Ugh… the title says it all for the probability of me finishing this book. (Sorry, I couldn’t resist the pun)
My personal problem with the book are the characters; all of them! They deserve each other and the vapid life ahead.

Emily EK Murdoch books are so much fun and I love whenever a new publication pops up in the catalog. Not a Chance in Hell features the daughter of John and Florence Chance, Liliana. I had skipped her parents' story because I hate second chance romances. I ended up buying it while reading this one and it became my favorite book in the series so far. I should have trusted the process and read it at my first opportunity. Unfortunately, Lil was nothing like her demure mother. She was a total ice queen with a nasty attitude. She was a major Angelica Pickles who had me scratching my head how Arthur fell in love with her. I mean she refused his proposal several times. How did he manage to keep pursuing her?
The main redeeming part of this story was the hero, Arthur. He was so delightfully charming that he helped smooth over all Lil's rough edges. He truly made this book bearable. Liliana was a total brat with a sourpuss temperament. Arthur was a darling love interest who made me want to continue reading. Some chapters dragged on and it could have used some paring down, but I managed to get through. She's certainly the type of lady whose friends are linked to her husband's charm rather than her own.
Not a Chance in Hell had a rough start, but we eventually got there in the end all thanks to Arthur. We saw the personalities of the future Chance romances and I feel a lot better knowing they're not quite as tempestuous as our last heroine. I'm glad I read A Second Chance for more context to better understand Liliana's background, although it doesn't excuse her behavior because her parents were angels. If it weren't for Arthur, there's Not a Chance in Hell Liliana would ever get married.

Perfection mixed with absolute chaos equals true love, or does it?
Lilianna & Arthur
She’s the ice queen perfect daughter of a marquess, proud member of the Chance family, likes order and routine, and is unwilling to settle for anything less than true love and perfect character and breeding.
He’s the dashing second son, the forgotten spare who unexpectedly became the earl, the very lonely rogue with hidden depths who suddenly realises he must procreate or his centuries old family tree will die.
She literally falls into his arms, and he instantly knows she’s the one.
Of course she sends him packing straight away, but he won’t take no for an answer – and so he pulls out all the stops to wear her down.
A firecracker romance! Expert level courting – naughty and playful but always respectful – and a reluctant but intrigued diamond make for an explosive combination! This was a witty and steamy story with a beautiful softer side.
He’s arrogant, clever and creative, but also endearingly broken. She’s a bit full of her own consequence, and in dire need of someone truly challenging her. Their facades crack slowly but steadily; discovering their more vulnerable side added depth and was absolutely captivating.
But... Having read her parents’ story – A Second Chance – something felt off. I don’t understand her mother’s constant demands for perfection when she herself suffered an exacting mother. Neither do I understand her father’s lack of concern when he himself had been a rake extraordinaire, and has no objection to a known rogue courting his daughter.
That said, this next generation of Chances is colourful and most entertaining, and this was still an engaging, fast-paced, fun-packed, delicious read. I easily lost myself in this couple’s shenanigans, and I had a really hard time putting their book down.

Lilianna and Arthur
I absolutely loved this storyline! It has to be my favourite of the series so far!
I loved the banter, the no-nonsense and a little spoiled persona of Lilianna and the over the top personality of Arthur.
Arthur was used to getting his own way with woman but in Lil, he had met his match but he was determined to marry her and marry her he would but along the way he had to find himself and accept who and what he was to capture his future and get his HEA.
Full of witty moments, the chemistry is felt throughout each page. A perfect match with lots of wonderful Chance characters making an appearance in this cat and mouse chase with some steamy moments along the way!
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

A wonderful romance and story, a real page turner of entertainment, joy and steaminess. An instant proposal that turns to so much more. Lilianna and Arthur are quite perfect for each other but it's a battle of wits and flowers that finally leads to their happily ever after.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Dragonblade Publishing for a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
This was enjoyable, but I found the hero’s behaviour a little problematic.

Oh, I so love the Chance family. This is one wonderfully, silly romp with an adorable meet-cute, an instant marriage proposal and all the shenanigans that go with it. I kind of felt sorry for Lilliana feeling the necessity to be perfect. (Parents really need to be aware what their words can do-though these were unintentional) I hurt for Arthur , not really feeling loved in life. Olive was an absolute hoot and I loved her down to earth manner. Frank will be a spit-fire when her story comes up. The banter between these two were hilarious and their chemistry so touching. The author does a wonderful job of writing the emotions of characters so well it was easy to laugh , cry and sigh in each situation. This was so good, I read it in one sitting, it was so hard to put down!
I received this story for free and these are my own views.

I do love this series and when I started this book I wasn’t sure I people this story tbh . But I ended up really enjoying these two characters and their romance ; minus the third act breakup, which I really dislike

Every book in this series, I swear... falls at the exact moment I need to snap out of a reading slump and leaves me so happy..
.
When I read the blurb, I thought it was okay. Not necessarily enemies, but Emily EK Murdoch writes characters I really enjoy in situations I didn't see coming. And when I started reading, I couldn't help but be surprised and smiling.
.
Because there are banter, there is wit, there are prejudices, there are misconceptions, missteps, and more characters in this very particular family that intrigued me.
.
No story is the same, nor do they have the same pace or the same situation... I never know what to expect, and for me, that's something only the best books have.
.
Lady Liliana is the oldest daughter, the one that have to make the perfect match to make a good path for her siblings only... that's not what She wants and can't find anybody who really deserves the honor of becoming part of her family
.
And least of all the new Earl of Tearsnby, who has the worst reputation in all of London and is so brazen as to pretend she'll fall at his feet just because he smile at her.
They're both proud, and every encounter they have is deliciously perfect. Nothing better than when a character lose their foot or says something, and the person who shouldn't be listening is listening.
.
This book was great, and I devoured it in a day. I want to read the whole series, and I'll be eagerly awaiting the next one

Thanks to Dragon Blade publishing and Emily E.K. Murdoch for giving me a copy of this beautiful book in exchange for my honest and voluntary opinion

It’s a great story and I loved it. The banter between Arthur and Lilianna is absolutely hilarious and is present throughout the entire story. I loved the two main characters that showed that opposites do attract. It’s a story that grabbed my attention at the very beginning and held it. This is definitely a story worth reading.
I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and are voluntarily leaving a review.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Recommend? 100 yeas and a verily, absolutely recommend!
Finished: April 17, 2025
Format: Advanced Digital, thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC
Read this if you like: reformed rake, protective teddy bear MMC, feisty heroines, strong family dynamics, slow burn, enemies to lovers
Triggers: moderate spice level after slow burn
Lady Lilianna Chance has every privilege naturally bestowed upon the eldest daughter of a well-respected family, but the demand for perfection chafes. Arthur Nelson, the new Earl of Taernsby, has always lived life on his own terms, scandal be-damned; but with his inheritance, he needs a new image… and a wife.
Can these two find relief from their personal foibles & release in one another’s arms?
This book was a delight from start to finish! I love a slow-burn romance, especially one that starts with a one-sided hatred to be overcome. Like the best of serial romances, each supporting character has a specialness to them that frankly demands their own books & I can’t wait to deep dive into the rest of the Chance family. Highly recommend this quick read, that could potentially lead to months of living and breathing this world.

An Heir & Spare, a Letter, Perfect, Honesty, Love:
This was an interesting story for me that has two arrogant spoiled characters who are destined to be together by the end of this cat and mouse romance story.
I can't say I liked either Lilianna who thought herself perfect and Arthur desperate to wed with a reputation of a rake.
The story was intriguing, quite emotional, many mistakes and doubts for sure but when those doubts finally get solved and disappear love does finally conquer to make a story for two people finding a love match.

Lilianna is an elder daughter of a Chance and she knows just how perfect she needs to be. Arthur is a rake who doesn't deserve her. When he sees her and proposes right away, Lilianna knows there is not a chance in hell she would marry him. Once he sees Lilianna, Arthur is smitten and tries everything to convince her to marry him. Finally accepting him, she now must decide if she can trust him. I received an ARC from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for my honest review.

This book follows the story of Lady Lilianna Chance and Arthur Nelson, Earl of Taernsby. Arthur is determined to make Lilianna his wife, while she wants nothing to do with him.
I liked this book and Arthur and Lilianna’s story overall! There were a handful of swoon-worthy moments and I enjoyed how hard Arthur worked to get the girl and how he truly opened up. It was a short, fun and sweet read.
A few things didn’t work for me though. First, I think Lilianna was too unlikeable sometimes, as she was constantly looking down on others and mentioned how they were unworthy of her presence. I understand she was meant to be an ice-queen, flawed, and we do see her grow, but I don’t think this particular flaw was addressed or overcome. I also struggled with the dialogue and the pace, especially at the beginning, where their interactions felt a bit repetitive, it was a lot of “what do you want?”, “marry me”, “not a chance in hell”. However, I think it was overall a good book, especially if you are looking for a quick and easy read!
Trigger Warning:
- OW drama

I will never not want to read a romance where the male MC goes to extraordinary lengths to get the girl and NOT A CHANCE IN HELL gives us that and so much more!
Liliana Chance has been raised to be perfect and to strive for perfection in everything she does. Heavy is the head that wears the crown and she is not prepared for everything that is Arthur Nelson, Earl of Taernsby.
Watching these two go at it made for a very entertaining read. I enjoyed watching them fall in love, kicking and scratching the entire way! I’m giving this book the judy.ann.loves.books stamp of approval, TBR and Enjoy!

Arthur was never meant to be the Earl.
He has led the dissipated lifestyle of the spare.
He decides to marry to beget an heir.
Lilianna is a Chance and tries to be perfect through her seasons on he marriage mart.
They meet, they clash and lead a tumultuous romance with defiant arguments and hot kisses.
An engaging addition to the series about the Chance family.
Fun dialogue with ups and downs that keeps your attention.

Not a Chance in Hell is the sixth book in The Chances series. This can be a stand-alone read, but the series is wonderful and worth reading from the beginning.
Lady Lilianna Chance, daughter of the Marquess of Aylesbury, has been raised to believe she must be perfect. In fact, anyone with the last name of Chance has a higher standard to achieve and maintain. Everything about her must meet that level of perfection, especially her choice of a husband, as a result, she has not found a man that meets the mark. When she arrives at an event, she stumbles out of the carriage into the arms of the Earl of Taernsby. Worse yet, he proposes marriage. Horrified, she cannot seem to shake him loose. He turns up wherever she may be. No matter how sharp her tongue, he comes away unscathed.
Arthur Nelson, Earl of Taernsby, is not a man who is easily dissuaded. Once he sets his mind to achieving a goal there is no stopping him. But what starts out as a game quickly turns to something deeper for him. But will he be able to convince Lilianna that he is the perfect man for her.
This may be one of the best books of the series. A haughty, beautiful woman meets her match as we see Arthur pull out all the romantic stops we love to see and read about. The characters are fun and entertaining. The writing hits all the high notes perfectly. Definitely a wonderful romance.

Who doesn't love watching an Ice Queen melt? Not a Chance in Hell was a unique love story that was a lot of fun to read.
Lilliana and Arthur were so entertaining. Their battle of wills was a real treat. Their dynamic was fun and kept me glued to the story. The steamy scenes were well written.
A quick & fun read!
