it completely hooked me from the very first chapter. What I thought would be a simple story about two women sharing an apartment quickly turned into a dark and twisty psychological thriller that I couldn’t put down. Kent has a real talent for building suspense in subtle ways—small details, offhand comments, and little red flags that slowly build until you realize something much more sinister is happening beneath the surface.

One of the things I enjoyed most was the unreliable feel of the narration. I kept questioning whether I could trust what I was being told, and that uncertainty kept me on edge the entire time. The pacing is sharp and fast, with short chapters that practically beg you to read “just one more” until suddenly it’s midnight and you’re still flipping pages. The atmosphere Kent creates is both claustrophobic and intriguing, and it made me feel like I was right there in the apartment with the characters, picking up on every strange shift in tone.

The twists were what really sealed it for me. Just when I thought I had figured out the direction of the story, Kent pulled the rug out from under me and changed everything I thought I knew. The ending was especially satisfying—it was shocking, but it made sense in a way that tied all the threads together.

If you enjoy psychological thrillers that are creepy, fast-paced, and full of surprises, The Perfect Roommate is definitely worth a read. It’s one of those books that makes you question how well you really know the people around you, and it lingered in my thoughts long after I finished the last page.

This dark, unsettling thriller kept me hooked and constantly guessing. Just when I thought I knew the ending, I was completely wrong! Written from the main character’s perspective with vivid detail, it’s fast-paced, full of diverse personalities, and strikingly relatable. The title drew me in, and I’ve found a new favorite author!

This is very first book I have read from this author and I do not regret it absolutely loved the twist in this book it through you for a loop you can even try to imagine what's going to happen. Once you pick this book up it's so hard to put back down. I have a 15 month old and a 3-month-old, and it was so hard trying to put this book down when they started crying. Absolutely loved this book.

This tense and twisty psychological thriller brilliantly explores the fragile boundaries between friendship and deception. Meadow’s desperate search for belonging leads her to Lauren, whose charm and generosity mask a darker side, creating a gripping dynamic full of manipulation and hidden motives. The story expertly builds suspense as secrets unravel and trust erodes, keeping readers guessing who can be truly trusted—and who might be willing to kill to protect their carefully constructed facade. Perfect for fans of intense, character-driven thrillers with a sharp psychological edge.

Revised edition: This edition of The Perfect Roommate includes editorial revisions.
I had an opportunity to re-read this one. It reminded me what I enjoy this author’s writing style.
Meadow needed a place to stay, and Lauren’s empty room seemed like the ‘perfect’ solution.
Enter Lauren’s friends who then suddenly became Meadow’s friends. Elisabeth, one of Meadow’s clients through the cleaning service she worked for, befriended Meadow – or did she?
It was interesting to read about Meadow’s transformation from a wallflower into a full-fledged rose, so to speak. The transformation was not so subtle. And all the well-kept secrets between these seemingly close friends. The seeds that were dropped to make them turn against one another.
And that ending? I have to wonder if Meadow started doing the same things over again in her new place with her new roommate, and who exactly turned out to be the ‘perfect’ roommate. It leaves me to wonder.

Thank you Thomas and Mercer for this ARC!

I’m never surprised when Minka grips me to the edge of my seat. Her writing style paired with thrillers has become an absolute favorite of mine. The Perfect Roommate wasn’t any different. It quickly turned into a page turner for me because I HAD to know what was to come.

What starts as a story about Meadow trying to find a place to stay and it leads her to her new roommate, then it turns into realizing she didn’t know her roommate that well. Was it ever a good idea to move in with her?

I really enjoyed this one, and I will be looking towards my next Minka book.

Minka Kent does it again! I find her novels leaving me the same way I feel when I read Frieda McFadden novels. Always on the edge of my seat and obsessed!

Minka Kent hits the mark every time and this was no exception. I love that all of her lead characters are social outcasts in one way or another, yet they’re all somehow relatable.

The unexpected twists and turns had me locked in and I loved how everything came together in the end. The end definitely left the door open for a sequel. I wonder if this will become a series?

This book is exactly the right length with short chapters and perfect pacing. You’ll finish it in just one or two sittings. (It was one for me!)

I definitely recommend this book if you’re into mysteries/thrillers/suspense.

4.3 rounded down to 4.

Twisty, Creepy, and Impossible to Put Down!

Minka Kent has a way of drawing you in from the very first page, and The Perfect Roommate is no exception. What begins as a seemingly simple roommate arrangement quickly spirals into a dark and unsettling story that had me questioning everyone’s motives. Kent masterfully builds tension with an unreliable narrator, subtle clues, and a growing sense of dread that kept me flipping the pages late into the night.

Just when I thought I had figured out where the story was going, the twists proved me wrong. The atmosphere is deliciously eerie, and the psychological mind games had me hooked until the final reveal. If you love thrillers that are fast-paced, unpredictable, and packed with suspense, this one absolutely delivers.

Well done!

Meadow needs a place to live and after going to a apartment. She sees that a room in a flat is available for rent and ends up moving in with Lauren, thinking she’s found the ideal living situation. As Meadow observes Laurens’ routine her tea preferences, closet organization, and social habits she wants to be more like Lauren. But beneath Lauren’s flawless exterior lies secrets. Tension escalates as Meadow uncovers disturbing truths about her new friends.

How well do we actually know our friends?

This is a thriller. It’s quite short around 200 pages. It’s not as fast paced as I would prefer thrillers to be. It’s not a pageturner, more a slow burn with a twist at the end. An ok read.

The perfect roommate by Minka Kent, when Meadow Couples finds herself homeless, she is pleasantly surprised to see on the college website that another English major and senior Lauren widenfell, was looking for a roommate. she shows up to be even more surprised by the fact Lauren is welcoming she isn’t looking for references nor does she need a deposit and yes Meadow can move in that day. it doesn’t take long for Lauren and her new roommate to become thick as thieves that is until Meadow learned something disturbing about her favorite professor. Meadow works for cleaners as a part-time job and even cleans the professor and his wife’s home she is pregnant and really idolizedd him until she learned about his extra marital affair. especially since she has really become good friends with his wife Elizabeth not to mention the affair is with her roommate who also has a boyfriend. There are many things Meadow learns about her roommate as time goes by that makes her not even possess the ability to look Lauren in the eye and this is why she’ll eventually move out and in with Elizabeth. there are a lot of things I am skipping in this book such as the whole thing with her mom and bug, her plans to try and start dating Lawrence’s boyfriend, how much she hates liars which is another reason she find it hard to continue living with Lauren but she doesn’t move in with Elizabeth until after reads murder. A murder in which she is on the suspect list thanks to Lauren. this is one crazy book and a book I really enjoyed. Although at the beginning I was so over the whole I have never had friends nor had a conversation with another human despite the fact she was a senior in college. So the author wants us to believe that even though meadow spent four years in college she’s never been in a group activity nor discuss things with her professor not until her senior year but having said that the more I continued reading the book the more I loved the protagonist and really was rooting for her. This is an awesome thriller/mystery and one I definitely absolutely recommend. #NetGalley, #TheBlindReviewer, #MyHonestReview, #ThePerfectRoommate, #MinkaKent,

This had the recipe that Minka Kent is known for, albeit the red herring and twist was a tag clunky for me. I did enjoy the commentary on friendship and loyalty though I wanted to see another spin.

Some things are truly too good to be true. But when there are signs, pay attention. I enjoyed the writing very much, as I usually do, and the story made for a good thriller. You did not know who was lying or hiding something. And you certainly learned just how imperfect people really are.
At first, I thought we were going to have a single white female problem on our hands. But then we see they everyone had something to hide, gain and in the end, lose.
However, I didn't like how quickly and blindly our lead character "bonded" with everyone. She went from being reserved to changing everything about herself including what she ate. She finally decided to steal and snoop to keep up appearances. That's some real peer pressure. The flip flop in who to trust with information was crazy. But how quickly putting your trust in others who live shady, envious lives can blow up in your face and bring you down.
I wish there was little more action developing with what Meadow learned from the "betrayers", but the reveal unfolded to a big surprise at the end to know exactly who played what part.
In the end I noticed that something was about to repeat... "the bond." Sharing the look of another perfect roommate? To me it feels like our lead has a problem of her own.
Que the drama because I am here for it all!

Wow, this book will make you think twice about who you let into your home, let alone your life! The engrossing plot twists will leave you feeling like you’ve figured it out, only to have the rug pulled out from under you—and I loved every second of it! Meadow, looking for a place to stay while attending college, stumbles upon an ad for a roommate. Lauren, who needs someone to share her space until the end of the semester, seems like the perfect match. When Meadow answers the ad, she’s blown away by the beautiful home and her amazing new roommate—it feels like her luck is finally turning around. Lauren notices Meadow’s shyness and thinks she might be just the person to bring her out of her shell. Soon, they’re not just roommates but fast friends. But one of them is hiding more than they’re letting on. This book was so much fun—it had my head spinning! Just when I thought I had it all figured out, I was completely wrong. A must-read, grippingly dark domestic thriller!
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Getting the Single White Female vibes but so much more… get ready for a wild ride! Meadow, an English Lit major currently living in her car is searching for a place to live when luck has it, she sees “roommate wanted” post. Lauren owns a beautiful home and needs a roommate to share living expenses since her parents cut her “spending allowance”. It’s the perfect house, a perfect roommate, a perfect fit. Lauren and Meadow’s friendship forms fast - Lauren is super friendly and generous to the introverted Meadow. With new clothes, new hairstyle and makeup, Lauren soon transforms Meadow into a new Meadow. Weird things start to happen. Someone is murdered. Suspenseful and filled with so many twists. The short chapters kept it fast paced and easy to read. Thank you to @netgalley @minkakentauthor for this amazing binge read! My first book by Minka Kent but not my last! The first sentence had me hooked and I thought I was in for an amazing ride. Unfortunately this just felt extremely rushed and unfinished and just didn't hit for me.

Thank you NetGalley, the author and Thomas & Mercer for an advanced copy in exchange for a review.
