In our middle school media center, the hottest genres are humor and fantasy. When a student gets hooked on reading, it's either a Wimpy Kid book or something like Twilight. So I've been exploring different humorous and fantasy books.

While this was a pretty darn good set of books, it's not appropriate for middle school but as an adult, I can recommend them. It's a collection of updated fairy tales with twists thrown in to shake the old plot up. If you've never read steampunk or sci-fi, this is the perfect introduction that blends romance, fantasy and other genres. Take a step out of your comfortable reading genre and try this.

A very charming collection featuring the "retelling" and "reimagining" of classic fairy tale stories and characters. This provided me with many hours of enjoyable and entertaining reading. This is a definite recommendation for those looking for their HEA (Happily Ever After) fix.

A fabulous collection of fairytales, all with a slight twist or different slanted retelling.

A mixed bag (some good, others just so-so) of fun, quirky and down right strange re-tellings of famous fairy tales.

This is an anthology of fairy tales. The stories are more for adults as these different "fairy tales" are more explicit and not quite the same ones I read as a child.

A well written collection of romances inspired by fairy tales.

The fairy tale retelling seems to be the "in" thing at the moment. These are told well enough that I wasn't bored. It isn't something I would read again now that I have read it, but I wouldn't put it down in the middle either.

I liked this collection. The reading was easy going and while some stories were not as great as others, overall this collection had some really good reads.

I have always been a big believer in love and fairytales. This is the perfect set for anyone who is looking for happily-ever-after.

An enjoyable read, with each story holding its own in the collection. Every child enjoys fairy tales, from the good versus evil concept, through to the deeper meanings and life lessons. These stories, although based in the well known, bring a different slant. Very difficult to put down the lengths of each book makes reading in chunks achievable. Definitely worth a read. I particularly liked the links to other books by the authors.
