I absolutely loved this book! I was so impressed by how wonderfully written it is! Definitely recommend to anyone who loves a great and entertaining read!!

Jeneva Rose blends post-apocalyptic grit with real emotional depth, creating characters who feel raw, vulnerable, and genuinely worth rooting for. I cackled and pictured gross zombies.. I enjoyed this way more than i thought i would! The romance doesn’t just simmer—it matters. I usually get grumpy with romances, but the banter here was so amusing to me! It’s earned, honest, and complicated in a way that makes the whole story feel richer.
It’s a love story with baggage—and honestly, in the ruins of the world, that feels exactly right. Plus there are zombies!

This was not my typical read at all but I loved it! I feel like because it had a combination of an apocalyptic element along with some romance it was perfect. It was just enough romance that it wasn’t cringy and it had that started out as enemies than friends than enemies than lovers so it kept you hooked. Even though Casey hated Blake I was a fan from the start. They definitely had chemistry despite the enemy thing they had going. I love that it went back in time to help us understand why she felt the way she did about him. Otherwise I would have thought she was crazy! He deserved it for sure but we all change after high school so I felt he deserved another chance. Oh and there was the fiancé. I was not a fan from the start and felt something was off with him, but you’ll have to read for yourself to judge. If you get the opportunity you should run and grab this one as soon as you can. It’s amazing!!

First off let me say....WTF!!! Talk about a book that'll make you uncomfortable and intrigued at the same time. The descriptions within the story had me floored. Story was packed with action. Think Hallmark meets the Walking Dead. There was never a dull moment in the book. This isn't my typical style of book but because I'm a huge Jeneva Rose fan I had to check it out and I'm happy I did. The story held up well. It does take you through a mini emotional ride but the ride is well worth it all the way to the end.
Thank you Netgalley and Montlake for the ARC. These are my own thoughts and opinions.

If I’m being so totally honestly, this book isn’t something I would have normally picked up. When I tel you guys that I normally don’t have anything to do with zombies/zombie-related media because it gives me nightmares and triggers outrageous anxiety, I’m not exaggerating. I literally made it through the first five minutes of The Walking Dead before I started to sob/freak myself out (iykyk). Maybe I’m a founding member of Weenie Hut Jrs. Regardless of my visceral reaction to zombies, I made a decision to pick up this book. Why? A slow burn, enemies to lovers where he’s her childhood bully because her dad is a doomsday-prepper. I don’t know about anybody else, but that sounded pretty interesting to me!
Even though I did have a couple of zombie-related dreams, I loved this book. I absolutely, 100% loved it. The pace was perfect and the writing was amazing! It really sucked me right in, as did the characters.
During Casey’s residency in Chicago, her and her fiancé are suddenly overrun by individuals with a mysterious virus, causing them to either lose all their memories or turn into something… undead. Due to some circumstances, she finds herself fighting for her life just to get back to her dad’s compound. Upon arrival, who should she find sleeping in her childhood room?
Blake. The man who made her life HELL.
Unfortunately for her, Blake isn’t the man she remembers from her childhood. He’s hell bent on keeping her safe, which brings up so many unresolved feelings. All she wants is him gone but in her efforts to prove to her father she’s able to fend for herself, it draws them closer together.
The tension, the banter, the forced proximity? All three make an absolutely immaculate romantic cocktail!
Tropes:
Post-Apocalyptic World
Slow Burn
Enemies to Lovers
Forced Proximity
He’s her childhood bully
Black cat x Golden Retriever
Zombies… So many zombies…
Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy of this story in exchange for an honest review. My thoughts and feelings are my own.
Dating After the End of the World is available Sept 30, 2025 and perfect for the spooky season!

Unfortunately this book was a DNF for me. I usually read thrillers and having read Jeneva's other stories (thrillers) I thought this would be up my alley. But, it was a miss. It felt too YA to me and the romance I didn't particularly care for.

I absolutely loved this book. I am not into zombies at all but this book was so unhinged and fun. I was on the edge of my seat. I loved the characters and the storyline. Jeneva is truly a mastermind

Dating After the End of the World was my first introduction to Jeneva Rose’s work, and unfortunately, it didn’t quite live up to the hype I’d seen online. The concept is fun and quirky — a post-apocalyptic romance with light-hearted flair — but the execution left a lot to be desired.
Reading this felt a bit like flipping through a high school creative writing assignment. The writing was surprisingly naïve and underdeveloped, especially from an author with several books under her belt. The characters lacked depth, the dialogue often felt forced, and the emotional beats missed the mark more often than not.
What stood out most was how much the dynamic between the two main love interests felt like a watered-down copy of Fourth Wing. It followed a familiar enemies-to-lovers arc but without the tension or complexity that makes that trope so satisfying when done well. While imitation can sometimes feel like homage, here it just felt unoriginal.
And then there was the long-awaited steamy scene — or rather, the lackluster one we eventually got. After nearly two-thirds of buildup, it landed with a dull thud: awkward, underwhelming, and far from satisfying. If you're going to make readers wait that long, there should at least be some payoff.
That said, there was a bit of fun to be had — the setting had potential, and the book doesn’t take itself too seriously, which makes for a light, breezy read if you’re not looking for much depth. But if you’re expecting strong storytelling, rich world-building, or emotionally resonant romance, this probably won’t deliver.
A generous 3 stars for the entertainment value, but ultimately disappointing.

Jeneva Rose has once again proven her storytelling brilliance in Dating After the End of the World, a delightfully original, witty, and surprisingly heartwarming take on love in the most unexpected circumstances. From the first page, I was hooked—drawn in by the sharp dialogue, the quirky yet endearing characters, and a premise that’s as hilarious as it is thought-provoking.
This book balances humor and humanity perfectly. The post-apocalyptic setting somehow enhances the romance rather than overshadowing it, and Rose manages to find emotional depth in even the most absurd situations. The chemistry between the characters feels authentic, and the journey they take together—both emotionally and physically—is one that’s equal parts hilarious, awkward, and moving.
What I loved most was the book’s ability to be both laugh-out-loud funny and deeply insightful. Rose captures the chaos and vulnerability of modern dating, then cranks it up by setting it after the end of the world—and yet, it all feels relatable. It’s not just a romance or a comedy or a dystopian story; it’s a clever, refreshing mash-up that defies genre in the best way.
I absolutely loved this book and am desperate for a sequel. These characters and their world have stuck with me long after I turned the last page. I’d reread it in a heartbeat—and probably will.
If you’re looking for a clever, heartfelt, and completely unique read, Dating After the End of the World is a must. Jeneva Rose, please give us more!

I received this book as an ARC on NetGalley, thank you Montlake Publishing and Jeneva Rose for the opportunity!
At this point I’m convinced that Jeneva could write about her day to day tasks and magically make it an amazing and fantastic read. This is easily my favorite read of 2025.
The most unique aspect of this book (Dating After the End of the Word) is you get a little bit of everything with it: Zombies, post-apocalypse, humor, enemies to lovers, father daughter dynamics (that span through teens to young adulthood), horror, violence, suspense, spice and one heck of a good story. I think anyone who enjoys any of those individual themes would find themselves throughly enjoying this book as it’s not heavy in any specific theme, it’s a perfect balance in all honestly. You get just enough of every element, which really showcases Jenevas talent as a writer. I bet you’ll find yourself becoming a fan of new themes by the end of it.
Jeneva once again gives us a strong lead character that you can instantly relate to and builds on that through a gripping storyline and equally enjoyable supporting characters, through their relationships with the main character and each other. The banter is GREAT!
I knew 50 pages in that I was going to be upset when I finished this book, because it was that good from the start. I had to give myself restrictions on how much I was allowed to read a day so I could stretch it out as long as possible. I’m a sucker for anything zombie apocalypse and who doesn’t love a good enemies to lovers?! I would absolutely love for this to be a movie one day!
I truly hope to see more books like this from Jeneva in the future.
Also, shoutout to her Dad for asking her to do a zombie story and us getting this absolutely great read from it!

Thank you NetGalley and Montlake for this ARC in exchange for my honest review. Unfortunately, Dating After the End of the World was not for me.
My biggest complaint is the main character, Casey. Casey is extremely immature and delusional throughout the entire book. It was very frustrating as the reader and made me detached from the book. I didn’t particularly care what happened.
I also didn’t love how many characters there were. It was hard to remember who is who. Lastly, I think this book was just trying to do too much at once. The romance didn’t feel nature to me. The apocalypse storyline was quite odd and some parts didn’t really make sense.

What happens when you take a post-apocalyptic thriller, a romance and a comedy, and mix it all up? You get Dating After the End of the World. It is an all new genre in and of itself by Jeneva Rose.
This book is unlike anything I have ever read before. And I ate it up.
There is so much going on between the characters' relationships, family dynamics, and zombielike creatures trying to eat you alive after the world ends. But it all ties together in a very nice way - despite the crazy ending.
I literally laughed out loud, I teared up, and I even screamed for joy and out of irritation. Seriously, this story is an emotional rollercoaster, but I couldn't put it down.
Jeneva's writing is fast-paced and action-packed, keeping you invested, quickly devouring page after page, just to get another taste.
I am thrilled that I got to read this ARC and want to send a huge thank you out to NetGalley, Montlake, and Jeneva Rose.
Every reader needs to preorder this book and read it as soon as it's released.

I loved this one! Not something I would normally gravitate to but since I love all Jeneva Rose books I needed to read this one as well. It was definitely a fun read!

First and foremost, I would like to thank the publisher and Netgalley for allowing me to read a review this ARC. Thank y’all!
If you like a enemies to lovers sprinkled in with humor and gore. This is the book for you.
The story follows Casey Pearson, who, after leaving her doomsday-prepping father behind at eighteen, is forced to return home when a viral outbreak turns people into zombie-like creatures.
Upon her return, she discovers her father has formed a survivalist compound that includes Blake Morrison, her high school nemesis.
As everybody tries navigate the challenges of the new world, Casey and Blake’s relationship evolves from adversarial to something more.
I mean it’s the end of the world, you can still fall in love

Zombie apocalypse and enemies to lovers with some comedy thrown in sign me up!! Jeneva is queen of twists and wtf moments in her writing and this book did it again. The banter throughout had me laughing and loving every minute of it. Casey is a very stubborn and outspoken FMC who has easy for me to love. Blake is just yummy even when he’s a bully 😂😂. I don’t want to give the book away but as always prepare for anything to happen. I laughed, I cried and then the ending I said WTF we need more!!

Wow! Jeneva is out here killing it no matter what genre she is writing!
This book takes you on a emotional roller-coaster that is worth every minute!

Did Jeneva Rose just make apocalyptic romance the next IT genre? I think so!
This book is a phenomenally original and captivating read. From the start I was completely hooked and could not put it down. It was tense, yet funny, but also eerie, and believable. Basically, it was everything you could possibly want in this unique genre.
Jeneva Rose proves she is a master at her craft, regardless of the genre. Pick this one up asap!!!
Thank you to Jeneva for allowing me to beta read this story & to the publisher for the gifted ARC

This book was amazing! The perfect mix of humor, and gore! I couldn’t stop reading! This is by far my favorite book that she’s ever written! I truly hope she writes more like this!!

This was so fun and unique! I loved having romance and an apocalyptic suspense book all in one. This is a great palette cleanser and a read for a fun, silly mood. The zombie outbreak was written really well and the book definitely keeps you drawn in!
