Love Sick has some truly compelling moments—particularly in its emotional intensity and vivid sensory details. Julian’s dialogue during the third-act breakup is undeniably romantic, and the dual narrators do an excellent job bringing the story to life. As someone familiar with the medical field, I also appreciated (if that’s the right word) the heartbreakingly accurate portrayal of how badly residents are treated—it adds a layer of realism to the story.

That said, the book has some significant drawbacks. The pop culture references often feel dated pulling me out of the story rather than enhancing it. The portrayal of nurses as one-dimensional "bitches" desperate for doctors’ attention is a tired, sexist trope that undermines the story’s potential depth. Julian, despite his charm, is frustratingly misogynistic—his enabling of the "boys’ club" mentality contradicts his supposed growth.

Most troubling, however, is the handling of the heroine’s trauma. When she reveals being raped by her ex, Julian’s immediate response—“Did I make you feel like that?"—centers his guilt rather than offering her true support. It’s a disappointing moment in what could have been a more nuanced exploration of healing.

Overall, Love Sick has its strengths—strong narration, emotional highs, and striking realism in places—but its flaws, particularly in its gender dynamics and handling of trauma, keep it from being a standout.

Humorous & Heartfelt

Love Sick followed first-year medical students Sapphire "Grace" Rose and Julian Santani. Grace had trouble trusting others after a bad relationship during med school, and her walls went up even more after overhearing Julian and a few other classmates had spread a rumor about her at a mixer.

This was my first book by Deidra Duncan. I enjoyed this sexy and angsty rom com. If you are a fan of medical dramas, romance and comedy, you will most likely be entertained by Love Sick.

I have mixed feelings on this one. As a female physician and a DO, I felt like the misogyny as well as the prejudice against DOs was waaaaaaaaay overplayed and unrealistic. This was the most unprofessional residency program I have ever heard of…but it’s fiction so I need to let it go lol.

The love story was cute and the main characters were great. I think this book is great for those not in the medical field who enjoy medical dramas/romances.

The audiobook narrator was excellent!

Cute closed door love story with a wonderfully typical happy ending. Enjoyed the narrators, especially Meg Sylvan. #HarlequinAudio #NetGalley

This is like greys anatomy in book form. This spicy book brings you along for a fun ride. It is not the most heavy hitting story but a fun fluffy story.

I knew from the very start this story was for me. The way it showed ADHD and social anxiety wasn’t just accurate—it felt like someone finally understood what it’s really like to live with those challenges. It didn’t gloss over the hard parts or turn them into something dramatic just for the sake of it. The medical details weren’t random background; they added real texture and made the whole story hit deeper.

The enemies-to-friends-to-lovers thing? Honestly, it was perfect. None of that forced or cheesy stuff you often see. Watching these two characters shift from being at odds to actually understanding and trusting each other felt natural and believable. That slow change kept me hooked because I wanted to see where they’d end up, not just who they’d end up with.

What made this story stand out to me was how much it spoke beyond just being entertaining. It felt personal—like it was written for people who live with these experiences every day. I couldn’t put it down, and even after finishing, it stuck with me. That kind of connection isn’t something you find in every book, and that’s why this one really matters.

This book was incredible. I enjoyed it a lot. It really highlighted a lot of injustices that women in med face on daily basis. There was also a focus on a traumatic past relationship and it was all very relatable and realistic.

Their connection was great, there was angst and this book contained so much emotional depth. I would definitely read more by this author.

The narrators did a great job.

Thank you to NetGalley, Harlequin Audio and Deidra Duncan for giving me an advance listener’s copy of this book.

The premise is good, the setting could be interesting. I appreciate how it shines a light on the damage that can be caused to women’s psyches by the misogynistic words and actions of young men, from porn culture and their own insecurities and desires to impress their peers sometimes outweighs their desire to please and be decent to their girlfriends.

But the plot device of the two main characters’ conflict being merely their stubborn insistence on fooling themselves that they don’t like each other, for reasons that belie the idea that either of them has any depth or self-awareness, is disappointingly flimsy. Nonetheless, some of the inner monologue are cute. 2.5 ⭐️

4/5 ⭐️

this medical romance was full of hospital drama, AMAZING chemistry and so many heartfelt moments. i knew from the first chapter that i'd be obsessed with this book! the narrators Meg Sylvan and Eric Yang were amazing! they were SO into narrating this book and the story was so much better with them reading it.

📖 plot & pace: this story follows OBGYN residents as they make their way through a challenging 4 years. the story highlights the challenges of medical training while also focusing on personal growth. the narrative is easy to follow and there were LOL moments & teary eyed moments for me. i felt the pace was perfect.

👥 characters: grace is a relatable protagonist, under so much pressure from residency and grueling rumors. julian is the perfect book boyfriend & soo charming!! he truly helped grace grow to her full potential. their interactions are filled with witty banter & genuine connection.

🤩 tropes: enemies to lovers, workplace romance, slow burn, forced proximity

the one thing i didn't like was so much modern slang, specifically in the first half of the book. otherwise, this book is a wholesome love story for anyone who likes medical dramas. it really highlights love, ambition and friendship.

I will give this book a 3.5.
In the beginning it felt really icky for Julian to be calling you Grace by her government name and not the name that she wanted to be called. Even though it's her middle name it still doesn't make a break to not call someone what they want to be called and as a trans person I felt a deep-seated hatred with it.
I will say the romance was cute I did like the hate on first sight and the fact that Julian is such a good guy did make me a little bit skeptical of like okay yeah you have four sisters but also you are not a girl but it makes sense for him and his track of the story.
I hated Alicia because she was so rude like how are you going to make your best friend go through all that shit and I own up to it like I get the fear you have because your boyfriend is a person of power where you work but also damn dude, get over yourself.
Overall the characters are very lovable I did get a little confused with how many names there are and I think a lot of that is because I was in a big slump so I listened to it in like three separate goes like part of it one week wait two weeks another part wait two weeks and then the last third. I really like the narrators they were great. Overall this is a good book

I really enjoyed the Dual Narration by Meg Sylvan & Eric Yang. It would have been even better if it was Duet Narration.
This Enemies-to-Friends-to-Lovers story was hard to put down. I really liked the fact that this book was written by a practicing physician. It touched on real-world issues such as gender discrepancies in the workforce, misogyny, and inadequate healthcare for women.
It was really hard to listen to how Grace was treated throughout the book. The rumors, mistreatment, assumptions, slut-shaming, and more. Sadly, that is the reality of many women in the workforce. While hard to listen to, I appreciate the spotlight the author put on this very real issue.
The banter between Julian and Grace was really engaging. I was often fired up right along with them.
My most favorite part about this book was the camraderie amongst the residents; the BrOB-GYN nights, the vent sessions, and other social engagements. It provided a lot of the levity the book needed to balance the heavier parts of the books.
Overall, this hospital romance was very well done.

Got the audiobook of Love Sick. The narrators, yes it has dual narration, and loved both narrators.
This book is unique in that the characters are med school residents which I loved. Also enjoyed the author touching on rumors and how they affect the people around them.
This is a great enemies to lovers romance book!

Net galley review!! I thought this was super cute! I really enjoyed going through the years with the main characters. The relationship was also sweet! This was an enemies to lovers with lots of banter! The tension between the characters was unreal. I loved when they were finally giving in! Overall I would definitely recommend!

I received an audio version of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I thought that these narrators did a very good job- especially considering how many different characters there were in many of the scenes. I really enjoy dual narration, especially if both performers are strong. I thought that this was a good romance with MCs who have real problems and issues that contribute to the plot and impact their relationships; it reminds me of Abby Jimenez. It’s also easy to understand why their initial interaction would lead to friction and would take time to resolve. This book also made me laugh. The banter between Grace and Julian was fantastic and caused me to laugh out loud several times. I’m impressed that this was a debut novel.

You guys, this book was such a delight! It instantly took me back to the early days of watching Grey’s Anatomy in the rec room with all my sorority sisters. I’m a sucker for medical dramas—especially when there’s romance involved—and this one hit the mark perfectly.

The banter and snark are top-notch, and since the characters are OB-GYN residents, the humor sprinkled throughout had me laughing so many times. I really enjoyed the enemies/rivals-to-study-buddies-to-more dynamic between Grace and Julian. Grace has worked hard to earn her spot in this competitive residency program, but she’s immediately hit with a damaging rumor that she slept her way in—which couldn’t be further from the truth. From day one, she has to prove herself, and the book does a great job of showcasing the misogyny women still face in the workplace.

Despite their rocky start, Julian becomes Grace’s quiet but fierce protector, standing up for her more than once. Their chemistry builds naturally as they grow closer through studying, and when things eventually turn romantic, it feels well-earned and satisfying. I just loved them together.

Outside of the romance, I also loved the sense of community among the residents. The story really gives you a feel for the pressures and pace of residency life. There’s even a glossary at the beginning, which I appreciated—it helped explain some of the medical slang and roles you encounter throughout the book. If you long for the early days of Grey’s Anatomy, you’re going to love this book!

Their bedside manner needs work, but when two first-year OB-GYN residents—one battling a toxic rumor, the other trying to prove he belongs—are forced into close quarters, their rivalry gives way to chemistry neither of them can ignore.

When I saw the description for Love Sick was 'Grey's Anatomy meets The Hating Game', I KNEW I had to pick this book up ASAP! Enemies to Lovers is one of my favorite tropes, and this book definitely had that. I did love the book, but I found that the pacing was a little weird and off-putting. There were several times that the scene would end before a payoff and the next moment it was jumping a few months in advance. I don't mind a little fade to black (not even for spicy things!), but some scenes left me feeling unsatisfied and unfinished. It also felt like at points the author was simply trying to preach on the inequities in the field of medicne, rather than deliver a satisfactory love story. That being said, I did love the slow burn between Grace and Julian. The 'Saphire' bit was a little awkward and stilted, especially as it dragged on, but there were definitely a lot of cute moments. I enjoyed the experience of reading the book overall.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest and fair review.

This book! Brought back so many memories of residency. A mix of Greys Anatomy and Scrubs in the best way. Throw on your scrubs and journey into the world of medical training and mischief. Enemies to lovers, he falls first, they help each other with training… and the secondary characters are fantastic.

Grays anatomy vibes

Dual Narration - Meg Sylvan & Eric Yang
Really good narration. Only thing is if it had been Duet would have made it that much better.

I really liked the greys anatomy vibes in this book. The strong friendships the characters build. The drama was interesting and kept me enthralled throughout the book.
Fun listen with witty banter. The spice was mild maybe a 1 out of 5 on the spice scale. I would still recommend this book to a friend.

Grace starts her OB/GYN residency looking for a fresh start only to learn that before she’s even stepped foot in the door a rumor of her sleeping her way into the program has spread like wildfire. After Julian, one of the four other OB/GYN interns, walks away mid conversation once he learns her identity, Grace snaps. Despite genuinely apologizing, she rips him a new one - almost in some semblance of coping to her new reality.

As Grace & Julian try to survive the pressures of residency they repeatedly bump heads, slinging barbs back & forth at one another. Over time, insults turn to banter & flirting, Grace needs to decide if she’s open to love again.

It was a surprise to me how much I enjoyed this! The enemies to lovers was incredible with so much playful banter. It’s a SLOW burn, with the romance itself building over a year & a half before we got somewhere, but this felt realistic & somehow not overly drawn out at the same time given our MCs are trying to survive residency. The 3rd act breakup broke me yet made sense at the same time.

I loved the medical aspects here. Did you know the author is a board certified OB/GYN herself?? As a healthcare worker, I can attest to (while not fully understanding) the struggle new doctors face, as well as how rapidly rumors & gossip goes through the hospital. This hospital in particular is a sexual harassment lawsuit waiting to happen, though 🤯 Be aware of your tender hearts if that is a trigger for you as it is a heavy (well done) topic throughout the book.

I listened on audio & I recommend you do the same. It’s narrated by Meg Sylvan & Eric Yang & I thoroughly enjoyed both of their performances!

This is very Grey's Anatomy. The whole story feels like it could come from episodes of the show. The characters and all that happens is exactly what happens on the show. The author should more stories like this.
