I do love this series and when I started this book I wasn’t sure I would like this story tbh . But I ended up really enjoying these two characters and their romance ; minus the third act breakup, which I really dislike

I loved this book. We meet Lady Lilianna Chance, the daughter of the Marquess of Aylesbury who has been raised to be perfect in everything she does. She must seek a husband as perfect as that which is expected of her and thus far, no one has come close. When she arrives at an event, she stumbles out of the carriage and straight into the arms of Arthur Nelson, the Earl of Taernsby, who immediately proposes marriage! She is shocked to say the least and attempts to dissuade him with her sharp tongue.
Arthur is dumfounded when Lilianna dismisses him and does not immediately fall for his charm. Unfortunately, for Lilianna, she has met her match in Arthur who is tenacious in his desire to attain his goal of marriage to Lilianna and refuses to run away.
A wonderful romance that I thoroughly enjoyed. I received an ARC from the publishers and NetGalley and submit my honest review voluntarily.

The chance series continues with the next gen working through finding their heas. In this book, the protagonists are thrown into a game of rejection and winning over, multiple times!!!
Arthur asks Lilliana rejects. What ensues is a battle of a lifetime, with witty banters, some sexy scenes and full blown fights. Yes some of the character flaws are hair pulling annoying, but you cannot have perfect protagonists.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book from the beginning of the book to end.. I have always enjoyed Emily's books! I can't wait to see what else she has in store.

This sixth book in The Chance series is a most extraordinary and captivating historical romance. The characters are delightful, each with interesting personalities that kept me very entertained. I really enjoyed the ups and downs of this extremely fun and intense love story. I was very happy with how wonderful everything turned out. I highly recommend reading!

Lady Lilianna Chance’s, whole life is based around being perfect to make her mom and dad proud of her. After numerous references and meeting her whole unorthodox family throughout the book I began to wonder what perfect meant to her family and why it mattered so much to her.
Arthur Nelson, Earl of Taernsby, is a rogue who recently inherited the earldom from his deceased brother so he desperately needs an heir, or the title will disappear forever. He falls for Lilianna but she wants nothing to do with him, so he keeps trying desperately to get her to change her mind.
And so, begins a very fast-paced story where Arthur wants Lilianna and she refuses to even think about his offer of marriage because he is a rogue in the worse way. One doesn’t know whether to laugh or shake them, but their interactions are quite entertaining, and I did enjoy this book.

Not A Chance in Hell is the sixth title in The Chances series, and while I have not read the earlier books, I wasn’t the least bit lost in Lianna’s and Arthur’s romance, for anything I really needed to know was given in either the dialogue or the narrative. This one was easily, for me, read as a standalone with the desire to go back to the beginning of the series to experience more of this captivating world.
While all of the Chance siblings are expected to make perfect matches, perhaps Lilianna feels that pressure to be absolutely “perfect” more than others. She’s searching for a match that will fulfill that need, but has yet to meet a man who comes even close. Enter into the scene, Arthur, a man who recently came into his inheritance, with a title but badly in need of a financially necessary marriage. It’s just their luck that upon arriving at a social event, Lianna stumbles and almost falls descending her carriage steps, and Arthur is there to catch her before she falls… scandalous, indeed. So begins a delightful historical romance with a lady who is tempted but really cannot accept anyone less than perfect for her husband, and a man who might have started this relationship as a game to annoy a lady, but soon begins a serious quest to marry for love.
I had such a good time in Not A Chance in Hell by Emily EK Murdoch. The characters come to life, it’s well-written with wit, banter, and a couple who really do belong together if they’d just get out of their own way to a future happiness. If you love a good Regency Romance with characters who will quickly capture your heart, then you’d love this one.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley, and I sincerely thank the author or publishing house for their trust. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

Not a Chance in Hell, the sixth in this series, struggles to captivate despite a promising setup. The title’s cheesiness hints at tonal issues, but as a standalone, it’s accessible for new readers like me. Arthur, a dissolute spare thrust into the Earl’s role, is inconsistently portrayed—his rakish charm abruptly shifts to moments meant to evoke pity, which feel forced and unearned. His troubling inability to accept rejection further sours his character. Lilianna, a Chance striving for perfection in the marriage mart, contradicts her charitable acts with haughty dialogue like “I deserve better,” undermining her depth. Their attraction, rooted purely in physicality, lacks the emotional resonance needed for a compelling romance. The anticipated chaotic family dynamics, a hallmark of the genre, fall flat with dull banter. While the premise teases rich emotional stakes, the execution falters, leaving untapped potential. I’ll explore another book in the series to gauge the author’s range, but this one disappoints with its shallow connections. Thank you NetGalley for ARC, all opinions are my own.

Not A Chance in Hell is the first book I've read by Emily E K Murdoch but it won't be my last. I was quite entertained by Arthur & Lilianna, and intrigued by the Chance family. I plan to find more of this fun series.
Arthur & Lilianna are captivating characters. Swoon-worthy, yet also realistic with true character foibles. I like characters that have a bit of tarnish, rather than being perfect in every way. Beautiful Lilianna is rather conceited and spoiled, of the belief that most eligible bachelors are beneath her notice. Dashing Arthur is an unapologetic rake who believes he can snap his fingers and the loveliest lady of the ton will come running to be his bride and the mother to his heir. Or, at least these behaviors are the outer masks they wear- Lilianna to hide her fear of not being the perfect daughter, Arthur to hide his loneliness & neglect as the forgotten second son. Through the story they begin to grow and love each other, gradually leaving off the masks with each other. Although Lilianna's behavior could be really trying sometimes. I don't mind the "Ice Princess" character, but I don't like bratty, stuck up behavior. Thankfully it became obvious quickly that acting like that was a coping mechanism rather than her real personality. Arthur could be a pest with his refusal to take no for an answer, but he was so delightfully charming it was hard to be annoyed with him.
The eventual love between Arthur & Lilianna is endearing and I really like Murdoch's writing style. I look forward to reading more of her books.
I was provided with an ARC for my honest opinion.

Emily E K Murdoch was one of the authors I discovered during the pandemic--the Never a Bride series got me through some dark quarantimes. So I was glad to read "Not a Chance in Hell" to get back into her chaotic and romantic Regency historical romances--this one is a battle of wills between two stubborn people, one of whom believes in love at first sight and the other who can't stand him or any other disruption to her routines.
Lady Lilianna Chance is proud, poised, and entirely unwilling to settle for anything less than a flawless match. She’s horrified when she literally stumbles into the arms of Arthur Nelson, the rakish Earl of Taernsby, who has the audacity to propose marriage on the spot. Arthur, for all his charm, is exactly the kind of man she’s been trying to avoid. Arthur, however, is undeterred. What follows is a relentless (and often ridiculous) courtship involving thousands of roses, shameless flirtation, and a small army of secondary characters helping the romance along. Arthur’s confidence borders on arrogance, but there’s an underlying vulnerability that makes him impossible to resist—especially when it becomes clear that his pursuit isn’t just about securing his lineage, but about winning her. I'll be looking for more in the Chance series!
Thank you to NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for the ARC!

This historical romance is part of a series surrounding the Chance family. So they are better read in order, but you can read any one of them independently. This is a lovely family, full of interesting characters. Our heroine has always tried to be the perfect daughter and to live up to the name. Our hero on the other hand, is the last of the males in his line. Most of them known as womanisers. Now he must change his ways to secure his heritage. Can he? Will anyone trust that he has?
An amusing story that teaches us that you should alway keep in mind that your reputation will follow you.
I always enjoy visiting this family in the series. They are great fun.

I have really been enjoying the Chance family and I’m glad we finally got one of the women in the family!
Lilianna was amazing. She didn’t let him get away with anything, demanded honesty and pressed him till he was multiple times. This was my favorite part. Arthur, was okay to me. He was a little pushy and not cause he was love struck which I think I would have liked a little more in the beginning. I do like that she listened after the third act fight cause it did feel like something that could have been easily explained. But honestly his butler… what was he thinking!! Somehow I have to wait for more and I need it.
I wish we had a family tree it’s hard to keep track of who belongs to who and I’m kind of surprised all the family drama is gone as it wasn’t fully resolved in the final brothers book. I wonder when that is coming back.
I’ll be honest, the only thing that erked me was her father’s reaction to seeing them kiss, sir we know what you did.

Arthur Nelson, Earl of Taernsby, is frivolous, carefree and overconfident in his appeal to women. When he encounters Lilianna he is stunned, dumbstruck that she dismisses him immediately instead of falling for his charmes. At first I liked his demeanor and I was looking forward to a storyline of a man trying to win over a woman. But his actions were crass, rude, offensive and insensitive.
He starts by sending her thousands of roses but at the same time reminds the woman he wants to court of the many women he seduced. He didn’t take no for an answer, and keeps forcing his attentions on her, even after Lilianna makes it crystal clear how she feels about him and at one point literally throws him out the door:
“All right, that’s it!” she said firmly, striding forward and ignoring all the vases of roses that she knocked over in her path.
“I have had quite enough of this!” (…)
“I hope this makes my feelings on the matter perfectly clear,” she said sweetly, relishing the way Lord Taernsby straightened up with red cheeks and blazing eyes. “I have no wish to see you again, I don’t care what you think or what you want to say, and you have mortified me for the last time.”
And STILL he continues his pursuit of her?!
“No! No, absolutely not! I will not marry you, my lord!”
“You will not marry me today, to be sure. We would need a few weeks to get everything prepared.”
And he also took liberties like holding her butt, kissing her and plainly ignoring everything she said and making sexually charged comments.
That is not the way to win over a woman’s heart! I understand that Lilianna said that there would be no chance in hell she would ever marry him. I just couldn’t get over how he was supposed to win her heart in the end. I found him incredibly thickheaded, rude and just plain stupid for dismissing her protests. All these sexually charges references were completely disrespectful and off the mark towards a woman who had no feelings for him besides loathing him. He was basically harassing her.
She stood up gracefully and Arthur shot up, picking up a cushion in haste to hold before him. Christ, if he didn’t calm down soon, he was going to have a real problem on his hands. Lady Lilianna raised an eyebrow at the odd way he was holding the cushion. “Well, it has been… I will not say a pleasure—” “I could give you some,” Arthur said in a low voice.
His cousin helping him by offering an opportunity to eavesdrop on a conversation with her didn’t make it better.
So the whole setup of Lilianna being drawn to a man like this lacked support and wasn’t convincing to me. I found Taernsby’s behavior disturbing and offensive and I wanted to actually punch him.
“Let go,” she muttered. “Never,” Taernsby shot back without hesitation. “Not if I can help it.”
I wanted to like this book but I didn’t. I can see where this plotline could be good if it had been handled with respect, thoughtfulness and consideration for Lilianna’s feelings. Unfortunately this ‘hero’ didn’t do that and so I didn’t enjoy the book.
Thank you Dragonblade Publishing, Netgalley and author for providing an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Lilianna is the perfect lady and she knows it! So why would Arthur, simply a new Earl, with a bad reputation think he was worthy enough to even touch her shoes. Arthur, needs a wife. He figures only the best will do and of course no one ever turns him down, so his ego is severely bruised when Lilianna isn't thrilled with his proposal. And so we have the next issue of the Chance family. Each book carries much humor along with scandals as this Ton family doesn't really follow the rules. A completely entertaining story with lots on family members making life more interesting for Lilianna and Arthur. Can be a standalone, but I don't recommend it as you will miss out on all the internal creativity.

Arthur leads with a proposal as he wants a family, but quickly finds out Lilianna is not as easily enamored with him which is shocking to him. Their story is fun and quick paced with lots of communication mishaps, smoldering glances, quick kisses and a happily ever after. This is a very enjoyable story to read!

Another great addition to the series. I wasn’t too sure about the FMC but she grew on me! The pressures from parents and ourselves to be perfect! It was wonderful to read about her accepting her attraction and that she was human.

Lady Lilianna Chance, daughter of the Marquess of Aylesbury, has a high opinion of herself, her looks, her reputation, and her family, and thus she plans to make a stupendous match. Falling into the arms of a reprobate was not the plan. Arthur Nelson, Earl of Taernsby, is not a man to take no for an answer. He’s recently inherited the earldom from his brother and desperately needs an heir or the title will disappear forever, and his goal of redeeming the family name will be ended. So it’s simple. Choose the best, brightest, and most beautiful woman in the ton. Marry her. Have six sons.
The sixth book in the series & another very well written, engrossing romance. I loved both Arthur & Lilianna & thoroughly enjoyed their journey to a HEA, it was well paced, witty & had some steam. It also had that feel good factor. My quibble was her parents seemed to have had personality transplants from the characters portrayed in their story
I voluntarily read and reviewed a special copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own

Ugh… the title says it all for the probability of me finishing this book. (Sorry, I couldn’t resist the pun)
My personal problem with the book are the characters; all of them! They deserve each other and the vapid life ahead.

Emily EK Murdoch books are so much fun and I love whenever a new publication pops up in the catalog. Not a Chance in Hell features the daughter of John and Florence Chance, Liliana. I had skipped her parents' story because I hate second chance romances. I ended up buying it while reading this one and it became my favorite book in the series so far. I should have trusted the process and read it at my first opportunity. Unfortunately, Lil was nothing like her demure mother. She was a total ice queen with a nasty attitude. She was a major Angelica Pickles who had me scratching my head how Arthur fell in love with her. I mean she refused his proposal several times. How did he manage to keep pursuing her?
The main redeeming part of this story was the hero, Arthur. He was so delightfully charming that he helped smooth over all Lil's rough edges. He truly made this book bearable. Liliana was a total brat with a sourpuss temperament. Arthur was a darling love interest who made me want to continue reading. Some chapters dragged on and it could have used some paring down, but I managed to get through. She's certainly the type of lady whose friends are linked to her husband's charm rather than her own.
Not a Chance in Hell had a rough start, but we eventually got there in the end all thanks to Arthur. We saw the personalities of the future Chance romances and I feel a lot better knowing they're not quite as tempestuous as our last heroine. I'm glad I read A Second Chance for more context to better understand Liliana's background, although it doesn't excuse her behavior because her parents were angels. If it weren't for Arthur, there's Not a Chance in Hell Liliana would ever get married.

Perfection mixed with absolute chaos equals true love, or does it?
Lilianna & Arthur
She’s the ice queen perfect daughter of a marquess, proud member of the Chance family, likes order and routine, and is unwilling to settle for anything less than true love and perfect character and breeding.
He’s the dashing second son, the forgotten spare who unexpectedly became the earl, the very lonely rogue with hidden depths who suddenly realises he must procreate or his centuries old family tree will die.
She literally falls into his arms, and he instantly knows she’s the one.
Of course she sends him packing straight away, but he won’t take no for an answer – and so he pulls out all the stops to wear her down.
A firecracker romance! Expert level courting – naughty and playful but always respectful – and a reluctant but intrigued diamond make for an explosive combination! This was a witty and steamy story with a beautiful softer side.
He’s arrogant, clever and creative, but also endearingly broken. She’s a bit full of her own consequence, and in dire need of someone truly challenging her. Their facades crack slowly but steadily; discovering their more vulnerable side added depth and was absolutely captivating.
But... Having read her parents’ story – A Second Chance – something felt off. I don’t understand her mother’s constant demands for perfection when she herself suffered an exacting mother. Neither do I understand her father’s lack of concern when he himself had been a rake extraordinaire, and has no objection to a known rogue courting his daughter.
That said, this next generation of Chances is colourful and most entertaining, and this was still an engaging, fast-paced, fun-packed, delicious read. I easily lost myself in this couple’s shenanigans, and I had a really hard time putting their book down.
