*The Sunshine Queens* by Sherri Shepherd is a beautifully illustrated book with a stunning and eye-catching color palette. The story centers on a close group of young girls who support each other through both good times and challenges. I especially love the strong message of female friendship and the wonderful representation of children of color. It is so important for children to see themselves reflected in stories, and this book does an excellent job of creating a world where these girls can thrive together. The girls have diverse interests but always know they can count on one another. Although a few pages use white text on a white background, making some parts hard to read, the book’s warmth and beauty shine through. I can imagine young girls wanting to revisit this title again and again. I would rate it 5 out of 5 stars and would happily recommend or gift it to any special young girl. This is a cute book about friendship and supporting each other. I love the diversity and kindness portrayed in the text and illustrations. The girls are really cute.
