Family saga and wartime what more is there to ask for

What an apt title! Ben & Sally Harper’s life is thrown into disarray when Ben is entrusted by his aunt to look into the strange going-ons in business in America. This bring some unsavoury characters to light. That said there are still the usual characters working in Harpers Emporium which makes you feel at home from the off.
My favourite character , her strength rubs off. I won’t mention least favourite.
This has to be the saddest instalment yet, although it made me long for book 10 instantly.
You just know you will enjoy Rosie’s book the instant you pick it up, worthy of ten ⭐️

This is one of my favourite series of book and I think it's number nine. It certainly is a troubled time for Sally and her husband Ben as he seems destined to stay in America for long periods of time while Sally runs Harpers and looks after her children in London.
Ben has inherited shares in his aunt's large department store in New York but he is worried there is a swindle going on which involves his aunt's son,his cousin so Ben decides to investigate.
Sally is supported by Beth of course but there wasn't much about Beth's husband Jack in this book just a few mentions and nothing more.
All the other characters are there and all have a story to tell.
There are some sad parts of this book but happy outcones too.
Loved being back at Harpers once again.

this is part of a series but can be read as a standalone. it explores the relationship between the United States and England before the depression. good characters

I have read all the Harper saga and loved them all they are always pages turner
Such a sad time for Sally, but her friends as always were there with the strong bonds of friendship for her helping her through one of the worst times of her life
This one was a little different, but still a fantastic read,
Very sad in places, and some unfinished story lines, so maybe more to come I hope there's a happy ending.

Another beautifully written drama from Rosie Clarke.
Well written characters and just an enjoyable read.

Another great read from Rosie Clarke. Beautifully written with great story lines with all their twists and turns and great characters which made for a real page turner. It was lovely being back with the family at Harpers. Loved it.

Troubled Times at Harpers by Rosie Clarke explores what England and America were like before the start of the Depression for the Harper family and the families that worked in their department store.
Rosie Clarke composed this story that made me feel like I had a vested interest in each person. I was living the moments, the joys, and the heartaches.
I want there to be more about this family. I am in love with this family and the employees that they call family..

“Troubled Times at Harper” is part nine of a series by Rosie Clarke. When I requested this book, I didn’t know that it was part of a series, which is my fault, not the author’s. Ms. Clarke does a good job of bringing the reader up to speed about who is who and what has happened, but for a while I felt like I was watching the TV program “Mr. Selfridge” which revolves about a store and its employees. This book took me a while to get into - keeping track of the characters took a while. I found the history of the UK in the late 1920s to be well researched. I cannot say that I’ll be continuing the series, but I know I would’ve enjoyed this book more if I’d read a previous book in the series. The writing was good, but it didn't always hold my interest because I was playing catch-up for so much of the book. I think if you've read this series, this book is a great addition.
