The Sober Shift is a thought-provoking nonfiction work targeted for those individuals that are looking to reevaluate their relationship with alcohol. It can also be a good resource for those that have recently achieved sobriety or those that are contemplating a sober lifestyle. Suzanne Warye chronicles her personal experiences, which began after struggling with motherhood and hangovers. She uses many different modalities when producing this work- her real life experiences, dismantling prevalent myths regarding alcohol use, and humor to provide practical insights into drinking habits and the culture of drinking. Warye encourages readers to examine drinking habits before they escalate into something more dire. This book serves as a supportive resource.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance review copy in exchange for my review.

A great nonfiction book for those who are looking to re-examine their relationship to alcohol, are newly sober, or sober-curious. While the inciting incident that prompted the author to quit drinking seemed a bit ... unexplored ... to me (there was some hand-waving), I really appreciated the stories from her various listeners and comments over the years, as well as the takedown of contemporary drinking/Wine Mommy culture. For those who have spent time in the sober world, this is a great reminder to keep going and live a more uplifted, sober life. For those who haven't quit drinking, are thinking about quitting, or are scared to quit, this is also a great support, with an open, honest, funny, and encouraging voice. A timely and important read!
