I love all kinds of food writing, so when I saw a memoir from one of the world's last "anonymous" food critics, I knew I wanted to read it.

Admittedly, I really didn't know much about Besha Rodell at all, so it was fascinating to hear her journey--she provides just the right balance of food writing, travel writing, and personal stories to keep my interest and learn a few things a long the way.

She's a talented writer that brings you into each story, each new desination, and each restaurant, and she doesn't sugarcoat the hard stuff or make everything super-dramatic.

Definitely recommended for anyone that enjoys anythine related to food, travel, or self-discovery.

This was a really fun food memoir by a former restaurant critic that is perfect for fans of Ruth Reichl and was great on audio narrated by the author herself. I didn't know much about the author before but enjoyed learning about the food critic scene in this heartfelt and funny book. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early audio copy in exchange for my honest review!

I was a waitress over 15 years ago, and this got me thinking about those days again. This book was a very real exploration not just of the food industry from a woman's point of view, but also the struggle to make a living while pursuing an art (food and food presentation is an art, you can't convince me otherwise), and balancing work and family. I recommend this book to people who haven't worked in the food industry, it would give some good perspective on how things have been going in that industry.
