A cute and fun illustrated book about how awesome grandparents are. The book talks about how some grandparents are calm and others are constantly singing a song. This book would definitely be cute for a kid to give to grandparents or grandparents to give to a kid.

I received an eARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks for the digital copy of this book; I am leaving this review voluntarily

I absolutely loved this children’s picture book written by Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo. The artwork is fun and shows grandparents of all shapes, sizes, colors, and styles. It’s clear from this book that grandma and grandpa of today are a lot different than our grandparents.

Overall, I’m not the greatest fan of celebrity children’s books, but this book was colorful and charming, too.

My Grandma and Grandpa Rock is a cute and sweet children's book. What makes it even better is that it was written by Pat Benatar and her husband.

We read it as an advanced reader copy. My five-month-old seemed to enjoy it because of all the bright colors in the pictures. I appreciated it as it is a great choice for grandparents to read with grandchildren, it offers other grandparent names and professions (just in case yours aren't rock stars), and it is the perfect length to keep a little one's attention. ( We checked it out during bottle feeding.)

Even better, it is out now, right after Grandparents’ Day.

A wonderful lyrical book for anyone with grandparents!

This book is colourful, lyrical and brings you into the story. Many a times the book asks you, the reader, a question which gives natural breaks to have a discussion with the person you are reading it with. It also has multiple page spread artwork which always gives the reader much to look at and absorb. I also like how certain pages draw your eye naturally to follow the words, and there wasn't a spot we got lost while reading it.

This was a fun book, and a treat for at bed time. We will definitely be reading it again!

WHAT'S MY GRANDMA AND GRANDPA ROCK! ABOUT?
This is a very sweet tribute to grandparents—not just your traditional older adult being kind and making cookies, or whatever. But grandparents who have a passion, who share it with their grandchildren—whether it's being a musician—professional or otherwise—or any other number of professions. (although the book does understandably lean toward musicians)

The one thing this book stresses most of all is the thing that unites every grandparent—their love and affection for their grandchildren—which is what really rocks.*

* Yeah, that's a cheesy and corny line. But a book this pleasantly sappy brings it out in a guy.

LET'S TALK ABOUT THE ART FOR A MINUTE
I don't know if I can defend this, but when I saw this cover on NetGalley's page, the grandparents in the middle of the image made me think of Love Händel (or at least Bobbi Fabulous), and that was more than enough for me.

I don't really see that now—unless I squint—but that doesn't matter. What I do see is just cute. You can see some samples at Everett's website. The characters of all ages/races/professions are warm and inviting. There's a good energy captured in the pages, and everyone seems happy and loving. A great way to depict the relationships between grandparents and grandchildren.

And, I tell you what, my 7-month-old grandcritter was captivated by the illustrations. He didn't seem to care about the text (shockingly) or even what I sounded like—but those pictures?

HOW IS IT TO READ ALOUD?
I didn't really get into a rhythm when I read it to myself or the grandcritter. But I think that maybe if I read it a few more times, I'd stumble into it—I can't imagine these writers didn't write with one in mind. I just didn't find it.

What I did find was a very pleasant read, it worked really well to read aloud.

SO, WHAT DID I THINK ABOUT MY GRANDMA AND GRANDPA ROCK!?
You may not believe me, but I honestly didn't realize who wrote this when I requested the title. I liked the title and the cover. I did feel a little silly when I saw "Pat Benetar" on the title page—"hey, that's just like that...d'oh!" This isn't a case of me chasing a celebrity author.

Really, I'm just a sucker for books about Grandparents lately (for some, strange, unknown reason), so the title and cover got me.

It's cute, it's sweet, it's heartwarming, it's fun, it speaks for every Grandpappy, Grandmammy, grand-père, avó, vavnI', Kristasof, or whatever you call a Life-Giver Unit, Previous Iteration in your house.

Parents should pick this up to give to kids so they can read it and melt the heart of grandparents. Fellow grandparents should pick this up to give to their favorite people to help them learn what the most important job of a grandparent is.

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from Sourcebooks Jabberwocky via NetGalley—thanks to both for this. Sorry that it's up late.

Rock legends Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo aren’t interested in retiring. They want to keep rocking, even though they are now grandparents. And they have written a book about grandparents who rock.

And while they rock, literally, they understand that not all grandparents rock the same way they do. Some rock by singing or dancing, some by baking or teaching or working with computers. Some grandparents are still working and some are not, but their most important job is loving their grandkids.

My Grandma and Grandpa Rock! is a charming book about kids and their relationships with their grandparents. It doesn’t matter what they’re called or what they do with their time, a grandparent’s love is a special thing, and this book celebrated that. It’s all about the love they share.

With warm, colorful illustrations from Tiffany Everett, My Grandma and Grandpa Rock! proves that it’s never to late to express yourself, through music, through words, or through love.

I grew up in the ‘80s, and Pat Benatar was one of the voices of the soundtrack of my life. She has been inspiring me for decades, and I was excited to see that she had written a children’s book with her husband Neil Giraldo. This book is so sweet and fun, and while I don’t have grandchildren myself, I was still inspired by this book, and I know kids of all ages will enjoy revisiting that grandparent/grandchild relationship.

Egalleys for My Grandma and Grandpa Rock! were provided by Sourcebooks Kids through NetGalley, with many thanks, but the opinions are mine.

This book is for all types of grandparents and grandchildren . . . and their kids/parents in between. It's full of energy and love. Illustrations are colorful, inclusive, multicultural, and exuberant. [I found the little socked feet especially adorable.] Families are shown doing things together that are special to both the grandparent and grandchild. A wide range of hobbies and jobs are shown. They even mention a variety of lovey names, noting that some grands have extra-special names just for them (less usual/not listed—mine is Sunny).

Even if the words had not been penned by '80s rockers Benatar and Giraldo, I would have read it. But, it's especially delightful to see them embracing this aspect of their lives . . . and sharing it with all the other grandparents who rock in their own ways!

Happy Grandparent's Day, y'all!

I guess if I can be a grandparent, then it makes sense that Pat Benatar (72) would also have grandchildren.

The rock star who brought us fabulous hits like 'Love Is a Battlefield' is about to release a picture book about grandparents with her lead guitarist and partner Neil Giraldo.

Full of colorful illustrations and all the things your Grandma and Grandpa can do in addition to singing. They Rock!

Thank you to Sourcebooks Kids and NetGalley for a digital copy in exchange for an honest review.

I love this addition to the library of picture books about grandparents! When we encourage kids to be all they can be, to honor themselves and their differences ….. why not encourage them to think beyond the steroetypes of what grandparents are or should be? Pat and Neil ROCK, and so can everyone’s grandparents, no matter what they like to do!

This book is so very inviting and will be enjoyed by kids and their grandparents. The illustrations are lively and engaging. The accompanying text is fun.

The narrator’s grandparents enjoy music, both singing and with their hands respectively, and are not quiet and calm. They dress uniquely. They are given space here, even as kids are invited to think about what their own grandparents are like and can do.

The end of the book has fun illustrations with the names for grandparents in many cultures. A shout out is given to whatever talents they may have, sweetly ending with how they love their grandchildren.

This title will make a perfect addition to a toddler’s library.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Kids for this title. All opinions are my own.

Having grown up in the 70s and 80s, I've been a fan of Pat Benatar for as long as I can remember, so when I saw she'd written a children's book I was thrilled. The illustrations are wonderful, and being a grandparent myself, I loved the message that all grandparents are "cool" in their own special way, even if they aren't actual rockstars. I would recommend this sweet book to everyone.

Such a a beautiful book! I’m glad the grandparents are getting some shine on them. I loved how it teaches that everyone’s grandparents are different, but they all still rock! This would be a beautiful book for grandparents to read on grandparents day at school to the class.
Also the illustration is beautiful!

Thank you NetGalley & Pat Benatar for giving me the opportunity to read the beautiful book.

I absolutely love this book. My grandpa taught me what it is to love music and what music can do in our lives. This book reminds me a lot of him. I would definitely recommend buying and reading it to any and everyone.

Reading challenge category - 2025 PopSugar: Book with a left-handed character (Pat Benatar is ambidextrous)

Thanks to #Netgalley for the ARC ebook.

A super cute kid's book that shows appreciation for all different kinds of grandmas and grandpas! I thought this was going to be more focused in on Pat and Neil, which would have been great, but I was pleasantly surprised to see it as a dedication to all grandparents out there!
