A super fun romp through how hiding your true identities and personal struggles lead to circumstances of connection even in non-traditional settings. Andi and Nolan scratch all the itches with tropes of one night stand, fake dating, workplace romance, UK politics…sure to be a hit with a lot of people given the numerous opportunities for swoon.

The Bodyguard Affair was a charming, witty, and heartfelt romance that kept me turning the pages. Andi’s double life as both a personal assistant to the Prime Minister’s wife and a secret romance novelist made for such a fun setup, especially when her bestselling book sparked rumors she never anticipated. The fake-dating trope between Andi and Nolan worked perfectly, particularly with the added tension of their awkward history. Their banter was sharp, their chemistry was undeniable, and Nolan’s personal storyline brought a moving depth to the otherwise lighthearted premise. At times the pacing felt slightly uneven and some conflicts resolved a little too quickly, but overall the mix of humor, heart, and swoon-worthy romance made this an enjoyable read. It was equal parts entertaining and emotional, and I loved watching Andi and Nolan find their way back to each other.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

This was my first Amy Lea book and I loved it!! Nolan had such a sweet disposition & I loved how his relationship with Andi progressed. Also, the fact that he was such a trustworthy steward of her biggest secret & jumped in to help her at every opportunity was so beautiful. Andi was such a real character and her struggles with anxiety was very relatable. Another piece of this book that I loved was Nolan's unique & difficult relationship with his mother. It really captured the struggles of having to care for someone with Alzheimer's, and gently & beautifully showed the complexities of his childhood trauma. I highly recommend picking this one up when it comes out!

Thank you so much to Berkley Publishing Group, NetGalley, & Amy Lea for an ARC 🫶🏼

This was a fun meta read - a romance novel about a romance novelist. There are some heavy topics in here but they never get in the way of the main characters and their growth on their way to their happily ever after.

This book, first and foremost, has heart. I don’t even know how else to explain in. The chemistry (IYKYK) between these two is off the charts and it was a romantic dynamic that I had never read before which made it so much more fun.

Amy knows how to write characters that feel so real. I think a lot of times, romance books present the most ideal people because they are easy to read about. Every single character had depth, and as someone who has had family who has had major medical crisis, and has had to take care of them, it was lovely to see that represented, especially without demonizing the person who needed care.

This book is not all sunshine and rainbows, but it is a book that feels so real with a happy ending, just like most people deserve.

This was such an amazing book. Amy is so talented when it comes to writing stories and capturing the raw emotion from both parties. Nolan’s emotions towards his mom’s sickness, falling in love with Andi, and finally realizing his self worth was so strongly written. Andi and her yearning to be a writer and feeling as though she had to stay as a ghost writer actually made me open my laptop for the first time in MONTHS to start writing again.

By far, this is my new favorite Amy Lea book! I am obsessed with Nolan (and bodyguard romances) for his sweet nature and how he and Andi met. I really enjoyed their history and felt like I lived through it while reading. These characters were so beautifully written- I want to read it again already and suspect this is my new comfort read. Absolutely one of my top 10 for 2025 and cant wait to buy it for my sister for christmas!

Incredibly enjoyable, I was really pulled into the universe Lea created, and the way all the complications unfolded and resolved was both believable and deeply satisfying. Can wait to read more from this author.

I enjoyed this book! I haven't read too many romances with this specific setting (background politics), so I thought it was an interesting premise. I adored Amy Lea's last series, so I was really looking forward to this book! I thought it was a solid romance, and the characters had a great meet-cute. I thought the chemistry between Andi and Nolan was pretty well done, and I really liked their relationship. I did find that the book slowed down quite a bit around the middle, but it picked back up again for the last 30%, so it wasn't too much of an issue. Overall, I enjoyed this book and would recommend it! :)

I enjoyed this - I really loved the characters and I enjoyed the overall plot, but I struggled with the romance and the chemistry of the two characters. At the end I kept thinking "these two people would be better as friends." Which isn't really something that you want to think as a reader after you finish a romance novel.

The Bodyguard Affair is a solid romance. The MC was likable and competent. Her relationship with the bodyguard developed in a believable way against their backgrounds of family baggage. I was on board for about 7/8 of the book. Then it got a little on your face with the preachiness regarding the life lessons on the natures of love and friendship. The author is not wrong, not at all. It just felt like I wasn’t being given credit for my ability to discern the wisdom/insghts contained in the story. Even after all that, I’d recommend this book and look forward to Amy Lea’s next book.

More Canadian romance please and thank you! I loved this! I loved that it was set in Canada, with Canadian characters! The tropes were on point, and once again Amy Lea proves she knows how to write a story that is breezy and fun and readable, but that will also sneak up on you with emotional sucker-punches. A must-read author for me!

This political romance follows Andi, the Canadian Prime Minister’s assistant, and Nolan, his new protection officer, as they fake-date to distract from a scandal—unaware that their messy past (a failed one-night stand) is about to resurface. Beneath the tropes—fake dating! one bed! second chance!—this is a thoughtful story about identity, caregiving, and emotional growth. Nolan’s struggle with his mother’s Alzheimer’s is handled with sensitivity, and Andi’s slow journey toward owning her creative ambitions feels authentic and earned. Their romance grows in small, sincere moments, with Nolan offering unwavering support.

Amy Lea books are the perfect type of book to escape real life. Hilarious, sweet, serious and real, they make you feel all the feels. This was a sweet story with a real life story line. Relatable and so funny in some parts. I shed a tear (dogs!) and I laughed out loud. I appreciated the pace of the book and the characters were extremely loveable. There is some serious subject matter, but it was written with respect and it was heartbreaking but sweet. Highly recommend this book.

I really enjoyed this book for the first half, but for some reason, the last half started to bore me with the lack of tension, dialogue, and static characters. I’m not sure why the changed happened, but I think it had to do with the repetitive experiences I’ve had with romance books and feeling like I’ve read the same lines over and over again. Therefore, while I enjoyed the premise and the bodyguard aspect, I felt that this was another romance book, for me, that lacked the emotional depth I’ve been craving from the genre.

I’m DNFing this book and maybe I’m DNFing too soon, but the absolute gal this book has to have our hero walk into a restroom stall our heroine is in and try to convince me it’s not the absolutely most mortifying thing ever and make it an awkward meet cute isn’t gonna happen for me. Cause there’s so much taboo right now about men being in women’s spaces and this one just confirms for me that it’s totes not okay even if you try to spin it like “It’s okay if a man comes into a restroom women use and sees you naked in your stall cause he might be hot and your soul mate” like bruh. No. I’m not buying it. I don’t like it. I don’t usually get huffy about stuff like this but I’m getting huffy about it.

Adorable book with two romances for the price of one and a cute little failed one night stand turned fake relationship subplot and the kind of politicians we all wish existed.

This was way less glitzy than the cover suggests. It's about a very mousy girl and her job problems. The guy being a bodyguard means he's very bodily hot but personality is just like every other bitch.

Also this takes place in Canada and the author knows I'm American because there are many definitions that Canadians wouldn't need. Lowkey makes the worldbuilding a bit boxy though (to have to explain things in detail like that).

Plot is okay. Doesn't make sense at times (do people actually behave this way?)

I think I need to give up on Amy Lea. But if you read this, you'll be fine. It's an extremely middle of the road fake-dating romance.

Whether you had a little crush on Justin Trudeau (who, me?) or not, The Bodyguard Affair is a romance that will have you dreamily thinking of Ottawa (ok, not really, no book is that good). But definitely you’ll enjoy this one.

Andi writes on the side of her taxing job as the Prime Minister’s wife’s personal assistant. After a breakup in which her ex and her best friend got together and a one night stand that wasn’t with mysterious Nolan, she continues on writing books that have a niche fandom and going way too above and beyond for Gretchen, her boss. Meanwhile Nolan suddenly pops up as the Prime Minister’s protection agent while he moves back short term to take care of his mother, who has Alzheimer’s. A picture taken out of context when the PM tries to make a romantic gesture to his wife, Andi is seen as the other woman and linked to her steamy book the Prime Minister and me - an outing that can’t happen. From there we get a fake dating scheme that has more heart than others I’ve read. Seriously, Nolan is absolutely amazing! There were times I wished that Andi would grow some self confidence and a spine, she was a little ‘too much’ in that area, but Nolan more than made up for it.

This story is both sweet and has plenty of heart, I recommend it!
