Bestselling author, Debra Webb’s series, Colby Agency: The Next Generation Book 2, Alibi For Murder, findsAllie Foster, who is happy to go to work, then spend time at home alone. She gets a knock at the door and lets FBI agents in. They have a video showing her leaving a hospital room where a man she doesn’t know was murdered. She hasn’t been to that hospital for at least five years after leaving her employment as a result of a touchy situation. Because she is accused of the murder, she reaches out to an old friend who is an attorney at the Colby Agency, and they try to find the real murderer. Allie also finds out that her parent’s death in an auto accident was actually a murder, and works to find out why and who carried it out.
Debra Webb certainly knows how to tell a story, and does a good job of this futuristic novel where AI is popular and robots are advanced far enough that they look and act human. The scenarios keep readers enthralled, and on the edge. This particular novel is short (only 218 pages), so it is a fast read, and difficult to put down. Her characters are viable, and she does an excellent job of developing them. Allie, the protagonist, is likeable, and it is surprising that Stephen Durham, the attorney for the Colby Agency is a supporting character – one would think he would be the main character, but instead, Allie is. No matter what the reason, it works. Most readers will want to read the previous novel as well as the subsequent novels. For those who opt to listen to the audio book, the narrator is excellent and makes it easy to listen to. The audible version is highly recommended.
All told, readers who like futuristic novels will love this series.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

This book has a lot of mystery and suspense. Steve and Allie make a sweet couple. It’s a slow burn start. I loved following the clues. I eagerly turned the pages to see what was next. The writing is wonderful. I highly recommend this book. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced free copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley.

An engaging cozy mystery. Good cast of characters. Lots of action and several surprises. It kept me turning the pages. Sweet bit of romance. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy. My review is voluntary.

This was my first Colby Agency book, courtesy of NetGalley, and made overall for an interesting read. When shut-in Allie Foster reaches out to her old classmate Steve Durham, he drops everything to help her figure out who is trying to frame her for murder. The plot gradually unfolds, and kept my attention throughout, ending with a satisfying conclusion when all was said and done.
Being unfamiliar with the first Colby Agency adventure, though, I was expecting a twist - something like, maybe Steve Durham wasn't really on her side, and might even be responsible for framing her. He seemed way too accommodating and too good to be true, never flustered and always found a way to keep their own investigation into what really happened moving forward.
With that said, now that I'm certain Steve Durham and the Colby Agency are the real deal, I'll look forward to checking out the next volume in the series when it comes out.

Decent suspense novel!
I enjoyed the majority of this book, but the ending got a bit beyond imagination for me. I liked Allie's character, she's been through a lot in her life, losing her parents at age 4, raised by grandparents who have recently died, still living in the house. She stays at home most of the time, like many of us after the pandemic, very little contact with the outside world. But all that changes when one evening a knock at her door reveals 2 FBI agents!
Unsure of what to do with the FBI accusations, she turns to a high school friend now an attorney working for the Colby Agency. (While this story is part of the Colby series, it is also a standalone.) Steve remembers Allie and is happy to help. The two of them start investigating and are led down some very dangerous paths.
This was a quick read, great for a rainy day or beachside. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.

This story was so good and well written! I really enjoyed the plot and the characters, and the suspense was so real. I would definitely recommend.

Alibi for Murder by Debra Webb
This is a Colby books. I didn't realize before grabbing it because I grab all new Debra Webb books without looking these days. That said, I haven't read all of her older books, including her original Colby series. This, however, felt more like a standalone to me with some references to other character's pasts but nothing that confused me as to the current book.
This book felt mostly like a romance to me with a background thriller instead of the other way around. Fantastic book with plenty twists and overflowing with romantic tension. Loved it.

Great book! Plenty of intriguing scenarios and mystery surrounding a trumped up murder charge. The Colby Agency does not disappoint and makes it a worthwhile read!
