"Slow Bullets" is an excellent introduction to Alastair Reynolds's writing: great writing, plot, characters and their interactions... It's a great read. That it's a novella will also hopefully attract more potential readers - it's a relatively short introduction, but one that will likely make you seek out Reynolds's other works.

Definitely recommended.

Alastair Reynolds continues to fill me with awe and wonder. The detail he plies his worlds with is staggering and the way he writes is thrilling.

This was another ambitious and complex read that I really enjoyed from the author.

“Slow Bullets” eBook was published in 2015 and was written by Alastair Reynolds (http://www.alastairreynolds.com). Mr. Reynolds has published 15 novels.

I categorize this novel as ‘PG’ because it contains scenes of Violence. The story is set in the far future. The primary character is Scur, a young woman who was conscripted into the military.

Just as the war ended, Scur finds herself in a battle to the death with a vicious enemy. She is severely injured and when she awakens, she finds herself on a prisoner transport ship. She shouldn’t be there, but she is. She finds herself with hundreds of others from both sides. They have been asleep a very long time.

This was an odd, but interesting little science fiction story of only 192 pages. It took less than 3 hours for me to read this novella. It was an interesting plot, though I would have enjoyed another 100 pages or so for it to be flushed out. Cover art is OK. I’m not sure what else they could have used. I give this novel a 3.8 (rounded up to a 4) out of 5.

'Slow Bullets' by Alastair Reynolds was a short read, but I've read way better things by this author.

A huge conflict is raging across worlds and solar systems. Scur is a combatant who gets captured. She finds herself waking up aboard a prison transport ship, but there are also other allies and enemies in long-term sleep aboard this ship. Things have gone wrong and as soldiers from both sides wake up, they have to decide if they will form alliances or fight for survival. The title refers to an injection with a projectile that slowly heads towards the victims heart. Along the way it erases memories.

A huge ship filled with lots and lots of other people, but the book only has a few main characters, and they don't feel very fleshed out. I had a hard time caring for any of the characters. Perhaps it would have worked better as a longer book, but this just kind of felt like a miss all around for me.

I received a review copy of this ebook from Tachyon Publications and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.
