The Perfect Roommate by Minka Kent
I absolutely loved this book. It was a fun, fast-paced read that kept me hooked! This was my first Minka Kent novel, and I can honestly say it won’t be my last… I’ll definitely be hunting down more of her work!
For a thriller that’s only 234 pages, I was honestly shocked at how well-written and impactful it was. Don’t let the length fool you, this little book packs a serious punch. I flew through it, and I was floored with the ending. I genuinely did not see it coming, and I was so thrilled that it went there.
I had so much fun reading this that as soon as I finished, I ran to my book group and told them all they needed to start the book asap, (selfishly i needed people to talk to about the outcome!)
Whether you’re in a slump, need a quick palate cleanser before diving into something meatier, or just want a thriller that’ll leave your jaw on the floor, this is the one.
6 stars from me. I couldn’t put it down.
Chef’s kiss!

Minka Kent never lets me down. Her books are fast paced, engrossing from the first page, and keeps the reader guessing as to what is going to happen next.
Meadow disappointed me though. She comes across as a moral person, but then does the thing she detests that others do. Lying and stealing. Without any conscience.
She is easily drawn in, and feels very let down when her friends aren't exactly the type of people she thought they were.
A good, quick read. Short chapters with twists and a plot that will keep the reader glued to the pages.
4/5 stars from me.

Meadow is a college student in need of a place to live and she has hit the jackpot with her new roommate. Lauren is friendly, outgoing, popular and kind. Meadow's new friendship with Lauren helps her come out of her shell and become more confident.
She's now friends with Lauren's friends, going to Lauren's favorite restaurants, and even wearing Lauren's old clothes.
And when there is a murder on campus, secrets come out and everything unravels.
The Perfect Roommate was a quick read and I enjoyed the characters and their relationships. Meadow is full of cynicism and sass, two of my favorite characteristics in a character. With less than 300 pages, the book offers some fun twists that kept me flipping pages.

The Perfect Roommate completely exceeded my expectations—this book is an absolute gem. From the very first chapter, I was completely captivated. The author wastes no time diving into the action and creating a gripping sense of curiosity. I found myself instantly pulled into the story and unable to put it down.
What makes this such an addictive read is how effortlessly it's written. The pacing is fast, the chapters are short, and the tension never lets up. It’s the kind of book you say you’ll read “just one more chapter” of—and then suddenly you’re up at 2 a.m. because you need to know what happens next.
But the real heart of the story for me was the character Meadow. She’s so complex, raw, and relatable. I found myself connecting with her on such a personal level—it felt like parts of me were reflected in her experiences, her thoughts, and even her flaws. Meadow isn’t a perfect heroine, and that’s what makes her so powerful. She’s human, she’s emotional, and she’s unforgettable.
The plot twists? Absolutely insane—in the best way. Just when you think you have things figured out, the story takes a sharp turn and leaves you speechless. It’s filled with suspense, drama, and just the right amount of psychological intensity to keep your heart racing.
The Perfect Roommate is more than just a thriller—it’s an emotional rollercoaster with layered characters and a storyline that keeps you guessing until the very end. It’s the perfect combination of thrilling and thought-provoking.
If you’re looking for a book that grabs you from the start, keeps you invested with shocking twists, and leaves you thinking about it long after it’s over, this is it. I would recommend The Perfect Roommate to absolutely anyone. It’s a must-read and easily one of the best thrillers I’ve read in a long time.

Like everything I’ve read from Minka Kent, I loved this book. Meadow is broke and looking for a new place to live when one of her classmates, Lauren, lists her spare bedroom for rent. Things spiral into obsession and murder and it’s really hard to see any of the twists coming. The ending and the change of heart that makes it possible come on a little quickly but all of the loose ends are satisfyingly tied up and the ending absolutely leaves you wanting more.

Good quick thriller. I actually read this book in 2023. ( not sure why it says that it is coming out in 2025)

Another fantastic read by Minka Kent! She just never disappoints. The characters were rock solid and kept me totally engaged starting to finish. This book was filled with secrets and lies. It was impossible to know who to trust.
Thank you NetGalley and Minka Kent for the opportunity to read and review this gem of a book.

This was fast paced and a quick read. It was previously published before and does seem kinda of that time. I read this in one sitting it was that addicting and I loved the reveal at the end.

This book will be so relatable for any of us introverts just trying to find our place. Making a real friend who takes you under her wing is just what’s needed, right? At least until dirty little secrets start to surface and you’re caught in the middle of something unimaginable.
Thank you to Minka Kent, NetGalley, and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Pretty good book. Was able to get into into. Pretty much guessed it throughout the book. I would recommend it to others though.

Having a roommate can be a great experience or not so much. This was a good solid read l. Left me guessing for sure on this one. Great twist which makes thebook great.
Thanks to the author, the publisher and Netgalley for an early release of this book.

This took a long time to get into. By get into I mean not want to DNF.
I enjoyed The Silent Woman and the writing style, but this reads like it’s not even the same author. The writing felt very basic, the conversations contrived, unnatural.
All of the 2D characters were unlikable for me.
I thought I wanted to read the backlist after TSW, but TPR makes me rethink that.
With thanks to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for the advance digital copy of the re release.
2.75*

This was a fun, engaging psychological thriller that kept me hooked from the start. The Perfect Roommate draws you in with its tense, uneasy friendship between Meadow and Lauren, and the slow reveal of their hidden secrets was perfectly paced—for most of the book.
I loved the buildup and the suspense, and Minka Kent does a great job of making you question who you can trust. However, the ending felt rushed and a bit abrupt, leaving me wanting a little more closure after such a strong setup.
Still, if you’re looking for a fast-paced, twisty read about friendship, deception, and hidden agendas, this one is definitely worth picking up!

I read this book in one sitting because I couldn't put it down! Loved the characters and the plot twists. This is a fast-moving story that definitely kept me guessing as to what was going to happen the entire time. It's not a super "deep" thriller, but it's a fun palate cleanser and I always enjoy books by Minka Kent, so I knew I wouldn't be disappointed with this thriller!

This book kept me hooked from the very beginning. I loved Meadow's personality. It was a super fast paced and entertaining story. The problem was the ending. It was unrealistic and felt very rushed. It's not something I'll remember for a while or recommend to everyone, but it was definitely entertaining!

This was my first book by Minka Kent and I just loved it.
I read the book in one sitting as I was unable to put it down. I enjoyed the characters as well as the twists and turns and the ending. I look forward to reading more of her books.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

This was a great book! The storyline started out very interesting, and pulled me in right away. As I got further into the book, it definitely picked up speed, and continued to hold my interest. A lot of twists were thrown in that I wasn't expecting, and the ending was fantastic! I overall enjoyed this book, and would recommend to other readers!

I thought this book was interesting. It is a quick read that I got through in 2 days. It’s about two girls one looking for a roommate one looking for a room. It’s a friendship based on lies which ends in one of their downfalls. Who is going to end up in the orange jumpsuit at the end of the day?

The Perfect Roommate was a fast paced thriller! Minka Kent has done it again. I’ve loved all of her books! The first half of the book didn’t seem like a thriller, but it definitely held my interest and then “Bam” things got crazy and Twisty! I thought I had some things figured out, but I was way off! Loved this book!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC!

The Perfect Roommate is a fast-paced, popcorn thriller that I devoured in 2 sittings. It's perfect for lovers of Mean Girls and Pretty Little Liars.
Meadow is an introverted, socially awkward 22 year old college student who can't seem to catch a break. She's living out of her car after just being evicted, working a job she could careless about just trying to make ends meet when she stumbles across an ad for a room for rent. She then meets Lauren, hits it off with her and they become roommates and headed towards what appears to be the first real friendship Meadow has ever truly had- and Meadow finds herself completely immersed in a lifestyle she never thought she would have and begins to love this new version of who she's becoming.
When Meadow realizes that not everything or everyone is as it seems, it hits her hard. She becomes obsessed with trying to expose her roommate, Lauren, for the lies that, for some reason, Meadow takes extremely personal, and things continue to spiral out of control.
I have to admit, I found Meadow to be insufferable.
Understandably, as 22 year old college students are supposed to embark on a journey to discover who they really are, she adopts all the traits, likes and dislikes of the girls she becomes friends with- yet somehow manages to continue with this self-righteous and morally superior attitude throughout the entire book, and it drove me CRAZY. Like girl, chilllll.
I'm hoping the author meant to write Meadow as an unlikable character, and if so, she nailed it. If you're looking for something that will keep you turning page after page with that, I need to know how this turns out feeling, The Perfect Roommate is the book for you.
