Dare I say the Tracy Crosswhite series might be waning in interest for me? *bites nails*
This installment and the book before it were just...okay. Since Tracy has moved departments and there is no longer the simmering rage aimed at her from Nolasco, the stories lose their oomph. While there is some danger, action and adventure, I was kind of bored. The technical aspects of shooting and firearms didn't add much to my enjoyment and contributed to the slower pace that made parts of the book drag.
As well some of the story line (that ending conversation with Dan about a 'new job') either leads to another vein for Tracy or a signal that the end is nigh.
What Dugoni does well is character work. The introduction of Lydia, a character with autism who is thoughtfully portrayed, brings a fresh perspective. The book also creates connections back to the very beginning of the series by revisiting the trauma of Tracy's sister's murder, which adds emotional depth. The western elements, including the showdown concept and spaghetti western references weren't enough to recapture the tension of the earlier books in the series. For longtime readers this might signal that the series is running out of steam, despite Dugoni's solid writing.
Or... it could just be a book that didn't work for me. I know I'm a reader that is still hopeful that the next Grisham will be as good as The Firm, The Client, The Pelican Brief. I don't have another delusional author obsession in me, LOL.
The great thing is that Dugoni does great standalones, so even if the Crosswhite series is on the fence, he's still a great writer to follow.

I'm a huge Tracy crosswhite fan and this book was no exception. I look forward to seeing the new book in the series every year and usually take a couple.of days to read it because I lpve these characters so much I never want to say goodbye to them. Once again the writing was amazing. I connected to Tracy in all the ways I always do and I also love how much depth there is to her and her past it adds so much authenticity to her character and I loved the new characters we had in this book. The suspense was heavy in this book and in more then one moment I was on the edge of mt m seat wondering what was going to happen. I'm a big fan of Robert dugoni as a writer and find his series on Tracy Crosswhite to be pretty close to perfection for me as a mystery and detective novel lover. I highly recommend. I am also already eagerly waiting for the next installment in Tracy's saga.

2.5 stars on this one. I don't know why friends, but I had a hard time with this book.
I think for me, the first half of the book was so slow. I had a really hard time with the pace of the plot. So although it was well structured, I just could not keep myself engaged.
I also had a hard time connecting with Tracy - she was haunted by her sister's death, she had a 3 year old, and a shooter.
I just couldn't get over how so much of the book was about shooting. I wanted a little more to the plot.
Characters were decently developed. I did have issues with Tracy's behaviors - not enough explanation for the poor decisions, so I struggled.
It may just be this book in the series, but I just kept losing interest when reading.
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to review this ARC!

First I want to thank NetGalley for allowing me to receive an Arc Audible copy.
The narrator was great I will say it did have a slow start. It didn’t really draw me in until about 35% into the book. But boy once it really took off it was great. I will say Lydia is my favorite character in this book and before I received this copy I didn’t know it was booked 11 from the series and this book just made me TBR the 10 prior to this I definitely feel invested now.
