Reading in Between the Wines book review #47/125 for 2025:
Rating: 4 🍷🍷🍷🍷
Book: The Bachelorette Party
Author: Camila Sten
RELEASES on June 10, 2025!!
Sipping thoughts: This story pulled me in, and while I was suspicious of the bad guy, I never imagined they would go so nuts. The mystery was so explosive and the reason why the girls disappeared was shocking. I love Sten’s writing style, and I want to read another one of her books soon.
Cheers and thank you to @Netgalley and @MacmillanAudio for an advanced copy of @TheBacheloretteParty.

This was entertaining and I loved the creepy girl’s secluded reunion vibes. Good character development and I thought it wrapped up nicely.

If you like your thrillers with a bit of unease, The Bachelorette Party by Camilla Sten is a must read!
From the first eerie chapter to the final chilling twist, this book grabbed me and didn’t let go. The dual timelines are woven together so well that every page adds a new layer of tension! And even though I found some aspects to be a little predictable, there were still little twists and revelations that I didn’t see coming!
Now I do have to add that this book is a little more on the dark side… showing just how far someone is willing to go with revenge on their mind! It’s definitely an intense read, with just the right amount of creepy! All set against the backdrop of a remote island with a tragic past and way too many secrets.
What really made this one stand out was how real the characters felt. I genuinely cared about them, and with them.
With a bit of slasher vibes, mystery, and emotional depth, this book gave me everything I love in a thriller and then some. If that’s your style I recommend saving the date for this wild, unforgettable bachelorette weekend coming June 9th.
⚠️ Contains some MA language and slightly gory violence

I enjoyed my time in this summer-y thriller. Friend group drama, a yoga retreat, and murder (of course!), there was never a dull moment.
We follow Tessa as her friend group prepares for a supposedly relaxing bachelorette party. Although, Tessa is more interested in the tragedy that happened at their party destination years before. Which brings us the second timeline in the story - the backstory of that tragedy.
I found the plot to be interesting, but it didn't have that "wow" factor. It reads strictly as a popcorn thriller, and has a cinematic quality - as if it was written to be turned into a movie.
The narrator did a good job on the audio - she didn’t make or break the book, which is sometimes all you want in a narrator.
Overall, The Bachelorette Party is a solid option if you are looking for a thriller to read poolside, on your flight to your vacation, or at the beach!

I really wanted to love this one… I thought the cover was beautiful and the premise of the storyline had SO much potential! But unfortunately… this one just didn’t hit for me 😕
The story moved really slow and had a LOT of characters to keep up with—especially with the dual timelines. 😵💫 As an audiobook, it was even harder to follow, and I felt like I missed some of the deeper plotlines because I was just trying to keep the characters straight. 🤷♀️
The twists were there, but honestly… kind of predictable. I kept waiting for that mind-blowing moment, but it never quite landed the way I hoped. I loved the idea of Tessa chasing a mystery from the past while trying to make sense of the present—but the execution just didn’t deliver for me. 😔

I really wanted to love this book! I’m always up for a mystery / thriller read, but it felt like it was missing all my favorite thriller aspects. I was extremely bored throughout the entire book. I listened to the audio, while i followed along in the digital and i felt like i wasn’t invested in the story or the characters because so little was going on.
I was waiting to feel the suspense or the i must turn the page cuz i need to see what is going to happen, but it never happened. When it comes to thriller, i constantly will push through until the end because it may make it all worth it, but unfortunately this one just didn’t work for me.

A dual timeline thriller that dates back to the early 2010s about 4 girls who end up missing and/or dead on a remote island in Sweden.
Fast forward to ten years later, a bachelorette party was arranged at the same island and one of the guests is a true crime podcaster who knew about the 4 girls who died 10 years prior.
During the bachelorette party, they were told to leave their devices and to enjoy and unwind for the few days that they were on the remote island. One of the girls ends up dead and all of the suspense, twists and turns (stressful at times) ensues.
Tropes: Dual timeline, childhood friends
Triggers: Death/Murder
I enjoyed every twist and turn during the second half of the book and had an inkling of who the killer was. I was right with my guess but the ending felt a bit lackluster. I just didn’t understand why they would all willingly go to a secluded island where there were 4 people killed. I would’ve suggested a different location for the bachelorette party!
Thanks to Netgalley and MacMillan Audio for a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

I just finished “The Bachelorette Party” by Camilla Stein and it was a pretty good thriller.
It takes place during 2 time frames on an uninhabited island in Sweden in 2022 and in 2012. Each instance includes either four women and six women characters during each story.
I struggled with this story remembering all the characters names since in total there were around thirteen characters, and many of them had either nicknames or similar sounding names.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to think that hard when I’m reading. lol. It was a decent read, but there are better thrillers out there.
This book earns 3 stars from me and publishes on June 10th. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the complimentary copy of the book in exchange for my unbiased review.

Thank you Netgalley for the advance audiobook and reader copy of The Bachelorette Party by Camilla Sten in exchange for an honest review. I love books by Sten and this one was really good too. I also enjoyed the narrator. There were many levels of intrigue in this book, I totally thought it was going one way and then it took a turn. Sten excels at this, lots of misdirection and well written characters.

From the moment the friends arrive on the island, you can feel the tension in the air crackling. The author masterfully weaves suspense and secrets, all while keeping the reader on their toes. What sets this thriller apart is the perfect balance of friendship dynamics and pure psychological terror. The eerie, isolated setting intensifies the fear, while the clever plot reveals how far someone will go to protect their secrets.

What happens when a bachelorette party decides to have their party at a fancy island resort where four young women disappeared years before.
Of course, lots of things happen.
It was a dark, twisted and intense read with many twists before you get to the end.
I am not a fan of dual time lines most of the time but it fits for this book, since tragedy happened years ago. The stories unwind and are told in a way that keeps the reader interested. This is my first book by this author but I loved the way she told the story with heartbreaking tales of past friendships.
One of the visitors is a true crime podcaster and she decides to look into the disappearance for the four young women who disappeared in 2012 and are presumed drowned. This investigations stirs up problems with the people on the island and then a visitor is found dead.
I loved the narrators and they made it so entertaining I don't think that many of the woman were very likeable but that made it even more interesting to listen to.
Thanks so much to St Martin’s Press for my advanced audio copy and to #NetGalley. This book. publishes on June 10th.

The synopsis of this book sounded great and I expected it to be a lot like Lucy Foley's The Guest List.
However due to the fact that it is about 4 women in the past and 4 different women in the current time period, that made it hard to follow as they go back and forth. Plus the current women are talking about what happened to the women from the past. While I was actually surprised by the ending, the great narrator was what got me to the end otherwise I would have only made it 1/2 way..
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc.

Although I believed I would love this book as what I read likened it to Lucy Foley's The Guest List, I was somewhat disappointed. The story line was confusing as it moves between a trip shared between four women years before and a current trip to the same island in present times with four different women. The difficulty in keeping the characters and details of each trip straight detracted from the story. As this was a murder mystery, I will admit that I was surprised in the end by who the murderer was; however, I was not fond of how the end was wrapped up. It felt forced and too neat. Also, the ending also happened too quickly making it feel like the book came to an abrupt ending. The narrator was skilled and easy to listen to, which made this book better.

What a crazy story I really enjoyed this one. Love a good isolated thriller and this one did deliver. I definitely got the reference to “The Guest List” but I really was hoping for more of the “Scream” reference as well. As eerie as the book became I feel a lot of it happened towards the second part of the story and I think it felt a bit too rushed. I think it had a good amount of surprises although I wasn’t crazy about all of the twists I was very pleased that I couldn’t see them all coming. The characters could’ve been flushed out a bit more but ultimately I had a lot of fun reading this and definitely recommend it.

I really enjoyed this book! Set on a tiny island in the Baltic Sea (had to look up where that was, exactly), I was completely caught up in the mystery of the initial massacre and the present-day bachelorette party events.
I didn’t see the twist coming, but I imagine other thriller readers might. It was a great one, and I wish we knew more about that character.
I also thought the book did a great job of telling the story of how the 2012 women were so committed to their annual trip that they figured out how to make the trip work—despite the constant pressure put on women. Work, home, family, partners, social commitments, finances…it all sits on our shoulders and often it can be hard to prioritize ourselves.
Overall, a great listen! I thought the narrator really gave this a sense of tense seriousness.

This was a super tense and twisty listen! The Bachelorette Party takes a fun weekend away and turns it into something way more chilling. Old secrets, creepy vibes, and a lot of "who can you really trust?" energy. The setting—a remote mountain lodge—adds to the claustrophobic feel, and things unravel fast.
The narrator was great and really brought out the tension between the characters. If you're into locked-room thrillers with messy friendships and slow-burn suspense, definitely give this a listen.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to listen to this book in advance of publication.

I did enjoy these narrators… the storyline was kind of hard to follow at the beginning but once I caught on it was pretty easy and I couldn’t wait to finish in a good way! The ending I didn’t see coming never would have thought it was him/her. Good book, I’d recommend to my friends!

2012: four childhood friends, known as the Nacka Four, gathered on a remote island off the coast of Sweden—a location they kept secret from everyone. They never came back and were presumed to have all drowned after an intoxicated boat trip, but their bodies were never found.
2022: 10 years later, four more childhood friends reunite at the same location, this time for Annalise’s bachelorette party. They have similar rules as the gathering of the Nacka Four, including a strict “no phone” policy. Among them is Tessa, who has a hidden agenda: to investigate the Nacka Four’s disappearance so she can salvage her podcasting career, currently in shambles. The island is now owned by the sister of one of the Nacka Four, and Tessa is determined to uncover the truth. But when one of the bachelorette party guests goes missing and another starts acting suspiciously, Tessa realizes that digging into the past might come with a price.
I really enjoy locked room thrillers and dual timelines. This book was a solid 3-star for me; I liked it, but didn’t love it. I think the ending was a little rushed, yet I found it a little slow in other places and I didn’t really connect or especially like or dislike any of the characters. But it’s a quick, popcorn read - definitely a little more gory than cozy. Some of the plot twists are predictable, but ultimately you’ll want to keep reading to hear how everything plays out!

This one just didn’t land for me. The premise sounded amazing. A mystery, missing women, a remote island, and a true crime podcaster determined to uncover the truth sounded great! But the execution was painfully slow. I kept waiting for the story to pick up or for the tension to build, but it never quite got there. While the concept had potential, the pacing dragged and the characters didn’t fully pull me in. I wanted to be hooked, but instead, I found myself struggling to stay interested.
Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the ALC in exchange for my honest review.

This was a scary locked-room thriller that defined itself by the mystery and history around the island. The people attracted to the island are as much to blame as the island itself…or have I said too much. Why a friend group would willingly put themselves in a situation to re-create horrific trauma that happened years ago is beyond me; but that it what happens. What could be responsible for the evil lurking in or on the island? Thank you for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
