I really enjoyed this. Everyone was looking down at Kobayashi saying that he's lazy and a quitter and he was very misunderstood. He was someone that needed extra help and then he meets Uno and sees the tools that he uses to get through life. Uno is an autistic-coded boy who writes down everything that he's supposed to do so when he gets overwhelmed he can go back to that notebook. While Uno is classified as "special" in the manga it is very clear what he is. Kobayashi doesn't judge him and instead befriends him and learns from him. I look forward to reading more volumes of this friendship an how they grow together.

thank you to the publisher and netgalley for the e-arc!!
five stars, five stars!! i thought this was gonna be a cute manga of highschoolers and space or something (started without reading the synopsis again...) and while it is it's so much more!! i normally don't get that attached to slice of life manga but this was so refeeshing and cozy that i'll probably end up continuing this!!
okay /deep breaths/ i love the neurodivergence rep here. i'm not 100% sure if i am neurodivergent or not and i'm not very knowledgeable so please bear with me. i was always touted as the the 'smart kid' growing up so i don't understand what Kobayashi goes through, but i do understand the notetaking aspect of it and how it can be a tether that makes one feel safe, even if it's just for school or work.
going on a tangent a bit, i used to be the studious kid who took notes in class, so i think that attributed to me doing well up until secondary school. in poly i realised nobody took notes on paper anymore and i wanted to be cool too and take notes on my laptop. and i think that was when my grades started to slip because not much made sense to me when it wasn't on paper and i didn't remember writing it down. it was only when i started working and taking physical notes again that things got better.
i love how Uno and Kobayashi help each other in their own ways and though the way they do that is a bit more mature than the average highschooler, i do live for the way their friendship grows and they are probably the only ones who understand each other's struggles. the allegory of space and floating around in it alone is a harsh reality to accept but a really good metaphor that works especially well in a visual medium like manga.
the addition of Mikawa senpai as a sort of foil to the both of them turned friend is very nice and i look forward to reading more about them and the astronomy club!!

Spacewalking with you taught me that it's okay to be different, to feel vulnerable, and to try my best even if things seems hard and not working out. Kobayashi is a scatterbrain, everyone thinks he's dumb, and he cant blame them either, he often messes up things, at school, at work, everything he tried to do ends up a mess. Though he seems grumpy and dangerous outside, Kobayashi tries his best to make a change for himself, he tries hard to find a meaning for his life, eventhough he feels like giving up a million times.
Uno is energetic, optimistic and has love for everyone, but gets easily overwhelmed and dissociated from reality. This makes him an outcast, people think he's weird and a simpleton. They mock him, try to scam him, and bully him.
When these two comes together, they clash into an uncanny friendship, that shows Uno that it's okay to get out of his safety bubble and explore new things and to connect with other. It shows Kobayashi that it's okay to be different, that it's okay to try hard, that even if it acts seems stupid for others, it's okay to do it if you find it making your life better.
This manga was a reading experience like none other. And now I'm waiting for the second part!! Thanks to the publisher for giving me the arc of this manga!

This was such a sweet and wholesome story about friendship and acceptance through communication. I think this comic does a wonderful job about showing different types of neurodivergence and the different ways in which people need to accommodations to communicate and express themselves in the world.
I really enjoyed this story and I’m lookin forward to reading more of their story in the next volume!
Thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha for an e-arc in exchange for a honest review.

Thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha for the ARC.
I went into this with no expectations. The summary just sounded cute. It ended up being one of the sweetest, most wholesome things I've read so far this year.
This story is about two teenage boys who are both a bit 'different' developing a seemingly unusual friendship. It tackles neurodiversity, discrimination, and ignorance in a fairly mature way. It broke my heart a couple of times, but then it turned around and instantly put it back together. I really love the use of coping mechanisms and tools here and the level of communication that is shown throughout the volume is really lovely. These kids learn from each other and grow and support each other and it's really just so heartwarming.
I think this is a fantastic start to the series and I can't wait for more.

Thank you NetGalley and publisher for providing the eARC copy of this book!
This story is lovely! The book is about a new student (Uno) who's a bit different than what the other students are used to and the student that learns a lot more from him than he would have imagined (Kobayashi.)
I love how the characters stay relatable to the situations in the story and the art is so good. I like the themes that it covers such as discrimination, ignorance, differences between people, and ways to deal with mental health issues. I think I almost cried while reading about Uno (but I'm a sensitive person.)
I'll be waiting to read the following volume!

this was so perfect. the characters are so incredibly charming and dear I couldn't get enough of them. I love uno so much and hope to read more just for him because his relationship with Kobayashi is so heartwarming.
thank you net galley and the publisher for the arc!

i wasn't sure what to expect (other than this being something space-related), so i was pleasantly surprised to find myself loving this a lot.
uno and kobayashi (and the rest) have such a heartwarming friendship, and they mesh well together despite their different personalities. the loner x delinquent trope was built upon to create their endearing and nuanced characterizations. both of them are different flavors of, well, different, but the story showed us how there's nothing wrong with that. i loved how kobayashi realized this, and how his own experiences helped him be understanding and patient with uno. because he gets it!! they get each other so much!! they are both so adorable :(
i loved all of the conversations in this volume. they all actually COMMUNICATED with each other, not just uno and kobayashi. they were so sincere and open to talking things out, it was such a breath of fresh air from the typical misunderstanding trope that'd run for god knows how long. yes to healthy communication!!
the portrayal of neurodivergence was also rather well-done. being a manga, i liked how the illustrations conveyed the different emotions felt when you're just so overwhelmed by everything.
i thought the space metaphor used to explain uno's experience was beautiful. it really did hit a bit, i'm ngl. i also found the scritchiness and scribbliness of the scenes where uno got overwhelmed to be accurate to the feeling. i could tell a lot of care and effort went into this. the art really enhanced my reading experience that i even teared up at some parts, haha. i'm such a sucker for this sort of story.
overall, a great start to the series! i'm looking forward to the next volume :) would totally recommend this to anyone looking for great neurodivergent rep.

This manga is not what I was expecting but it was pleasant. The friendship between the two main characters is sweet and realistic. Each of them are dealing with being a little different, though not specified, one may be autistic and the other somewhat neurodivergent. They learn off of each other to grow in a more social and emotional way, making it such a sweet read.
If you’re looking for a nice story about two awkward kids opening up and making friends, this one is for you!

This was such a heartwarming read, i loved the characters & their depth. Uno and Kobayashi's friendship is so cute and relatable. They understand each other in ways neither of them felt seen before.
Really recommend picking it up if you want a great story about friendship, belonging & astronomy. I can't wait to read volume 2.

A charming story of friendship between two high school boys who seem like they couldn’t be more different, but find ways to grow thanks to each other.
Kobayashi is an apathetic slacker in high school who has trouble holding down a part time job and doesn’t really want to try. A new student, Uno Keisuke, transfers into Kobayashi’s class. He’s a little odd, carrying around a notebook where he writes instructions on how to act in various social situations, but after a few chance encounters, Uno and Kobayashi develop a friendship, helping each other to step out of their comfort zones.
It’s never explicitly stated, but it’s implied that Uno is neurodivergent, and that’s led to him having trouble making friends and used to being alone. But he tries his best to understand social situations and the people around him, and it doesn’t make him any less kind. Kobayashi looks a bit intimidating, and doesn’t want people thinking he’s stupid, but after getting to know Uno, he realizes people won’t understand when he needs help if he doesn’t say anything. Tbh the overall theme seems to be around communication and that people won’t know your intentions unless you tell them, but honestly it was refreshing to see this depicted in this manga, and with the side characters. It’s heartwarming, sweet, a bit of a tearjerker sometimes, funny, and with a fun art style, too. Really enjoyed it!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an eARC in exchange for an honest review!

spacewalking with you follows kobayashi who just can't seem to succeed at anything he does or stick with anything for long - until he meets uno, a cheery but awkward boy who's a little unusual.
this was a really touching and heart-warming story about two neurodivergent boys who find themselves in an unexpected friendship.
it perfectly portrays the invisible struggles and hardships that a lot of people often don’t understand, things many people consider as “normal” without realizing how difficult they can be for others.
i loved kobayashi and uno's friendship and how they start to influence and challenge one another, taking small steps into the world. the reason why it's called spacewalking with you also gets explained and i thought it was so beautiful.
i can't wait to read more of this manga!
~thank you to kodansha comics and netgalley for the arc!
