Really enjoyed the book! The characters, plot, setting all connected together perfectly. It was a fast paced thriller that kept you wanting more.

Well-written legal drama with the military and civilian environments clashing as standards and attitudes meet head-on

It was a pleasure to read this book. I am the first to put it on Storygraph. On Storygraph I gave a 3.5, so here I rounded up. I think that, while at times the pacing was off, ultimately the story is good. The plot was well thought out and the legal jargon was interesting and written about in a way that was easy to understand if you don’t know much about it, like me. I think maybe my biggest gripe is that I struggled to like Kari Sharpe at all. She started off too brusque for me and I think her introduction was bombastic in a way that was difficult to digest at first. Once the plot moves forward, she was a lot more likable and I appreciated her integrity. Which makes sense since she is an attorney. But not all attorneys can be trusted. She was just a good one. All in all, a shaky but good debut. I would read from Konkoly again.

Stayed up late to Read this in a night, I really enjoyed this book. I would read more books by this author

Adrift by K. T. Konkoly This book left me disappointed. I did not enjoy the characters and had a hard t8me getting through without skipping. I really don’t like the, in my opinion, retelling of their childhood experiences. Explain once and move on. Thanks to NetGalley for the early read.

I’m drawn to books with justice as a prevailing theme. This debut offering shines because of the author’s legal career, as well as the book’s suspenseful narrative, attention to detail, complex characters and insightful exploration of the legal system. While the pacing may have been off in places, the balance between the plausibility and the suspense was well done. I took this one slowly as it’s not a genre I often read. I knew that this was to be the first of a new series, Kari Sharpe Thrillers, and I wanted to give it the attention it deserved. The first book in a series requires readers to unpack so much and I didn’t want to miss anything. I was rewarded with not only a great opportunity to explore justice, morality and human emotion, but also the space to notice the author’s multifaceted protagonist and the moral dilemma she pondered.
If you are looking for something a little different and well-written in the legal thriller genre, this one needs to be on your list.
I was gifted this copy by Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

Fantastic book. Absolutely loved it. Had to give it 4 stars as it didn't completely grab my attention throughout.
