This starts off strong, with a fast pace and premise that immediately hooked me. But as the story unfolded, I found myself wanting more insight from the addicts and other key voices that couldβve added emotional depth.
There were plot elements in the background - the reality show, addiction struggles, and a particularly tangled relationship - that actually felt more compelling than the main storyline.
Thereβs a sharp turn in direction, and not gonna lie, some of the character dynamics didnβt feel totally believable to me. Maybe another POV couldβve helped, but as it was, things just felt a bit too far-fetched.
I did appreciate that the ending wasnβt tied up neatly - it leaned into sadness, and then it got really sad. Overall, though, this isnβt one of my favorites from the author.
β οΈ For Lucinda Berry newbies: if youβre sensitive to TWs, itβs worth noting that this book (like all her books) contains very sad, difficult and potentially triggering content.

If you like dark psychological dramas, this one might be worth a try. It didnβt fully land for me, but the premise is strong and some storylines are really compelling. Just be mindful - itβs a heavy, emotional read.

Thank you to NetGalley, Brilliance Publishing and Lucinda Berry for this advanced copy. The following will be my honest review.
I enjoyed the pacing, assembly of characters and satisfying ending. While the twists for me stopped midway through and the main character at times ticked me off I still enjoyed the book from start to finish.

Laurel is a counselor who agrees to star in a reality tv show that follows child tv stars trying to overcome their own addictions. When one of the patients is murdered, mayhem ensues. Who is responsible and how could it happen while the cameras were running? I always enjoy reading this author's work. As usual, this was a dark and somewhat gory read and I was all in for it! I did have my own predictions on who was to blame and I was partly right but the ending still left me with my mouth open in shock. I read this ebook while listening to the audio, which had fantastic narration.

One In Four is a fast paced thriller that definitely packs a punch. The storyline was definitely intriguing, it was complex, layered and tackled a lot of everyday difficult topics. Check your triggers. It moves very fast, maybe a little too fast where I would've liked to have more details. The blurb is also very misleading as the book's plot does not truly focus on the aspects mentioned. Also, halfway throughout the book the plot changes entirely and the original one just disappears. It felt like an entirely different book. There were many twists, turns that kept me hooked and glued to the pages.
I just needed a little more in regards to the characters, I needed more substance from them, I wanted to know them more. I felt like they were incomplete which made it hard to be fully invested in their outcome. I would've liked the ending to not have been so abrupt. I would've liked more depth regarding that.
Overall, this was an okay read for me. It was very misleading due to the blurb and a lot darker with heavy themes. It also left me quite unsatisfied at the end.
