This was not exactly what I was expecting but I loved it! Someone really is out to get Lulu, even if she doesn’t remember a large chunk of her life or love who she was before a car accident. Catherine was a kick butt, business savvy, dishonest woman who cared about money. Lulu is the complete opposite in every way.
This book really made me feel like seeing inside someone’s brain or mind who has had some traumatic accidents, ADHD or autism. Lulu is absolutely brilliant, but after a major accident, she’s opted to live a simple life helping elderly people with their normal tasks, until she discovers a poisoned snapple.
With the help of her lawyer and some fun characters, she sets out to find out who is trying to kill, why and what she can do before they are successful. There were so many characters that I wasn’t sure who to trust and I absolutely loved how the story ended. I can’t wait for the next book to see what happens to Lulu.

Have you ever wondered if a car accident could actually lead to something positive in your life? LuLu, a wonderfully unique character, embodies this idea. Her journey as a neurodivergent individual stemming from a brain injury adds depth to her charm. Transforming through her experiences, LuLu emerges not just as a survivor, but as a better version of herself.
Embracing her quirks, she radiates confidence and finds peace in both her strengths and limitations. While she's self-aware enough to recognize her oddities, there are moments when the world feels overwhelming, blurring her perception.
Beyond her engaging personality, LuLu also holds onto her faith, peppered with some quirky beliefs that make her even more relatable. The balance in her character is beautifully crafted, making it hard not to root for her. The mystery woven through her story is skillfully done, keeping readers on the edge of their seats, completely absorbed in her evolving world.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and read it with pleasure. I was under no obligation to leave a positive review. Thank you, Shadow Mountain Publishing and NetGalley.

The first of a new cozy mystery series from Josi S. Kilpack. I know her from her previous Culinary Mystery series and from her clean historical romances. Lulu Dupree was a business woman and five years ago she was in a serious car accident. She suffered some brain trauma to the point she didn’t want to relearn the skills of her old life. She has moved to Sedona, Arizona, embracing the natural beauty of the area and the laid back atmosphere.
When an attempt is made on her life she tries to remember her past to see if there is a connection. When more attempts are made the need to remember is ramped up. Lulu also realizes people around her have their own agenda and it is hard to know who she can trust. She does possess a unique gift that helps. If she is talking to someone in person she can tell if they are telling the truth or lying.
I enjoyed the mystery and was rooting for Lulu. She isn’t a perfect character and is still growing from who she used to be. It looks like it could be a fun cozy mystery series. I hate to fully commit until they are a couple of books in the series. But Kilpack is an author I trust. And as an added bonus she is local to my state and is published locally as well. I actually used this for my book club book for July. Normally we all read the same book, but this time we were asked to read the first book in a mystery series. Because I had this on my TBR pile it was an easy selection and I was happy to tell my club about the book and character.

It took a little bit to get into the story, the inner dialogue took a little getting used to. But then I was hooked. This a an unconventional whodunnit with an increasing element of suspense and a twist or two as it goes along
If you like a cozy mystery with quirky characters you will love this book. It reminds me a little of “Juniper Bean Commits Murder” by Gracie Ruth Mitchell, it was an enjoyable read.

Someone is After LuLu Dupree by Josi S. Kilpack is unlike most amateur sleuth stories and I loved it. LuLu is neurodivergent and it makes her so endearing throughout! She has quirks you can’t help but love (or love to hate) but she is also confident and at peace with her strengths and her limitations. I loved seeing other people respond to her throughout. She’s self-aware enough to know that she is odd but cannot always see it or process it in the moment. I can’t quite call it a comedy, though I did certainly laugh out loud in some places and it’s not necessarily lighthearted as there are some heavy topics, it’s just so well written that is perfectly balanced. I found the mystery to be very well done and kept me engaged. I am looking forward to more stories with LuLu and whatever other adventures she may herself in the middle of.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley, and all opinions expressed are solely my own, freely given.

So I loved Jason Bourne and this was NOT IT. I get that she has amnesia but thein there was all this neurodivergent stuff which just made me go - why?! It didn't add any depth to her and just made it feel like a Three Stooges parody or something. Why add that to the story when you already have the amnesia to deal with. IDK - I guess every book is adding to be cool nowadays. I just didn't care about Lulu/Catherine at all but it was a good premise! Had potential

This was just really poorly written, and I could not (for the life of me) enjoy it. I DNF'd at around 37%.

LuLu is convinced someone is trying to kill her.
LuLu was known as Catherine before her brain injury, which has left her with memory lapses, but she has completely transformed who she is. LuLu is a quirky character, and it took me a while to honestly say I liked her.
The mystery took a bit before it really sped up, but it had a good resolution. I did enjoy but I came more for the curiosity as I have read many of Ms. Kilpack’s proper romances that I have enjoyed. I’m not sure if I will continue with the series. Recommended if you like cozy mysteries.
My gratitude to Netgalley and Shadow Mountain. All opinions expressed are honest and mine.

When Lulu Dupree tries to get police involved in what she believes is someone trying to kill her, they aren't really interested and don't take her seriously. She hires a private investigator to help and the plot quickly escalates, leaving her trying to figure out why someone is after her. As she is still recovering from a traumatic brain injury her thought processes may be different but Lulu is intelligent and feisty and determined to save herself. I loved this book!! For readers who loved Killers of a Certain Age or The Thursday Murder Club.

Josi S. Kilpack has done it again! This was a delightful read with plenty of suspenseful twists and turns. The plot was well-paced and the characters were fantastic. This is definitely one I'll read again! Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the advanced copy of the book.

I am not typically a mystery reader but this book kept me very engaged! Lulu Dupree had a terrible accident that left her with gaps in her memory. Looking back at her life she didn’t like the person she had become and chose to turn things around, not caring to remember what had slipped away. When her life is threatened five years later she has to remember what is missing in order to figure out who would want her dead. I liked the creative plot of this book and thought it was really cool how she has a gift where she can tell if people are lying to her. I felt this added detail made solving the mystery a lot more interesting. I did find the character’s personalities including the main character to be a little hard to tolerate at times. There were also a lot of extra details from the main character’s internal monologue that felt distracting and took away from the story.

Let me start by saying I hope this is not a one off. Lulu Dupree is such a refreshing character. I can see her in a series of books solving mysteries. Lulu is in recovery from a serious car accident that left her with a traumatic brain injury. She’s had to relearn most everything in her life and recognize that she is no longer the person she once was. Changing her name from Catherine to Lulu, She moves to Arizona embracing her new life. However, for the last week, someone has been trying to kill Lulu and she has to figure out who and why.

This gripping narrative follows LuLu, a resilient woman who, after a life-altering car accident, chooses to rebuild her existence in the stunning landscapes of Sedona, Arizona. The author masterfully captures her journey of self-discovery, weaving in elements of suspense and mystery that keep readers on the edge of their seats.
LuLu's determination to confront her traumatic past, while navigating the challenges of her neurodivergent mind, adds depth to her character. The unexpected twists, including near-fatal attempts on her life, create a compelling urgency that pulls you into her world. Each chapter unfolds new layers of intrigue as LuLu works alongside her reluctant attorney to unravel the truth behind the threats against her.
The vivid descriptions of her new life—filled with crochet, night hikes, and a commitment to eco-friendly living—contrast beautifully with the dark shadows of her past. This juxtaposition enriches the narrative, making it both relatable and thrilling.
If you're looking for a story that combines mystery, personal growth, and a strong female lead, this book is a must-read. LuLu’s journey to reclaim her life is not only inspiring but also a powerful reminder of resilience in the face of adversity. Highly recommended!

'Someone Is After LuLu Dupree' is such a unique and intriguing book that has impressed on my mind long after I finished reading it. The premise seems so quirky to begin with yet evolves in to a deadly serious mystery with incredible depths as to the workings of the human mind, and eventually most importantly the heart. Actually, my words defy an adequate description of how wonderful this book is. Just get it and enjoy!

This book was different it has an unusual plot. Catherine Dupree was in an accident and now calls herself Lulu. The accident affected her brain. Shes a different person than she was before in a good way. Lulu is in trouble someone is trying to kill her, and she has no idea why. Sometimes, she just has to believe that there is good in the middle of the craziness. This story is a little crazy and quirky. Lulu has a way of turning things around and looks at things a little differently because that's how her brain works. Overall, I enjoyed the story.

I wasn’t prepared to like this one as much as I did. I’m not usually a cozy mystery reader. It was a tiny bit slow at the beginning but it quickly picked up and then I was hooked!it was such a different /unusual plot. I was kept guessing the whole time- every time I thought I had things figured out it would throw me for a loop. I loved the characters too. The ending was awesome- the author wrapped everything up nicely. It was a really great book- can’t wait for more from this author!

I really enjoyed this book! Lulu is such a unique character and I really enjoyed how things got pieced together. It was well-paced and an intriguing mystery. I also really liked the ending and am hoping this will be a series!

A different twist on a mystery
This book presents a mystery with some very different twists. LuLu was Catherine before a severe accident left her with brain trauma, weeks of missing memories, inability to continue in her occupation, and a change of perspective on what she wants. The world of finance no longer holds the attraction it did. Now she prefers peace, quiet and calm. But when she realizes someone wishes her permanently gone, everything in her new, quiet life changes. Now she’s trying to figure out who is after her and why. But so many of the people she engages to help her seem to have a different agenda and she is left wondering who, if anyone, she can trust. A wonderful story with mystery, suspense, and discovery. Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the copy. This is my review and all thoughts are my own.
