This picture book was so much fun. My kids would have loved this when they were little. Some of the noises are up to interpretation so you could easily come up with new sounds. This would also be hilarious as a fun game for my classroom too. Fun pictures and bright colors.
5 stars!

This book is about spending time with your kids and having fun. It's not about learning to read or finding a book for reluctant readers. Basically, each page has a silly picture associated with a sound and you and the child make the sound, laugh, and turn the page. There are no words to read because that's not the point of the book.

I loved this book and kids love coming up with all kinds of sounds for the pictures. I personally ran out of new sounds to make before the book was half over so it's a good thing there were kids around to help me think of new and interesting sounds to make! A wonderful addition to any kids library!

Simple yet sophisticated pictures. A very interactive book that even young kids can "read" on their own, as they page through and make sounds, although some of the pictures won't make sense to the very youngest but will have middle graders roaring in laughter. At 168 pages, this is a book that kids can pour over for a long time.

No words but tons of creativity and fun make this a read to enjoy from beginning to end before flipping back to the beginning to start again.
Outside from the simple directions on how to use the book on the very first pages, there aren't any words in this read. But this is, by no means, a quiet book. Every page invites listeners/readers to create their own noises to fit each scene. Bright and bold illustrations hold clear actions, happenings, and more to show what sound should be made. For example, there's a sheep in a green pasture with its mouth wide open. What sound does that make? Well, that's where the listeners/readers come in.
While the first illustrations portray scenes, where most readers will make about the same noises, as the book progresses, so do the possibilities. For example, one image portrays a paper airplane in flight. Some of the two-page spreads even hold clever connections between the portrayed image on either side. For example, a pig jumping on a trampoline and the pig falling off and landing on the ground. While there are over 160 pages in this book, it goes by quickly and will hold the attention of even reluctant listeners as they make one noise after the other and compare theirs to those from the listeners around them.
Not only is this a fun read thanks to the huge variety of noises and sounds listeners will make...and of course, it gets everyone involved...but it's also illustrates how people can see something a little differently. Listeners will not only giggle and laugh the entire way through but compare noises and consider the differences without even realizing the importance of this task.
It's a lovely addition to classroom settings, group exercises, or even just for a little fun.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read the free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely love interactive children's books. It makes the reading experience much more fun when we can combine reading with creativity and play. This book encourages kids to make ALL of the noise as they turn each page and I think it'll easily be a library favorite to be borrowed. This would make a wonderful storytime book too! Perfect for ages 2 -4 or for anyone who simply likes to make a lot of noise.

BUZZ! BOOM! BANG! When I saw this title, I thought that this would be a great book for my one year old granddaughter. WRONG! Benjamin Gottwald’s book has interesting pictures, but if a child isn’t old enough to talk, this isn’t a good choice. I wasn’t able, myself, to understand what was happening in some of the pictures to know what sound to make. I wish that this book had been divided into several volumes, it would be more manageable and enjoyable than the 168 pages it currently is. I think this book is most appropriate for ages 4+ or older. I believe the older the children, the more fun they will have with this book. I could also see that the larger the group of kids, the more fun they will have!

Normally I am not a fan of wordless picture books (although I can understand their place in the world), but this was so much fun! I automatically started making the sounds for each picture in my head while paging through. Well done! I can see this becoming a favorite for families.

Thank you to NetGalley and NorthSouth Books for an advanced e-copy of this book!
What a fun idea! I can foresee this book bringing a lot of interactive to storytimes at preschools and libraries. At first I was surprised by the length of the book, but then I realized that the overabundance of images allows the reader/teacher to pick and choose which images to include during each reading - allowing for multiple unique experiences.
I particularly enjoyed the images that were intentionally fully spread across both pages. Conversely, for the times when there are disparate images on the two pages, I feel that teachers/librarians may need to use a sheet of paper to cover one of the images in order to keep their young participants engaged with the specific one they are "reading" at that moment.

all I can see are the illustrations - no words - well if there are words. Actually, the more I look at it - the more I suspect there aren't any words. This is fun! I'd skip the passing gas/fart page, though. No need and it would be hard to reel the kids back in during a storytime (for newer staff) from being out of control. Bright, bold illustrations that would be easy to see from a distance. Great to pair with Book with No Pictures and any of the I don't want to read-esque titles.

A very fun interactive book that lets the reader decide what sound they see in the picture. Little kids will love this and have lots of laughs with their adult. The book is longer than I expected , but I like that. You'll have lots of pictures to cover and can choose different ones each time. The illustrations were really playful. However, I did not like the cover - the ant/spider? looks a little too much like poo. I'd definitely buy this book and give as a gift

Buzz! Boom! Bang!: The Book of Sounds is good in concept- but is way too long and the fun drags after a while. It could use a good edit down to focus on just the best of the best. Ok to have some quiet landscapes as well, but not so many were needed. In addition, the artwork was not my favorite style.

Onomatopoeia Overload is sure to be on order as you peruse this gorgeous picture book meant to evoke reading aloud, but in the absence of words. No two readings will ever be the same in this innovative format. Highly recommended for Early Childhood through lower elementary classrooms and homes. A delight.

The perfect picture book for preschoolers!! Preschoolers will enjoy making the sounds and the bright illustrations. A great read aloud for silly time. Super cute!!

Thanks to netgalley and publishers for this ARC!
I liked this more than I thought I would! The illustration style did not appeal to me at all, but once I opened it, it was so much fun. I like that it isn't a story, but it's super interactive and would be fun. It would even just be fun to let kids open to random pages and make the sounds. This will make an excellent addition to classrooms and public libraries.

What a creative book! The chosen visuals inspire a range of sound effects for a child do emulate. There is a nice balance of visuals that evoke fairly obvious sounds and some that are a bit more challenging (like the forest scene). I can imagine this as an amazing lap read--or potentially a Storytime book for school aged kids.

An interesting pictures only book which makes kids use their imaginations to come up with the sounds for the pictures they see.

Yes, please! I need a physical copy — where can I buy one? (Huge thanks to NetGalley for the e-ARC!)
My kids absolutely love interactive books — we’re all about games, pretend play, and silly sound effects. The illustrations are hilarious and so full of energy that you can almost hear the sounds leaping off the page. Before you know it, you’ll be making your own "buzzes," "booms," and "bangs" as you turn each page.
Total win for playful reading time!

Thank you NetGalley and NorthSouth Books for my ARC copy! What a unique and fantastic book! Except for the first two pages, this book is a wordless picture book that asks kids to use their imagination to fill in the sounds shown on each page. Kindergarteners and young children will adore this book.

A great interactive book with lots of fun images. The reader gets to be creative and can have loads of fun with this picture book!
