This book is a dystopian YA novel where vampires have taken over the world. This book gave me all the vibes from Buffy and TVD and I was here for it. The banter was on point and the atmosphere felt unique for this genre. I loved the relationship between Ruby and Ripley their loyalty and love for each other is the heart of this story. Look forward to reading more from this author.
Thank you to Netgalley and Entangled Teen for this ARC all opinions are my own.

Thank you to Entangled Publishing and the author for providing the gifted copy of this book to participate in their Readalong in their Facebook group.
As a reader who grew up on YA novels (and maybe some about sparkly vampires), I was obsessed with this book!
This book is set in the future after vampires have begun to take over the world as we know it. The world is now divided into 3 factions- humans, true vampires and Bloodwalkers.
Ruby, our FMC, and her twin sister, Ripley were adopted after their mother was killed by a vampire 10 years years ago. They've been raised in a compound for humans and have been training to become vampire slayers. On their last mission before becoming full fledged slayers, Ripley is killed/turned vampire.
After this, Ruby realizes that not everything is as black and white as she's previously believes. She teams up with X, the leader of the vampires in the area to keep her sister safe. As it's a romantasy, the two become romantically involved and have to struggle with how it will work.
I don't want to spoil the book but the ending was amazing, I loved how powerful the message was and that everything wrapped up in one book! And probably one of my favorite parts was that this book was based in Charlotte, NC (where I grew up) and seeing all the landmarks mentioned was so cool! Definitely add this YA vampire romantasy to your TBR!

Super intriguing apocalyptic cross vampire rom com. Ruby and Ripley are twins and have been raised up to be a slayer (vampire unaliver) when faced with their final test prior to being able to graduate things don’t go to plan and Ruby must make a choice that can greatly alter the life she’s always lived.

Entertaining, but the relationship (which was a big part of the plot) didn't make a lot of sense. Very insta-lusty and there was never really a reason for them to like each other, while there were a LOT of reasons for them to be enemies. At the end, when they were talking about what they liked about each other, it was like "You like to drink coffee and you paint and you collect Pokemon cards". Nothing even remotely deep or personal.
The fight sequences were also really confusing. I'm one who pictures stuff in my head as I'm reading it, and I couldn't picture that last battle for anything. I swear the same building fell like 3 different times.
Other than that, the story was entertaining. It was a classic "who's the bad guy?" story. It was a quick, easy read. Seems like it's going to be a series though... lots of loose ends still.

Though this book was not for me, I’m sure vampire loving readers will enjoy it.
Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the opportunity to read the ARC of this book.

Thank you Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for a copy of this book!
The Ground That Devours Us had me hooked from page one. The world is intense, the stakes are high, and the sister bond is so real. Ruby is fierce and funny, and the banter with X is pure gold. It’s got action, humor, and a slow-burn romance that keeps you turning pages. Absolutely loved every minute!

The Ground that Devours Us was such a fun and fresh take on vampires, I was hooked from the start!
With a post-apocalyptic vampire out break, 10+ years into the future we find a desolate compound in Charlotte, North Carolina, Vaille, where there are vampire slayers a-plenty. Ruby and Ripley are twin sisters that lost their mother at the beginning of the outbreak and found solace and refuge with Barnett, a grieving father/husband and leader of Vaille. They both find themselves headed down different paths when a deadly vampire turns Ripley instead of out right killing her which, in turn, leaves Ruby with a decision to make that goes against everything that she was trained to believe.
I loved the twists and turns, the action, and the banter! The characters all felt real and relatable in so many ways and the world building was captivating.

I really enjoyed this book! It was such a good twist on your average vampire story but better! The writing was super good and the relationship between X and Ruby actually grew really well and carried well with the story. It didn’t feel rushed or pushed at all. I also loved the aspect of family in this book! 4/5 🖤

Thank you Netgalley and Entangled for the arc of this book. When I read the description, I knew this was a book I'd thoroughly enjoy. I absolutely love X and Ruby's relationship. Ruby has been taught that vampires have no control, and are pure selfish. But X is showing her a different light, and I love that her eyes are finally being opened.

Thank you so much, Entangled Teen, Kayla Harris and NetGalley for the eARC of The Ground That Devours Us. I did decide to dnf this book at around 30 percent. I did read a bit further to see if I could get into it but ultimately, I could not. The story was a great concept however, the characters felt a little lack luster and the writing felt very juvenile. I was unable to stay focused when reading due to the above.

The Ground That Devours Us by Kalla Harris is a thrilling Young Adult dystopian world filled with vampires. In a vampire-ravaged future, slayer twins Ruby and her sister face their most dangerous mission yet, colliding with two lethal vampires who upend everything. This book was full of tense , enemies-to-lovers, strong sisterhood, lots of banter, and fresh vampire lore, this story delivers danger, heart, and heat—perfect for Young Adult fantasy fans.

This was such a fun read! The world as we know it is over, and vampires and bloodwalkers now roam the earth. In this dystopian story, Ruby and her sister Ripley live in Charlotte in the compound of Vaille, where they are training to be slayers. On a mission, Ripley is turned into a vampire, and Ruby goes to the only place she knows to get her sister back, the feared vampire leader known as X. Ruby and X form a mutual truce to get what they each want. They have such magnetic connection and great banter. This is a true enemies to lovers romance. As Ruby and X become allies, she starts to question everything she was taught about vampires and being a slayer. Who is the real monster? The vampires or the humans? I ate this book up. I was supposed to do the Entangled Read Along and read 11 chapters a day, but that didn't happen. By day 2, I caved and finished the entire book. If you love dystopian books, enemies to lovers, and books with vampires, make sure you add this to your tbr. Spooky season is right around the corner, and this would be a perfect read!!

First, I want to thank Kalla Harris, Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for the chance to read this ARC before its released day. If you are a fan of YA books that have a post-apocalyptic background where vampires have taken over the world and slayers who are trying to stop them then you will absolutely enjoy this book. It also has a romance between a human and a vampire that is so perfect. I love the banter between the main characters I thought they were so funny together. It also has an enemy that you will for sure despise.

This book is fast-paced, addicting, and left me wanting more. Harris has created a dystopian landscape, which we can all envision as this novel is set in the not-so-distant future, and the imagery is *chef's kiss*.
Every character has several layers of complexity in their emotions, interactions, and back story. It's clear that Harris has spent a lot of time developing them. Because each character has so much depth to them, the story doesn't stop moving and is very fast-paced. I had a hard time putting this book down each evening when I was reading.
There are some loose ends that are appropriately placed. I would love to see some sequels or spin-offs and will certainly be interested if they come out.
Thank you, Entangled Publishing and Netgalley, for the ARC opportunity. This honest review has been left voluntarily.

I read this as part of a read-along with the Entangled Insiders Facebook group and had the best time!
This book was absolutely unputdownable! I fully binged it and have no regrets. I was instantly obsessed with X and Ruby and had a total love/hate relationship with the rest of the characters (in the best way!).
The worldbuilding was so vivid I could see it playing out like a movie. It delivered love, hate, jaw-dropping twists, and so many WTF moments that kept me flipping pages late into the night.
If you're into dystopian romantacy with high stakes, fierce characters, and plot twists you won’t see coming… add this to your TBR immediately!

The perfect blend of zombie-apocalypse, vampires, and YA dystopian romance. I had such a great time reading The Ground That Devours Us. The hardest part about doing this book as a Buddy Read was having to resist binge-reading it.
Banter, family, and figuring out what love looks like at the end of the world - The Ground That Devours Us is the paranormal genre bend I've been waiting for.

I “devoured” this book. See in the not too distant future, twin vampire hunters train to become slayers. When one of the twins is turned, the other struggles to find a way to save her.

Kalla Harris wrote a stunner!! This book has all the things you could want. It gave feels, it has emotion, it has action and VAMPIRES!!
This is a YA novel written so well. Each character is developed and hashed out.
We have Ruby who is our closed off, walls up, 'dare you to come at me' FMC. All she wants to do is protect her sister, Ripley.
X is our Vamp MMC who after it all, just wants to have some sense of normalcy.
Two worlds collide, fight, betray and ultimately try to take each other out. This book is filled with politics, enemies to lovers and intrigue. I truly enjoyed it!!

I don’t read a ton of YA these days, but The Ground That Devours Us consumed me!
The world ended ten years ago and the vampires took over. Sisters Ruby and Ripley have been training to become vampire slayers, but on their final outing before graduation, things go horribly wrong. Ripley is turned into a vampire and Ruby is determined to save her sister. The only person she can rely on for help? X, the most wanted (and dangerous) vampire around.
I thought this was a really cool take on vampires. I grew up in the Twilight era and this was a a fun throwback. Ruby was a complex character and one who was easy to root for. Despite training to kill vampires her whole life she is still willing to work with them if it means saving her sister. In doing so, she learns a lot about the vampire life and sees they may not be as bad as she thought. X was a very swoony love interest and I could definitely see his appeal.
Thank you so much to Entangled and especially to the Entangled Insiders Party Room for hosting this readalong. It was my first readalong with the group and I had so much fun - even if I ended up bingeing this the second day 🙃.

The Ground That Devours Us is a fun, exhilarating read with twists that I didn't see coming. It makes you question your own sense of morality and what you would do if you found yourself in these situations.
