Truth or Die by Jack Lynch

9781941298367

305 Pages
Publisher: Brash Books
Release Date: February 3, 2015

Fiction, Mystery, Suspense, Thriller, Private Detective

This is the sixth book in the Peter Bragg series. Peter runs into Jo, a woman that he would have liked to have a relationship with when he was a bartender in Sausalito. Now Jo is married to a prominent psychiatrist who mainly treats military patients dealing with PTSD. Shortly after their reacquaintance, Jo’s husband is murdered, and she is accused. She hires Peter to find out the truth.

The story has a steady pace, and the characters are developed. It is written in the first-person point of view. The book is somewhat dated since it was written before cell phones and other modern technology, but I thoroughly enjoyed that fact. If you like hard-boiled fiction with a witty private investigator, you will enjoy this book too.

I loved the character of Peter Bragg. This is the first novel I have read in the series and I must go back to the beginning. The story is filled with suspense and tension and is well paced. The backdrop of Carmel was interesting as well
Many thanks to Brash Books and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

TRUTH OR DIE - Jack Lynch

#6 in the Peter Bragg detective series

FAST-MOVING

Plot - 4 stars - Peter runs into an old friend, then the next day she is accused of her husband's murder. She hires him to help prove her innocence, and he gets involved in much more than he bargained for.

Writing - 4 stars - Lynch draws me in right from the beginning and gets me involved in the characters and the story. Peter Bragg follows the clues, develops relationships, interacts with people, and generally keeps things moving forward quickly and logically.

Characters - 4 stars - Peter Bragg is an excellent character. He's likable, friendly, and very competent. Even though I haven't read the earlier books in this series, I had no problem understanding his personality and his motivations. He's a pretty straightforward guy, a straight-shooter, and I liked how he thought of his girlfriend, thinking of her needs and trying to accommodate her.

Title - 4 stars - Appropriately sinister.

Cover - 4 stars - Neutral colors, but with a brightly-colored title that really draws the eye.

Overview - 4 stars - Overall, this is another fascinating episode in the exciting life of Peter Bragg. He's such a likable guy that I enjoy spending time with him. I don't read a lot of detective/crime fiction, but with this series I'm compelled to turn the pages and see what happens.
