I enjoyed this one, it wasn't my favorite but it did manage to keep me hooked. There were some things missing for me to make it just that bit more memorable, but overall it was a decent suspenseful read.

This book kept me on the edge of my seat and I loved the twists and the turns in the story. I highly recommend this book to mystery lovers.

Thank you to Thomas and Mercer via Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Another quick, fun read by Minka Kent. The twists in this one were somewhat predictable. I found the main character to be slightly annoying and not very likable. She just had something about her that I wasn’t liking. This wasn’t my favorite book of hers but it was definitely worth reading if you want a short thriller.

This is a quick but twisty popcorn thriller. While there were a few predictable parts, overall, this was a fast-paced read full of twists and turns to make the reader think they had it all figured out ... before proving that wasn't the case. I've never read anything by Kent, but the writing style quickly pulled me in. Short chapters and first-person POV keep the reader actively engaged. There's enough suspense and clues along the way to keep the readers guessing throughout. The story is a reminder that if things seem too good to be true, then they probably are. I look forward to reading other books by this author.

Fun, fast- paced, wild turns, and a bit predictable. Still very enjoyable and everything.

Kent's writing is so captivating. Even during lulls in the story I could not put this down. There were so many twists, so many twisted people. I'm still reeling at the curious ending. A great thrilling mystery.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. This is phycological thriller.
Meadow was in desperate need of a room to rent and quick after she was evicted from her last place. She comes across an ad for the perfect place. Her and the roommate become quick friends. Or so it seems.
I definitely didn't see the twist at the end. Was a great book that I couldn't put down.

Rating: 4⭐️/5
A really good, fast paced murder mystery thriller. A bit of a coming of age story where Meadow is dirt poor and finds a roommate. But things aren’t as they seem and a friendship begins to unravel as Meadow becomes involved in her friend’s life, becoming just like her all while navigating her betrayal and being framed for a murder.
Fast-paced and mind-bending. I really enjoyed this one and ate it up!

WHEW. Nothing like a good ol’ Minka Kent novel to pull me out of my reading slump.
I first discovered Minka Kent in 2019 with The Stillwater Girls, and I was absolutely blown away. The way the story flowed and the content was the perfect amount to keep you guessing, but not bore you to tears. The way the characters all had a role to play. No character was there for no reason. The way everything came together at the end.
This book was no different. It was a thrilling literary masterpiece, as every book I have read by her has been.
This was my fifth Kent novel, including a novel written under her pseudonym, and, per usual, I was not disappointed.
A young college senior is looking for a place to live after receiving an eviction notice and having to live out of her car. She sees an ad for someone subletting a room and hurries to get an interview. The person she meets on the other side of 47 Magpie Drive is just as desperate to have someone move in. Soon, against all odds, the two become friends. But how well do they really know each other? And how long before their different worlds cause them to turn on each other?
I loved this book so much. It typically only takes me a couple of sittings to finish one of Minka’s novels anyway, but I feel like I flew through this one even more so than the others I’ve read by her. Once again, that flow she is so excellent at creating and the characters that draw you in and make you think hooked me from the start and kept me going. I am such a thriller snob these days, and I feel like I am the most critical of mystery/thrillers. However, I’m never able to find much to say about Kent’s books when it comes to things I didn’t like. Reading her books is a real treat for me, and she has become one of my top favorite thriller authors.
The pacing of this novel was actually perfect. Right as I began to question what on Earth the big plot point was going to be, BOOM, it happened. From that point on, I was determined to see this book to the end, and I could think of nothing else. When I read a Kent novel, I’m IN it. She has a way of writing so that the content envelops your brain and makes you feel like you’re IN her world. Like I said, a real treat.
This book is everything I look for in a good thriller. It’s got the morally grey characters that you aren’t sure you can trust, it’s got an uncomfortable setting, it builds up suspense, and then it ties everything together in a pretty little bow.
The ending had me rolling my eyes, shaking my head, and giggling, and I honestly couldn’t ask for more. Ughh, it just ties together the entire premise of the book, and I appreciated it so much. Go read it. Go in blind. It’s the best way to go.
I would definitely recommend Minka Kent novels to anyone who enjoys Frieda McFadden or Shari Lapena. I’d say Colleen Hoover as well, but she is a league above Colleen if you ask me. Sorry, not sorry.
Go buy it! Go read it! Go discover your new favorite thriller author!

Holy twist! This second book in the Dangerous Strangers series picks up where Imaginary Strangers left off.
The Prescott family starts a new life in a new neighborhood. Camille believes this is just what she needs; her need to protect her family gets a bit of reprieve, or so she thinks.
This story reminds me of a more evil version of Desperate Housewives, the secrets, the drama and the mind twists are going to keep you glued to the pages.
Be sure to read this story slowly, a lot of clues and hints are throughout the pages to help you figure out the real mystery of the cul-de-sac, and when you get some of the answers, you are going to be absolutely shook! I know I was. I am praying to all the writing spirits that this is not the last book in this series; the ending is going to leave you begging for more! I tip my hat to you, Ms. Kent, for this fabulous thriller!

Another great book by this author. Especially liked the last couple chapters,,, wasn't expecting it to end the way it did. Anyone who reads this will like it as much as I did!!!

Get ready to question everything you think you know about friendship! The Perfect Roommate by Minka Kent is a pulsating psychological thriller that gripped me from the very first page and refused to let go. Seriously, my heart rate is still recovering!
It starts innocently enough: Meadow, a quiet college student, finds the "perfect" roommate in Lauren. Lauren is generous, welcoming, and helps Meadow transform, introducing her to a new, exciting social world.
Beneath the surface of this budding friendship lies a dangerous web of lies and hidden pasts. Meadow and Lauren both harbor secrets, but only one is prepared to commit murder to keep hers buried. Who is the real threat? And who will be the victim?
This book is addictive, cunning, and brilliantly unpredictable. If you're a fan of dark, twisty thrillers that explore the darkest corners of human nature, you NEED this on your shelf!

In The Perfect Roommate, Minka Kent delivers a taut and twisty psychological suspense novel that proves just how dangerous secrets—and new friendships—can be.
When quiet, broke college student Meadow stumbles into the perfect housing arrangement with the effortlessly cool and generous Lauren, it feels like her luck is finally turning. No deposit, no questions, and a roommate who offers clothes, confidence, and a ready-made social life? For someone like Meadow, who’s never quite fit in, it feels too good to be true.
And of course, it is.
As their friendship deepens, it becomes clear that both women are keeping things buried. Kent skillfully builds tension through small, unsettling details—an odd comment here, a moment of emotional distance there—until suspicion begins to bloom. Are they bonding over shared experiences, or something far more sinister?
Clocking in at just over 200 pages, the story moves at a brisk pace, making it easy to read in a single sitting. Kent’s prose is clean and engaging, and she excels at creating an atmosphere of unease where readers are never quite sure who to trust—or what’s coming next.
The final act delivers a satisfying twist that reframes much of what came before without feeling contrived. While fans of darker psychological thrillers may wish for more edge, the novel delivers plenty of suspense and just the right amount of creepiness to keep you hooked.

Minka Kent is one of my favorite thriller authors. The Perfect Roommate has two young women, both needing a roommate, who see in each other a friend and confidant. Both women are showing their best selves, but how long can they maintain it? Full of tension, twists, and OH NO moments, this was a 5 star read for me.

Minka Kent hits another one out of the park. Consistency is hard to find sometimes with authors, Minka is the exception. Flawless delivery on one of the most fast paced, edge of your seat, heart thumping thrillers I have ever read. I was so sure I had this figured out....not only was I wrong but I was floored by the plot twist ending. I actually WOWed out loud. It was so dark and I was not expecting that at all but I was pleasantly surprised. I feel like I might need a psych evaluation because I enjoyed this book so much. Is that a bad thing? I'm not sure.
How i missed this book when it was originally published-I don't know, but I am now following Minka on so many platforms so I'm certain to never miss another book by her again. This will be in my top 10 favorite thrillers of all time. I feel honored to have been selected to read this masterpiece. BRAVO!

Minka Kent has. ot written a bad book in her life and she certainly didn't start now. This was tense, atmospheric, and a real page turner! If you aren't familiar with Minka Kent, you'll want to be!
Thank you and NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy.

An intriguing premise with some uneven execution
The Perfect Roommate starts off strong with a compelling setup and a steady undercurrent of tension. I enjoyed the mysterious atmosphere and the idea of secrets unraveling between close quarters. However, while the plot had potential, the pacing was inconsistent and some character motivations didn’t feel fully developed.
There were definitely moments that kept me hooked, but overall, I was left wanting a bit more depth and urgency. That said, fans of domestic suspense and twisty roommate dramas may still find this one worth the read.

Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas and Mercer for an ARC of the rerelease of The Perfect Roommate!
This twisty thriller will leave readers wondering who to trust! Meadow needs a roommate, and Lauren is the perfect candidate… or maybe she isn’t.
When Lauren drags Meadow out from her quiet, lame life, Meadow begins to really like it. However, Lauren may be keeping secrets bigger than Meadow can imagine.
Will Meadow forgive and forget or will she risk her life unraveling Lauren’s secrets?
This book was exhilarating! The twist at the end is something I did not expect. I also really enjoyed that we never know who the “bag guy” is through out the novel. Solid thriller!

If you're looking for a twisty, psychological thriller that is the perfect summer read, look no further!!
Meadow is a college student with no support system and a mother who consistently puts men before her. Desperate for stability, she responds to a roommate ad and meets Lauren-charming, beautiful, and clearly wealthy.
Drawn in by Lauren's effortless confidence and generosity, Meadow soon finds herself enjoying designer cast-offs, beauty tips, and, for the first time in a long while, genuine companionship.
But everything changes when Meadow uncovers a devastating secret about Lauren—a betrayal so deep it shakes the foundation of their friendship.
As the tension mounts, the story races toward a shocking conclusion that leaves one haunting question: how well do you really know the person you live with?

oh are we ready for a book like this? yes, yes we are because what a twisted and unsettled book we find ourselves reading from start o finish and loving doing so! this book was dark but delicious. the story was told brilliantly and gripped me all the way through. my intrigue was piqued even from the blurb and didn't let up.the book is fast paced and grabs you in right from the off.
the book gives us Meadow who needs somewhere to live. she is desperate for it. its hard enough trying to get through college without coming back to the car instead of a home. thats when she spots the ad for a roommate and she jumps right for it.
Lauren needs a roommate and quickly. Meadow seems perfect for her. and soon the two are getting on and become fast friends. arent they? things start to occur that dont feel right, things are seen that dont sit right. things are becoming darker, tense, and more than messy.
i dont want to give these things away or just what chaotic alleys this goes down with our pair because i want the books gasp privilege to happen for you all. but my word you wont know how glad you are for me leaving it out until you get to those points, and then you'll be gleeful that you got no spoilers.
this is a fab book. the pages and chapters just swept on by and so did daylight!
fab.
