China Rich Girlfriend is another very readable addition to Kevin Kwan's over-the-top series. The book opens up just a bit in the future from China Rich Asians. Our favorite couple, Nick and Rachel are engaged, but first Rachel needs to get to know her father. It seemed a touch too clever to have him also be wealthy and famous, but I took the leap and enjoyed Rachel coming to terms with her new "family."

My favorite character from Crazy Rich Asians is back again as Astrid navigates Michael's success and how that impacts them and her on-going relationship with Charlie. This part was a bit more serious than the fluffy fun of the last book, but realistic and compelling.

Kitty's storyline, while interesting, seems to have gotten lost in the middle of the book.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed jumping back into the lives of all the characters. While I didn't find the book quite as strong as the first one, it's still a very enjoyable read and I'm looking forward to future installments!

I really enjoyed Crazy Rich Asians and had high hopes for this one. But China Rich Girlfriend is not nearly as good. Almost feels as if the author just banged it out without care. I stopped reading after several chapters, realizing it just wasn't for me.

China Rich Girlfriend by Kevin Kwan is book 2 in his Crazy Rich Asians series and the insanity has just been taken up a notch! This is the uber rich behaving badly. Kwan lets us in on the behavior and desires of the wealthy of the wealthiest of the Asian billion and millionaires. Where a bloodline can often trump the money you have,

"...Wait a minute-I'm in first class. Take me to first class,' Edison Cheng said contemptuously to the flight attendant escorting him to his seat.
'This is first class, Mr. Cheng, ' the man in the crisp navy uniform informed him.
'But where are the cabins?' Eddie asked, still confused.
'Mr. Cheng, I'm afraid British Airways does not have private cabins in first class. But if you'd allow me to show you some of the special features of your seat-'
'No, no, that's fine.' Eddie tossed his ostrich leather briefcase onto the seat like a petulant schoolboy. Fucky fuck-the sacrifices I have to make for the bank...."

When we last left our families of Crazy Rich Asians, Rachel Chu was still the not so rich girl marrying the most eligible uber rich bachelor and still looking for her birth father. Now Rachel, against her fiance's family wishes, is looking to secretly get married. But her mother-in-law Eleanor Young is working to make sure her son, Nicky Young marries a woman of their wealth and stature. That is, of course, until she finds out just who Rachel's father really is.

"...Daisy handed over the phone, and Eleanor's eyes widened almost imperceptibly as she locked on to the image.
'Don't you think he's handsome?' Daisy asked in an almost too cheery tone.
Eleanor looked up from the phone and said, ever so nonchalantly, 'Oh yes, very handsome.'
None of the other ladies said anything else about Mrs. Bao's son for the rest of the dinner, but all of them were thinking the same thing. There was no way it could be a coincidence. Bao Shaoyen's injured son looked just like the woman who had caused the great estrangement between Eleanor and her son, Nicholas.
Yes, Carlton Bao was the spitting image of Rachel Chu..."

It is the eve of her wedding and Rachel Chu is given news that she has waited her whole life for. Only it comes from a most unlikely source. From the woman who has spent the last two years making her life a living hell and doing everything she can to ruin her upcoming marriage to Nicholas Young. Her soon to be mother-in-law, Eleanor Young. Can she trust Eleanor and if she doesn't, does she risk the opportunity to finally meet the father she has always searched for.

Carlton Bao is a super rich playboy who is the only child of one of the most prestigious families in Shanghai with a celebrity girlfriend, Colette, who is constantly chased by the paparazzi. Racing cars in the streets and drinking and partying all night long, Carlton is not ready to take over his family's legacy. He is even less ready to deal with the concept of a sister he has never known he has.

Astrid Leong, the It Girl of Singapore, is Nicky Young's cousin and to the world she seems to have it all. A very rich family, a husband whose tech company has turned him into a millionaire and an entire society watching her every move and wanting to imitate it. But Astrid is about to learn that there is a downside to having it all.

In the words of the immortal Don Henley, "We love dirty laundry!"

Kevin Kwan airs the dirty laundry of the China rich and does it with such sheer joy that it is infectious. The characters in these books are bigger than life and with the controlled restraint of the Asian culture, they still seem to indulge in a world that we can only dream of. Yet for all their wealth, Kwan is quick to point out all their unfulfilled dreams. For what we see is that at times, all this wealth is nothing more than shackles that hold their hopes down.

China Rich Girlfriend is a very enjoyable read with characters that will stay with you long after the final page is turned.

I found this book to be a fun quick read with some familiar and some new characters. It was a nice follow up to the first in the series and while staying on brand did have new and interesting plot lines. I look forward to installment 3! Thank you!

This is such a great book and I could not put it down. Many times a second book in a series is not as good as the first ... but ... this time it somehow got even better!. The story gets more into the crazy lives of the main characters and you see more about them and more about who they are as people and why they are who they end up being. Love the story and the twists that I was not expecting.

I thoroughly enjoyed 'Crazy Rich Asians' and told everyone I could to wait for the release, pre-order and just read it. I'd never read a book like it. There were many moments when I laughed out loud. The characters were written in such a way that I could empathize with them or dislike them. In 'China Rich Girlfriend' I felt the same, but the intensity was heightened.

'China Rich Girlfriend' was 'Crazy Rich Asians' on steroids. Everything was elevated on a whirlwind level. I would call my Dad and read passages to him and he too enjoyed some of the fun with me. Astrid had to endure a lot of crazy town with these people and I enjoyed rooting for her all the way. I loved Michael. He was calm, cool and a stand up guy. After reading both books I started following Mr. Kwan on Instagram and saw him traveling all around to promote his wonderful book. I will read anything he writes from now on.

The covers design on both paperbacks are beautiful. I purchased them both for myself and to share with others.
