I liked this book a lot. The story was interesting from the beginning, it was fast paced and the short chapters that often ended on a cliff hanger made me want to keep reading until the end.

I found that the main character, Imogen was well written, very likable and realistic. I liked the vibe of the book and the setting of the remote countryside house.

I rated the book 4.25 stars as I did partially guess the plot twist, however it didn’t ruin my enjoyment of the book.

Thank you Netgalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

First of all I love books with twists so win there. Second I love shorter chapters so second win. I can get through books faster with shorter chapters and can follow them easier. One downfall was Imogen was not my favorite. I flew through this book fast and it was a nice easy fast read.

3.5⭐️ This was a fast paced thriller which can be great for those looking for a tamer experience with the genre. This would be a wonderful choice for those than like Lifetime movies! That’s exactly what it read as.
It is very predictable as the basic story is one that has been done many times over but it has a bit of comfortable feel because you can figure what happens ahead of time.

The chapters are very short which does propel you to keep reading and before you know it, you have finished the book which is only 272 pages. It’s hard to say more as I don’t want to give any spoilers.

It comes out June 12, 2025 making it a good “beach read” for the thriller set.

I am thankful to have gotten a complimentary eARC from Boldwood Books through NetGalley to read which gave me the opportunity to voluntarily leave a review.

My rating system since GoodReads doesn’t have partial stars

⭐️ Hated it
⭐️⭐️ Had a lot of trouble, prose issues, really not my cup of tea (potentially DNF’d or thought about it)
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Meh, it was an ok read but nothing special
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Really enjoyed it! Would recommend to others
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Outstanding! Will circle back and read again

A great psychological thriller that keeps you guessing throughout. I was hooked from the beginning and read 80% of it in one night. I just had to know what went down and get the book finished.

FMC Imogen I found to be a little annoying (nothing new there when it comes to me and FMCs) but not so much I couldn’t stand her and I really did question if she was going crazy throughout the book.

A few twists and turns which definitely got me and a few chapters gave me goosebumps (I don’t think it helped I was reading in the dark past midnight).

Short chapters are always a win. A great page turner

Thank you to NetGalley & the publisher for sending me an early e-copy

The Silent House is a nail-biting, dark psychological suspense book that has you questioning everything that happens. Things go from wierd to down right dangerous quickly. This is a deeply twisty read that snares you in immediately and doesn't relinquish its grip until the end. The end was a definite did not see that coming. The chapters were short and easy to follow. The pages of this one turn quickly and will keep you reading well into the night. This was an excellent read and I highly recommend it.

Thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for the advanced copy

Okay I loved this book a lot. I found Imogen to be kind of annoying but it was okay. The plot twist was so twisty I didn't see any of that coming. This book had so many twists and turns right from the start and I could not put it down. I had to know what happened.

Thank you the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read an ARC copy of this book.

The Silent House is a brand new psychological thriller by H.M. Lynn. The story follows Imogen who moves to the countryside with her partner, Patrick, seeking a fresh start. However, from the moment they arrive, something feels off. The locals behave strangely, and she begins to sense that she is being watched. Shadows outside the window seem to shift unnaturally, feeding her growing unease. Then, things escalate—a break-in occurs, reinforcing her suspicion that someone is out to get her. Imogen begins to realise that what seemed like a haven may hide darker secrets, leaving her to question if the danger is real or the product of a fraying mind. The novel builds suspense , making you second-guess what’s real and what’s imagined, it keeps you on edge until the very end. A very good book!

Imogen and Patrick move from the city to a house in a small country town for a fresh start and Imogen feels like soon everything will fall into place for her career and becoming a parent. However, after a strange meeting with the neighbour as they arrive to the property, Imogen is left feeling uncomfortable and starts to notice bizarre and spooky things happening in and around the house. She starts to question whether she is being targeted or if it’s in her head.

This was an entertaining easy read and I liked the short chapters that always kept me guessing and were gripping. The story was fast paced and engaging however I feel like we didn’t get to connect with the main character enough before the incidents started happening - I didn’t know whether to believe her or think she was being paranoid. Imogen was a likeable protagonist but became frustrating as she seemed more and more naive or gullible as the incidents escalated. The plot twist was interesting however predictable in some ways and unfortunately the ending felt rushed and fell a bit flat for me.

I would recommend this to readers who enjoy fast paced thrillers.

Thank you Netgalley, Boldwood Books and HM Lynn for the eArc of The Silent House.

I have read a few of H M Lynn's books and I always really enjoy both the structure of her books as well as her writing style. The Silent House is a medium paced, twisty psychological thriller that will keep you guessing. I do see that if you read a lot of these types of books in this genre, you may figure out possible predicability of the plot but hey, there is only so much unpredictable plot lines out there. I don't think it should put you off.
The Silent House has good, short chapters, with mini cliff hangers. This spurs you on into reading " just one more chapter " which I found engaging and before I knew it, I was near the end. Could all the characters be unreliable? or just one?

This was a gripping psychological thriller that kept me hooked through the whole book. I loved the tense atmosphere and the constant feeling of unease. I loved how the end of each chapter made you want to keep on reading, the twists and turns throughout constantly had me second guessing. The short chapters made it a really easy and fast read, and I enjoyed how the suspense built steadily throughout. This book had many twists and turns that kept you guessing until the very end.

Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley.

Another great read from this author. This was a gripping fast paced psychological thriller with a creepy supernatural feel.

I was hooked from the first page and read this in almost one sitting. The story makes you wonder who you can really trust and is anyone as they really seem. The silent house would make a good tv adaptation.

2.5 stars, I rounded to 3 stars, but hesitantly so.. I know a lot of folks enjoyed this book, but I just didn't get into it that much.
I didn't mind this book overall. I didn't love it. I didn't hate it. It was okay-ish.
I found it to be somewhat predictable. The twists and turns were not shocking or exciting like I wanted them to be.
It was, however, a quick read between other books I wanted to read. I just found myself wanting it to wrap up.
Imogen and Patrick move from London to the country (this felt eerily familiar to multiple other books I have read). Both are successful at their jobs, Patrick a lawyer, and Imogen, an artist. Big age gap in the relationship.
Imogen, you find out at the end of the book (a problem I had with the plot, I needed this earlier in the book), had trauma that shaped her life and made her the way that she is.
Creepy things happen. Patrick thinks Imogen is overreacting.
Imogen was far too forgiving of Patrick throughout the story.
The plot was decently structured. The pace was okay.
I figured things out with Maureen and Patrick far too early in the book. So the rest felt redundant and predictable.
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book!
Happy Reading!

This one had me hooked from the very first chapter. The atmosphere is eerie and immersive, and the slow build of tension kept me turning the pages late into the night. The setting felt vivid and haunting, and the mystery unraveled in a satisfying way. A moody, gripping read that stuck with me after finishing.
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Claustrophobic, creepy thriller based on two main characters, Patrick and Imogen, who have almost 20 years' age difference, Patrick left his wife to marry Imogen and they decided to leave London to go to a secluded village where strange things start happening and Imogen thinks she's losing her mind. I had some difficulty to get into this book but in the end I enjoyed the writing and the ending which changed everything in my opinion.

A thoroughly good read which kept me on my toes and I particularly liked the short chapters.

The storyline was good, what a mixed up lot they were but it made for good reading and overall I did enjoy reading this book.

Thank you to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for this ARC which I can thoroughly recommend.

Imogen and Patrick just moved from London to the middle of nowhere, where the nearest town is four miles away. She’s a painter and he’s a lawyer, and they want to start a family together. Patrick has an adult daughter from his first marriage, Prim, who hates Imogen because she and Patrick were having an affair when he was still married to Prim’s mom, Arabella. Getting out of the city and escaping that mess of a situation seemed like the perfect idea…until they moved in.

Immediately, creepy things start happening. There are dead animals everywhere (not just the ones that were taxidermied by the previous owner), Imogen was almost hit by a car and she feels like someone is watching her. The people who live in this tiny area of cottages all seem very strange; when Imogen goes to town, weird things seem to always happen. There is a group of kids who are constantly causing trouble with vandalism and arson. The only person who seems halfway normal is her new neighbor, Maureen. Despite her being a quirky old woman, she’s the only person Imogen has, as her husband is often in London for work. The two women become friends as things go from strange to dangerous…

This was a really enjoyable read, and I was very happy with the ending. It started going down a path that I see in a lot of thrillers, and that path sometimes comes off as an easy to way to explain things and conclude a story. I was like here we go again…then everything flipped and I realized I had it all wrong! The end of the book is quite a shocker, with no clichés or tired formulas. I was going to give this four stars, rounded up from 3.5, but now it’s getting four stars, rounded down from 4.5. That ending made all the difference.

(Thank you to Boldwood Books, H.M. Lynn and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review. This book is slated to be released on June 12, 2025.)

The Silent House by H.M. Lynn

⭐️⭐️⭐️

Quick paced thriller with eerie setting. I enjoyed it but the plot twist was almost unbelievable. That’s fiction for you?

From the very first page, it pulls you into a world of uncertainty, intrigue, and shocking revelations.
