oneself. It’s got strong positive messages and a powerful, hopeful message.

This installment was much more difficult to get into and stay engaged with. I flew through the first two, but trudged through this one. It didn't have the same magic and whimsy as the other two installments--for me, raising the stakes so high made this one a less enjoyable read. I wanted a better balance, rather than just primarily the strong undercurrent of hopelessness and injustice running throughout.

Grateful to see that the world building in this book is back to the standard of the first in the series! Not quite how I was expecting it all to end but enjoyable nonetheless.

A great finale to a really fantastic trilogy! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all three of the books in the series, but this thrilling conclusion definitely wraps things up with a bang. Truly loveable characters, dazzling worldbuilding, and a plot so adventure-filled it’s hard to put down. My only complaint was that it felt like there were some significant plot parallels to another very popular series, but it didn’t take away from my enjoyment of this story. The dual narrative kept the pace feeling fast, and once again Thomson manages to take readers on a great adventure while also handling difficult relationships, loss, and grief with real care. This will be a must-buy series to have for my kids.

This is a great finale to the trilogy! Daisy Thistledown is still trying to save her mother and the other Botanists from the Reaper King. She travels to Amazeria with her friends, where they believe they are imprisoned nearby. Max and Acorn end up on an important side adventure. Fantastic new animals and plants are experienced. Daisy keeps throwing herself into danger. Wonderful adults keep believing in her and her friends. I teared up several times near the ending of this book. Very satisfying!
