I read "Crazy Spooky Love" by Josie Silver on NetGalley. I can not wait for the next one in the series. I loved all the wacky characters in this book! The ghosthunting team of Melody, Marina and Artie is a win. And there is definitely romance (or hot sex) in the book too!

I had a great time reading this! I loved Melody, her bestie Millie, and new recruit Arthur. The banter had me laughing out loud, and I loved the mystery storyline with Melody helping the ghostly brothers move to the other side. The fact that she was outperforming her ex, Leo, was an added benefit for both of us, cause I thought he was kind of smarmy.
I loved the characters, even the ghosts; I loved their banter with each other and how they slowly revealed their personalities. The mystery had me on the edge of my seat, and while I'm not sure I totally understood the romance between Fletcher and Melody, other than pure lust. I don't think she does either, so I look forward to us figuring it out together.
I'm so happy that I read this, and can't wait to read the next one!!

Just in time for Spooky Season comes a fun new series from one of my favorite romance novelists, Josie Silver. I have read and loved every one of Silver's novels, starting with One Day in December, and was super excited to see her branching off into a series, with Crazy Spooky Love (and Kooky Spooky Love coming next). What a great kick-off this one was!
With a cast of characters that is unrivaled in the genre, Crazy Spooky Love had me laughing out loud throughout and even tearing up a little at times. Melody Bittersweet, a 20-something who shares the ability to communicate with ghosts with her mother and grandmother, is going off on her own with a new ghost-busting business. With her best friend and their newly hired assistant, Melody's Girls Ghostbusting Agency is hired to rid the Scarborough mansion of the spirits that are preventing its sale. Enter rival (and ex-boyfriend) Leo Dark and nosy journalist Fletcher Gunn along with three stubborn spirits and a pug dog named Lestat, and readers are on their way to a sweet and slightly spicy tale.
I enjoyed this book very much, and was reminded throughout of the old Scooby-Doo cartoons even without several references to the old series. I am looking forward to the next book in the series, which is scheduled for publication on October 28, 2025.
Thank you to Netgalley and Ballantine/Dell for the digital ARC of Crazy Spooky Love by Josie Silver. The opinions in this review are my own.

I’ve loved so many of Josie Silver’s earlier books so I was open to seeing how she tackled a more paranormal romance, but I’m sad to say this one really didn’t work for me. Others may really love it. It definitely has cozy mystery vibes and I’m just finding that I’m really not a cozy mystery fan.
I really enjoyed the first 30% and seeing the dynamic between Melody, Marina and Artie. They gave off Scooby Doo vibes, which was pretty cheesy but it worked. Until my eyes started glazing over any time Leo Dark or Fletcher Gunn entered the scene. The romance just wasn’t romancing. There was zero chemistry. She couldn’t stand these guys (understandably, they seemed like total bozos) but every time they were around she just wanted to jump their bones. 🙄🙄
My favorite part had to be Melody’s interactions with Isaac and his ghostly brothers. By 60% I just skimmed and skipped to the end to find out who did it, which wasn’t really a mystery at all.
Cozy mystery fans might really love this one but I won’t be continuing on with the series myself.
Thank you to NetGalley, Dell, Ballantine and Josie Silver for the advance copy. All opinions are my own.

DNF at 30%, I tried really hard to love this book and was so excited when I saw that I was given an advanced copy to review. However, I dont think the writing style was for me, the storyline seemed great but the writing really lost me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Ballantine | Dell for the ARC of Crazy Spooky Love by Josie Silver.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I had to keep checking that I had the author right on this one. It was not what I’ve come to expect from Josie Silver, but still a good one. Definitely a good start to fall, getting ready for Halloween/spooky season read, with a mix of romance in there.
Melody Bittersweet comes from a line of Bittersweet women who can see ghosts. But she wants to venture out and do something different than what her mom and gran did, even if they all live and work in the same building. She decides she’s going to ghost hunt or as her friend, Marina, terms the business they are ghostbusters. Marina can’t see ghosts, nor can Artie who comes on to help, but this team of three is taking in a big job at the Scarborough house! And of course there is Melody’s past love interest who is already there working, Leo Dark, who can see ghosts. And…the news reporter, Fletcher Gunn, who may or may not be interested in Melody but 100% believes all the ghost stuff is not legit. A fun read on the journey to ghostbust the Scarborough brothers and see if Melody finds love along the way!

This book is what it it says it is, and is entertaining. It doesn't get deep or philosophical about the ghosts and how Melody's powers work, and that is for the best as it just lets the story flow. It's oddball and a nice seasonal read.

Crazy Spooky Love is like if Gilmore Girls and Ghostbusters had a love child who grew up watching BBC murder mysteries and flirting with ghosts. Yes, it's that fun.
This is not your average rom-com. It’s a rom-com with ghosts, a love triangle with literal exorcisms, and a heroine who can banter and banish in the same breath. Melody Bittersweet is 27, newly single, emotionally scattered, and officially the owner of her own paranormal girlboss agency. She’s quirky without being twee, grounded despite seeing dead people, and honestly? A hot mess in the most endearing way.
She’s tasked with helping three extremely dramatic, very dead brothers stop haunting a house they refuse to give up. Enter:
💋 Leo Dark – Melody’s insufferably sexy, fame-hungry ex who’s ghostbusting for clout and camera time
📰 Fletcher Gunn – a sharp-tongued skeptic journalist who thinks the Bittersweet family is full of woo-woo nonsense... until he can’t stop thinking about one Bittersweet in particular
This book delivers:
👻 Haunted mansions and ghostly family feuds
🔥 Banter so sharp you’ll feel personally attacked (in the best way)
💀 A delightfully chaotic cast of spirits, sidekicks, and one very sarcastic cat
💘 A romance that sneaks up on you like a ghost in the library—unexpected, a little spooky, and utterly charming
Josie Silver brings her signature warmth and wit to this spooky-sweet series starter, but she’s turned up the whimsy and the weird. Melody’s world is full of heart and hauntings, where grief and giggles exist side by side, and kissing the wrong guy might be the least risky part of your day.
If you like your rom-coms with a little ectoplasm, a little mystery, and a lot of lovable weirdos, this is your next cozy binge.

Crazy Spooky Love by Josie Silver was such a delight. I found myself laughing out loud at the sharp one liners and completely charmed by the quirky group of characters. Alongside all the laughs, there’s a heartfelt layer about family and forgiveness that really resonated with me. And the romance? Way steamier than I expected in the best possible way. The mix of funny, heartfelt, and swoony moments made this such an enjoyable read, and I loved every minute of it.
Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC!

This book surprised me in the best way. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I ended up absolutely loving it!
Melody Bittersweet was such a fun, quirky character. I loved seeing her start her own business, and her lifelong friendship with Marina was so special. The two of them have the best bond! Artie was the perfect edition to their Ghostbusting agency, and I loved seeing him come out of his shell and build his confidence.
I enjoyed the animosity between Melody and her ex, and was pleasantly surprised by his kindness. But I'm not rooting for him, instead I'm 100% rooting for Fletch! I adore everything about that man and hope he and Melody will get their happily ever after sooner than later.
My favorite part of the book has to be the three brother ghosts. Their snark and banter was top-notch, and the mystery behind Douglas's death kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved how it unfolded and how Melody solved it. There were some truly touching and emotional moments.
I definitely recommend this fun, paranormal book!
Thank you to Netgalley and Ballentine/Dell for the e-arc!

Wow, what a fun read! Cannot wait to open the second book ASAP, because this was brilliantly done and perfect for fall. recommending this to all!

"Crazy Spooky Love" by Josie Silver is an engaging, cozy read that sets the stage beautifully for what promises to be a delightful series. The charm of this book lies in its well-crafted, relatable characters who bring both warmth and humor to every page. Silver's knack for blending wit with heartfelt moments keeps the story entertaining and engaging.
The cozy atmosphere is perfect for readers looking for a feel-good escape, complemented by a storyline that manages to be both funny and endearing without feeling forced.
If you’re in the mood for a cozy, character-driven story with a touch of humor, "Crazy Spooky Love" is a fantastic pick!

Josie Silver does it again! I have loved all of her work and Crazy Spooky Love is no exception. A bit of fantasy mixed with plenty of reality and a meddling family make this a great fall read.

This is a really cute fall read! Perfect for spooky season! I think there will be tons of people who love this!!
I fear it’s not for me though. The characters were fun and so quirky! But I felt like everything was over explained and the humor just didn’t hit quite right for me… and the first half just dragged on.
And honestly the mentions of HP turned me off straightaway.
Thanks to Dell for the arc in exchange for an honest review!

I was so excited to see that Josie Silver was coming out with a new book. Then I found out it was going to be a series. This is sooooo different than the other books that she writes. I really enjoyed this book and was so excited to be able to read the next book in the series right after. I will continue to read this series. I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a cute spooky book.
Thanks NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book.

Thank you Ballantine and NetGalley for the ARC!
This book was so fun! Melody Bittersweet and her band of misfits and foes took us on a really fun ride. I enjoyed the Fletcher character as well, and how that relationship progressed over the course of the book. The story was a little silly, but I am excited to read the next in the series!
Thanks again for the ARC!

Melody Bittersweet is a medium who can see and talk to the dead. She decided it was time to be an adult and venture into a new business that is seperate from her mother & grandmother's ghost expertise. So with the help of her spunky Italian lifelong friend Marina and the newest gentle giant Artie they came together to form the Charlie's Angel/ Scooby Doo deactivate agency that will help with hauntings and poltergeist. 👻 The very first assignment brings together Melody's Ex who reminds me of the Criss Angel version of ghost hunting, and a rival reporter who will melt your heart with one look.
The dynamic between Melody, Marina and Artie is unmatched. All different personalities that mesh together so well. They not only help each other out but blossom as individuals.
The love triangle aspect with Melody, her Ex and the reporter is SO GOOD. The way Melody fights with herself is like having a devil on one side and an angel on the other. The tension finally builds up to the point where she looses control in the best way possible. Chef's kiss.
I absolutely loved this book, it's just a light refeshing fall read. I honestly can't wait for the next!!

I recommend reading this book late Sept or early October! It’s so good! Highly recommend and you will love each character and plot!

Spooky Season has begun!
This book reminded me a lot of the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich but instead of catching bail bond escapees, Melody Bittersweet is chasing ghosts.
Melody sees ghosts and decides at age 27 to turn it into a Girls' Ghost-Bustin Business. She's got her sidekick bestie and gains some other pals along the way. All the while, she's trying to avoid her ex and the hot reporter ...
This book felt like a new path for author Josie Silver. It read more like a tv sitcom (or again, like a Janet Evanovich book) - it took me a ways to get into it. The love triangle (well is it?) was a bit odd - something just didn't quite work for me entirely with it. (This was no summer I turned perfect - who should Belly pick scenario). But by the end of this book, I did feel mildly invested in the characters and the business. I'd read another Melody Bittersweet book to see where this goes.
3.75⭐(rounded up)

Thanks to Dell for the gifted copy!
While another major move away from her emotional romances, CRAZY SPOOKY LOVE is more similar to Josie’s newer, lighter rom coms. It’s the start of the Melody Bittersweet series, and the good thing is that it’s a very short wait for book 2!
Melody can see dead people, just like the rest of the women in her family. She decides to open her own ghost hunting business with a friend, and her first job is getting the ghosts of the Scarborough brothers out of their family home. Her competition in the endeavor? Her ex, Leo Dark. Also meddling into the situation is local reporter, Fletcher Gunn.
This was a really cute cozy mystery for fans of the all-female Ghostbusters, Scooby Doo, and Casper. I actually liked this more than I expected because cozy mystery isn’t my thing… but I had to give it a try because I love Josie and her books! It’s quirky, a bit cheesy, and everything I would expect from the genre. The whodunnit mystery mixed in with a paranormal element and fun romance worked really well for a super fun fall read!
