Like everything I’ve read from Minka Kent, I loved this book. Meadow is broke and looking for a new place to live when one of her classmates, Lauren, lists her spare bedroom for rent. Things spiral into obsession and murder and it’s really hard to see any of the twists coming. The ending and the change of heart that makes it possible come on a little quickly but all of the loose ends are satisfyingly tied up and the ending absolutely leaves you wanting more.

Good quick thriller. I actually read this book in 2023. ( not sure why it says that it is coming out in 2025)

Another fantastic read by Minka Kent! She just never disappoints. The characters were rock solid and kept me totally engaged starting to finish. This book was filled with secrets and lies. It was impossible to know who to trust.
Thank you NetGalley and Minka Kent for the opportunity to read and review this gem of a book.

This book will be so relatable for any of us introverts just trying to find our place. Making a real friend who takes you under her wing is just what’s needed, right? At least until dirty little secrets start to surface and you’re caught in the middle of something unimaginable.

Thank you to Minka Kent, NetGalley, and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Having a roommate can be a great experience or not so much. This was a good solid read l. Left me guessing for sure on this one. Great twist which makes thebook great.

This took a long time to get into. By get into I mean not want to DNF.

I enjoyed The Silent Woman and the writing style, but this reads like it’s not even the same author. The writing felt very basic, the conversations contrived, unnatural.

All of the 2D characters were unlikable for me.

I thought I wanted to read the backlist after TSW, but TPR makes me rethink that.

With thanks to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for the advance digital copy of the re release.

This was a fun, engaging psychological thriller that kept me hooked from the start. The Perfect Roommate draws you in with its tense, uneasy friendship between Meadow and Lauren, and the slow reveal of their hidden secrets was perfectly paced—for most of the book.

I loved the buildup and the suspense, and Minka Kent does a great job of making you question who you can trust. However, the ending felt rushed and a bit abrupt, leaving me wanting a little more closure after such a strong setup.

Still, if you’re looking for a fast-paced, twisty read about friendship, deception, and hidden agendas, this one is definitely worth picking up!

I read this book in one sitting because I couldn't put it down! Loved the characters and the plot twists. This is a fast-moving story that definitely kept me guessing as to what was going to happen the entire time. It's not a super "deep" thriller, but it's a fun palate cleanser and I always enjoy books by Minka Kent, so I knew I wouldn't be disappointed with this thriller!

This book kept me hooked from the very beginning. I loved Meadow's personality. It was a super fast paced and entertaining story. The problem was the ending. It was unrealistic and felt very rushed. It's not something I'll remember for a while or recommend to everyone, but it was definitely entertaining!

This was a great book! The storyline started out very interesting, and pulled me in right away. As I got further into the book, it definitely picked up speed, and continued to hold my interest. A lot of twists were thrown in that I wasn't expecting, and the ending was fantastic! I overall enjoyed this book, and would recommend to other readers!

I thought this book was interesting. It is a quick read that I got through in 2 days. It’s about two girls one looking for a roommate one looking for a room. It’s a friendship based on lies which ends in one of their downfalls. Who is going to end up in the orange jumpsuit at the end of the day?

The Perfect Roommate was a fast paced thriller! Minka Kent has done it again. I’ve loved all of her books! The first half of the book didn’t seem like a thriller, but it definitely held my interest and then “Bam” things got crazy and Twisty! I thought I had some things figured out, but I was way off! Loved this book!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC!

The Perfect Roommate is a fast-paced, popcorn thriller that I devoured in 2 sittings. It's perfect for lovers of Mean Girls and Pretty Little Liars.

Meadow is an introverted, socially awkward 22 year old college student who can't seem to catch a break. She's living out of her car after just being evicted, working a job she could careless about just trying to make ends meet when she stumbles across an ad for a room for rent. She then meets Lauren, hits it off with her and they become roommates and headed towards what appears to be the first real friendship Meadow has ever truly had- and Meadow finds herself completely immersed in a lifestyle she never thought she would have and begins to love this new version of who she's becoming.
When Meadow realizes that not everything or everyone is as it seems, it hits her hard. She becomes obsessed with trying to expose her roommate, Lauren, for the lies that, for some reason, Meadow takes extremely personal, and things continue to spiral out of control.

I have to admit, I found Meadow to be insufferable.
Understandably, as 22 year old college students are supposed to embark on a journey to discover who they really are, she adopts all the traits, likes and dislikes of the girls she becomes friends with- yet somehow manages to continue with this self-righteous and morally superior attitude throughout the entire book, and it drove me CRAZY. Like girl, chilllll.
I'm hoping the author meant to write Meadow as an unlikable character, and if so, she nailed it. If you're looking for something that will keep you turning page after page with that, I need to know how this turns out feeling, The Perfect Roommate is the book for you.

DISCLAIMER #1: It is important to know that this story is a REVISED edition of the original that was published January 19, 2018)

This book was just ..... weird. There is no other way of putting it.

First we have Meadow, who when we first meet her comes across as this desperate, willing to do anything to please young woman. Then we meet Lauren, who is well-off and the polar opposite of Meadow, but who quickly takes her under her wing (in more ways than one). At first it seems to be a power play - Lauren gives Meadow her cast off designer clothes that somehow fit perfectly despite them being described as having entirely different body types. Then she's paying for Meadow to get her hair done, and introducing Meadow to her friends.

But then suddenly the script seems to flip and now Meadow is going around stealing things that don't belong to her (and somehow justifying it) just so she can keep up with this lavish lifestyle that she has somehow gotten used to in a matter of weeks. This gave me pause as anyone who had grown up as poor as she supposedly did, would not be indulging in such frivolous purchases once a little bit of money came their way.

From here on out the story quickly becomes one of Meadow working her job (and resenting it) while she builds a friendship with one of her clients (which in and of itself was a red flag considering she said they weren't allowed to accept gifts of any kind and therefore worried about losing her job when her employer made her a cup of tea, but this is a detail quickly forgotten as the story progressed).

But then it spirals. And by the time you reach the end (if you're like me) you're sitting there in equal parts 'really?' and 'what the heck?' as NOTHING about it makes sense. If I had been several years younger (college age like these characters), this one might have worked better for me, but as it stands it was all fluff with no substance. To be honest, I'm not even sure what Meadow's "secret" was other than the fact she has no personality of her own.

On the plus side, it was a quick read that I finished in a day so if you're looking for something to pass the time on a rainy day, this one might be for you.

DISCLAIMER #2: I received a complimentary copy of this novel from the publisher. This has not affected my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are 100% my own.

WOW! This is one of the best psychological thrillers I have ever read. It follows Meadow, the main character, as she goes from being a quiet, studious, hardworking, overlooked by the popular crowd college student to an attractive girl who has pretty friends and a busy social life. The author does a great job of characterization showing this astonishing metamorphosis in believable detail.

The plot kept me hooked until the end with some very unexpected twists and turns involving the pretty people, and it comes to a what I thought was a neatly wrapped up ending: however, a bit more remains to be seen.
