I absolutely loved this book! I am a sucker for a cozy small-town romance. I loved all the character dynamics and the setting of Hamilton Lakes. I hope we get to visit Hamilton Lakes again. So many scenes had me laughing out loud. It was the perfect cozy read for fall!

Heart Check kept my hockey romance addiction fed!!! This book is fast paced and full of well written, well rounded characters. I really loved getting to see both Harper’s and Dawson’s pov. It made the romance and tension so good!! The small town winter setting has me yearning for December. This book was so good and I can’t wait to read more by Emily Charlotte!

Ok, I LOVED this book. I’m usually not one for sports romance, but this one really made me like it. I really loved the characters and plot line as well. It was really easy to read and get into. but overall this book was definitely a 4/5 stars for me! Can’t wait to read more by her!

I absolutely adore hockey romances and I don’t think I’ve seen many YA hockey romance books hit quite as hard as this one. The way that Charlotte wrote both characters of Dawson and Harper was phenomenal. The storyline was perfection. Playing into the hockey house party sterotype ESPECIALLY had me reeling for more.
This book moves FAST and the dual POV was an excellent way to showcase both Harper’s perspective and learning of hockey with Dawson’s yearning and expertise of the game. I truly enjoyed the way that the plot, characters, and themes intertwined- especially in regards to the community that is built from the ground up and the learning that is involved in both Harper and Dawson’s life.
I would read this again in a heartbeat, and I hope to see more of Emily Charlotte’s writing in the future! Thank you to NetGalley as well as Simon and Schuster Children’s Publishing for access to this in return for a fair review!

I’m currently on a hockey romance kick and this hit everything I needed it to hit. This was a fantastic debut, super sweet and cute, and a true YA with a great rivals plot! Really looking forward to whatever Emily has planned in the future.

Thank you to netgalley, Simon and Schuster Children's Publishing, & Margaret K. McElderry Books for the ARC!!
This was my first time reading anything involving hockey and I did indeed like it!
Also I’ve got to say, the small town winter setting makes it perfect for a Christmas gift or a cozy read by the fire!
For the story itself I really enjoyed the balance of romance and personal growth. Harper and Dawson’s relationship was sweet with lots of tension. They both really had their own story arcs too which was nice.
It was a good read, kind of a lot of tropes but if you don’t mind just enjoying the ride then I highly recommend it!

Thank you NetGalley for an arc of this book!
I regret to say I had to DNF this because of the amount of language it had. And I'm not really comfortable reading a lot of language. The premise of this book was okay the main characters were kind of immature acting but then again it is a ya novel. I don't really have anymore to say on this since I DNF'd it. If you don't mind language you may enjoy this.
1.5 stars ⭐️

I was hooked from the first page and was engaged with the characters during this book. It had that romantic comedy that I was looking for. It uses the concept perfectly and that the characters were everything that I wanted. I was invested in the hockey element and how it was used in this universe. I was glad it was so well written and wanted to read more from Emily Charlotte.

This Book was s9 incredible cute idk how to describe how much tension waS here but was so good the fmc was my fav chapter and the mmc is my new book boyfriend

Thank you to Netgalley and Simon and Schuster Children Publishing for this arc for my honest review.
5 of 5 stars/Dual pov(Dawson and Harper 1st person)
YA sports romance
Luke and Harper could have been friends in another life. They work at the same diner, go to school together, but Harper hates how much hockey players seem to get everything handed to them. And Luke thinks Harper is stuck up.
When the hockey coach is fired for misusing funds. Dawson is worried about being able to impress scouts. Harper becomes public enemy number one when a rumor circulates that she got the coach fired.
Can they put their differences aside or are they forced to work shifts with their own worst enemy?
I loved the dynamic of having to work together even though they don’t get along.

Okay, so I picked this up thinking it’d be another fluffy YA sports romance (it totally is) but it also surprised me with how much heart it had! The banter was amazing, and that tension? Please. If you love enemies-to-lovers with actual stakes and a heroine who doesn’t lose herself in the romance, this one’s for you!

Found this to be an enjoyable, fast paced clean YA romance read.
More of a three star than four star read as did not find the relatively quick forgiveness Harper doled out to her BFF believable. Also, while the blurb hinted as to the nefarious actions of Luke's coach, felt that there could have been more development as to how his selfish actions impacted the team. Other than the team meeting with the principal and elevation of Coach Dan and his change up of strategy found it odd that the school administration seemed to quickly move on.

Thank you to Simon Teen for the eARC.
This book was adorable and exactly what I needed.
You’ve got enemies-to-lovers, hockey, YA, forced proximity. All things that make Stephanie a happy reader.
Heart Check was cute. I loved the banter and the interactions between Harper and Dawson. The enemies vibe between them works so well and it’s so believable that teenagers would immediately jump to the wrong conclusions. They both try so hard to avoid the other but once they finally talk it’s so sweet and adorable.
A little third act breakup but it works. It forces them both to reflect and think and respect the other even more.
My first from this author but hopefully not my last!

I just finished Heart Check and it was honestly so cute. It has that perfect enemies-to-lovers vibe where the banter is sharp but you can feel the chemistry right underneath. I wasn’t sure how much I’d be into a hockey romance, but I ended up loving the setting and how it all played into the story.
Harper was such a fun main character. She’s stubborn, creative, and really focused on her own thing, which made her clash with Luke even more entertaining. And Luke? Total softie once you get past the arrogant hockey-star exterior. Their dynamic was a mix of tension, teasing, and slowly letting their guards down which made the romance feel earned.
It did start off a little slow, but once things kicked in, I couldn’t stop reading. I loved how cozy the small-town setting felt too. It added this nice layer of warmth to the story, even when the characters were butting heads.
If you like sweet, flirty romances with real emotional moments tucked in, this one’s definitely worth picking up. It’s fun, easy to fall into, and left me smiling when I finished.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review an early copy of this book.

This was a feel-good read from start to finish. This is exactly the kind of book that reminds me why I love YA still.
I think this is going to be my last read of the month. And what a way to finish July.
There are so many things I loved in Heart Check. I love the school spirit. I love reading about hockey. (Although everyone knows how much I don’t know about the sport.) I love Dawson and his soft side. And I love how much he loves hockey. Because every time he’s on the rink he just shines. I’m a little envious I don’t have that one thing that takes over my life the way hockey does to Dawson. Or the way it is for Harper and her jewelry business.
Not going to lie, I was a little afraid I might grow to dislike Harper because of her disdain and judgment toward the hockey team. I’m glad I didn’t because this would have been a dnf. I guess it was a good reminder to always look beyond the surface and understand that each of us is going through our own battles and it isn’t always so obvious to others.
I can’t end this review without mentioning Sabrina. I love how supportive she is of everyone. She’s the kind of person who makes you feel welcome and I genuinely adore that trait. I would like some of her genuine kindness and generosity to rub off on me.
This was a solidly written YA rom com. There was some drama although it’s the kind of drama I can get behind. There were so many cute moments! Especially between Dawson and Harper! (I wish we got an epilogue.) Overall, I just really love the way this book made me feel hopeful and grateful and a little like I could do anything, even fly.

Thank you to the publisher for the e-arc! OKAY WAIT- I thought I didn't like sports romance, but this was such a GOOD hockey romance?!?! I am a SUCKER for enemies to lovers and this actually hit the hammer on the head for me! I loved it!!! I love a little YA romance, and the little kissing scenes were too cute. Sometimes that's all a book needs, and this hit perfectly!

Perfectly adorable YA romcom that I absolutely flew through! It was very cinematic and I could picture everything playing out so well. Think High School Musical, but with hockey—and a hockey coach who reminds me a wee bit of Ted Lasso! Pure fun. Enjoyed the romance between the two leads, the moments of tension (the walk-in scene!!) and the fall/winter setting was cozy af. Definitely give this one a read when it publishes in November!
Thank you to the author and NetGalley for the eARC. :)

Rounded up to 3 stars
Cute but very tropey, definitely a bit of a turn-off-your-brain read for me.
I liked the small town vibe and the characters, though both leads could be annoying, especially Harper, (not just in a typical teen way) at times. Pretty predictable plot and I already guessed how the third act "breakup" would occur before it even happened. However, I still kind of had fun reading, so. A nice palate cleanser for me between fantasy reads.

4.5 stars
This story was so cute and had such a cozy Fall/ winter vibe. In many way it reminded me of betting on You" by Lynn Painter, so if you liked that book I’d recommend you to read this one.
Here's my favorite quote :
“ I can already feel the panic in her, can see her about to retreat again. I can’t stand that.”
When I started this book I was scared it was going to be another one of those hockey romance
books where she hates on the team just because she hates how everyone loves them.
I’m happy to say this wasn’t the case.( she had a good reason to not like them)
It was such a fun read. I really enjoyed how the author made them understand each other, not surface level like other books. But truly understand each other's situation. The way the author wrote the MMC as a real character with real emotions, it felt like his pain and stress were real because it's so easy to relate to him. Harper's character was very relatable, I liked how at the end she was able to own up to her own mistakes. I really wish
The character parents were around more
The MMC talking to his dad about the stress he puts on him

Thank you netgalley and Simon and Schuster for the ARC.
All opinions are my own.
* Dual pov
*Hate to love /enemies to lovers
*Fun banter
*High school hockey
Heart check is a fun clean (just kissing) ya hockey romance.
It revolves around main characters Harper and Dawson. I loved how fleshed out their characters were and how they both had an interest and a life outside of falling for each other (jewelry making and starting a business for her and working hard to achieve his NHL dreams for him). Harper is an independent, opinionated FMC and Dawson is hardworking and loyal to his team. I enjoyed the growth of their characters and relationship throughout the story and how they realized how much they both had in common despite being so different. I loved the diner scenes and the detailed hockey scenes as well. My favorites were probably the interlude chapters, so much good banter between these two. This book was well-rounded with good side characters. My only complaint was that the mystery behind the coach's firing felt rushed and had no impact in the last few chapters. I will be recommending this book and reading more from Emily Charlotte in the future.
