This was my first read by Nisha J. Tuli. I'd been looking forward to reading her Artefacts of Ouranos series. And was surprised myself when I got approved for nfsw's alc.

Loved the narrator, she did a fantastic job!!! Tris was soooo relatable, and for once I enjoyed a contemporary even though it wasn't exactly an original storyline. After a quarter through the book, it got a bit cheesy and cringey. Even though I enjoyed the rest, Tris got a bit annoying at the end, but whatever. Anyway, really loved the ending. Rafe is surprisingly one of my fav mmcs in contemporary now. I really implore everyone to check this out.

Trish has been working for WMC for the past 5 years but has never gotten a promotion. Rafe is the boss’s son and does not get along with Trish. Trish won a trip to Maui for 3 weeks for a corporate retreat and guess who ends up with her on her 1st class trip, Rafe! When checking in the hotel, they were booked a honeymoon suite and had no choice but to stay in the same room the whole trip. They tried to avoid each other but end up spending time together during the corporate retreat and falling in love.

Tropes: Enemies to lovers, close proximity, rom com, workplace romance, one bed

This was a spicy one! Not safe for work definitely fits the name of the book. Trish and Rafe had really good chemistry! I loved it! The narrator did an awesome job!

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me this audiobook in exchange for my honest review!

The audiobook was so entertaining! This is a rivals to lovers with A LOT of tension that’ll leave you giggling and kicking your feet by the time you’re done reading 🤭 As expected, there’s so much miscommunication and assumptions and with the single POV of the FMC I found it difficult to empathize with her confusion and frustration about her relationship with the MMC knowing an easy conversation would have solved so much lol I would still absolutely recommend this book. There are important topics covered including workplace sexual harassment, misogyny, and how hard women, specifically women of color have to fight in the corporate world.

Thank you NetGalley for a copy of this 🎧 ARC.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4. I’ll be honest, I had a little trouble getting into this one, at first . I’m glad I stuck it out though. Trishara really faced a lot of challenges. She dealt with a great deal of blatant misogyny. But I was proud of how she handled it in the end and stood up for herself. I thought the whole thing where she demanded a suite and new luggage was a bit much but she shouldn’t have been passed over for promotions. She was clearly good at her job and that should have made a difference. I really enjoyed the banter between Trishara and Rafe. The entire idea of a 3 week corporate retreat in Hawaii sounds amazing and she met some amazing people but even there the company they worked for was horrible to women. I felt like some of the transitions weren’t as smooth as they could be. The narrator did a wonderful job but I feel like I might have enjoyed this one a bit more as an ebook instead of an audiobook. I do hope to read more by this author.

3⭐️ I enjoyed this one. Forced proximity was great. Haven’t read a lot of work place romances. It was fun to dip into that trope. The procrastination of one particular conversation felt a little too much. Plus, the FMC not trusting and then trusting went back and forth a lot for me.

Tris and Rafe have to go to on a business training program. The plus is it’s in a tropical paradise. The negative is that the rooms got mixed up and now they have to share a single bed room. Because Rafe getting her hard earned promotion wasn’t enough. Now she can’t get away from him. As they continue in the training and personal time, they both can’t help but feel more and more drawn to each other. Will it be worth crossing that professional line or will it be a disaster.

Thank you @netgalley and Hachette Audio for the advanced listener copy.

Thank you NetGalley for approving me for this ARL!

I am NOT a romance girlie, but I ate this book up! I loved the diversity in this story and the fact that BIPOC women have been know to deal with similar scenarios in their work life is crazy!
I loved the romance in this, it didn't feel forced or cringy at all! And the ONE BED TROPE and the TENSION had me on the edge of my seat!
Def recommend this book!

📚 Book Review: Not Safe for Work by Nisha J. Tuli
✨ Genre: Contemporary Romance
📖 Page Count: Not sure
📅 Date Finished: 25 May
📆 Release Date: 20 May

[SPOILER WARNING - I’ve tried not to directly spoil anything, but have probably said a bit too much to read the below without having read the book first…!]

📝 Synopsis (No Spoilers!)
Trishara is in a bit of a work slump, when she ends up getting a coveted spot on her companies’ new three-week tropical retreat in Maui. The only catch? So does her work nemesis - Rafe Gallagher. Expect lots of workplace tea, and lots about the challenges of being a women of colour in a majority male workplace.

💭 First Impressions
This was an eARC from NetGalley (thank you!) And I got it as an audiobook so was listening to snatches on my commute, gardening etc.

There is an early trigger warning, and depressingly the author talks about how she has drawn a lot of inspiration from real-life situations she was in.

Once we got into the meat of the story, I was very there for the setting (beautiful Maui) and the enemies to lovers of it all.

👥 Characters
Trishara. First - what a great name. Second - thank god we’re getting a woman of colour in a mainstream romance. In some ways, Tris feels very authentic and she is usually pretty good at unapologetically standing up for herself despite being beleaguered by a fairly toxic work environment. At some parts in the middle I started to find her a little annoying - I think I wanted her to take more control, and perhaps found it an odd conflict that sometimes she very bravely stands up for herself; and other times she doesn’t? I would’ve loved a little more depth to her inner wants/fears. Yan was a good character and could’ve been explored a bit more, and I loved Molly. Rafe is a fun and pretty swoony love interest - and I like the onion treatment. You don’t know everything upfront, it’s slowly revealed… One caveat - whatever happened to Andy?! I thought the story was leading up to something with him as the bad guy but he sort of just disappears into the ether…

🌍 World-Building / Setting
The setting was SO GOOD. Beautiful Maui was one of the best things about this story. And - frankly - all those familiar conference rooms and personality quizzes are rather familiar so I enjoyed seeing them in there.

✍️ Writing Style
Zippy, pacey, funny. There were a few moments that felt a bit repetitive, e.g. I think quite a few times referring to the “first time” Trishara had felt a certain way.

🔥 Favourite Moments / Quotes
The email. Ifykyk. Who hasn’t wanted to write an email like that at some point!?

🎢 Pacing & Plot
The end was so good, but there were parts in the middle where I would’ve like a bit more pace through the middle sections. But I liked the plot - it keeps pushing forwards.

📚 Overall Thoughts
I really liked this book. I’m reading a few things at a time, but did keep coming back to this one first… neglecting a few other eARCs (I’m sorry! I’ll get round to you eventually!) But I think the reason I liked it so much is Maui, the corporate angles resonate with me, and I thought Rafe was a great enemies to lovers love interest. If you’re on a beach, you’ll love the beach Hawaii vibes. If you work in an office, you’ll chuckle at the windowless conference rooms and maybe find a bit of solace in the micro aggressions Trish and her friends have to put up with. If you like Lana Ferguson and Elle Kennedy, I think you’ll like this.

OMG THIS WAS SO GOOD! I have only ever read Nisha's romantasy books, so I didn't know what I was going into reading NSFW; but right from the beginning, I was hooked! The narrator did such a fabulous job! Tris and Rafe's story really stole my heart. I appreciate how Nisha both highlights the career barriers experienced by women of colour in the fields of STEM, as well as the difficulties men encounter when wanting to explore careers outside of business or STEM.

Tris is such a frigging badass - she is not afraid to stand up for herself and speak her truth, demonstrating her courage; but at the same time, she shows us a different form of courage by being vulnerable with Rafe and her friends. And Rafe is now my new book boyfriend - besides being sexy af, he is sweet, thoughtful, confident and creative. I appreciate Nisha humanizing both characters by highlighting their flaws, as well as their growth throughout the storyline.

NSFW is a delicious blend of enemies/rivals-to-lovers, slow burn, and forced proximity. I'm always a sucker for this mix of tropes, as well as when there is an added one bed trope. Would definitely recommend this as a fun summer read or a palette cleanser from heavy fantasy reads.

Thanks so much to the author and Forever for the ALC!

I can’t believe this was my first book by Nisha J. Tuli! It definitely won’t be my last. I loved the setting (Maui? Yes, please) and storyline, humor, and the banter, tension, and chemistry between Rafe and Trishara. There are some heavier topics/themes throughout, dealing with racial and gender inequalities in the workplace, that I could relate to as far as being a female in a male dominated industry goes. There was great character development, and I loved how everything came together.

🎧The audiobook is narrated by Soneela Nankani, and her portrayal of the characters was perfection. She truly brought Trishara to life for me! She nailed the comedic and romantic aspects, thr sarcasm, as well as the parts that take on a more serious tone, it was all beautifully done.

I have never read a book or listened to a book from Nisha J tuli and was really looking forward to this one but the story fell flat due to a lack in regards to the characters, in order to really get into a book you want to connect with the characters and their story which was hard to do as you never really got to know them that well throughout and there story of going from rivals to lovers felt rushed

However I loved that they touched on sexsism/gender issues within the work place as this is still something that very much exist what ever your skin colour
Also really like the cover of the book its beautifully illustrated

I was gifted an audiobook ARC of this book through Netgalley and a physical ARC of this book from Forever. I physically read the first 7 chapters and then finished the book via audiobook format. I voluntarily read it and am leaving an honest review.

I love everything Nisha J Tuli writes and this was no exception. The tension and pining were exquisite. Loved this book and the characters were amazing. As a chronic migraine sufferer myself I related to her migraine experience so much.

The audiobook is really well done. I enjoyed the narration and had no audiobook complaints.

Tris and Rafe’s work place enemies to lovers is about a woman of trying to get promoted and better herself but shes over look always is it the color of her skin? That she's a woman? or the boss keeps promoting his Son and nephew over anyone? If you picked all of above you would be correct. But when a quota needs filled and she gets picked for a retreat with other branches of the company she plans on crushing Rafe and the other men. What turns out to be epic story of mix ups and how far are you will to go and what will you do to protect yourself.

Thank you netgalley for this audio arc in exchange for my honest opinions.

This book is precisely what you would expect a workplace rom-com to be—tension, spice, banter, all with the bonus of a Hawaiian retreat.

The tension and chemistry between Trishara and Rafe were so good! I loved their bickering but didn't feel they were true rivals. Each moment they shared felt like it held a charged energy behind it. I adored Rafe and thought he was just the sweetest little cupcake of a man.

Trishara is so intelligent and driven. It was easy to feel and share her emotions when she faced sexism, misogyny, and racism throughout the book. I enjoyed how she developed into a woman who put herself first and stood her ground. However, I just could not connect with her desire to work in corporate America.

The narration was dynamic and really brought Trishara to life. It was easy to listen to and progressed quickly. The characters were distinguishable, and the transitions between chapters were fluid.

This book illuminates many vital issues in the workplace, especially those that POC women face. It was done tastefully, emphasizing the need for change and how people can grow complacent, especially in a male-dominated field. It was a realistic portrayal of corporate work-life.

If you enjoy workplace romance, this is a read you will love.

Thank you Netgalley and Hatchette Audio for this alc!

This romcom unfolds in the picturesque setting of Hawaii, using the island’s vibrant atmosphere to enhance the storyline. The narrative follows a workplace romance that gradually develops amid a series of unexpected events, blending humor and heartfelt moments seamlessly. The plot balances lighthearted fun with meaningful interactions, keeping the pace engaging from start to finish.

The characters are well-developed, with believable chemistry that brings authenticity to their evolving relationship. The office setting adds a relatable backdrop, making the story especially appealing to fans of workplace romances. With its combination of comedic situations and tender scenes, the film successfully captures the awkwardness and excitement of falling in love at work.

The Hawaiian setting provides a refreshing change from typical office romance stories, adding an extra layer of warmth and fun to the film. It delivers a charming and entertaining experience that is both sweet and lively.

I had the pleasure of attending the @bookpeople signing event with @nishajtwrites and @alihazelwood this week and it was a joy! Swipe to see me and the besties!

Two workplace enemies find themselves in close proximity on a tropical company retreat that challenges their assumptions—and just might make them to fall for each other.

This book checked all my boxes y’all! Strong feminist vibes. I mean Tris is a smart bold engineer that is not interested in the workplace patriarchy. Rafe is a hottie with impeccable forearms and a heart of gold. What can go wrong on a work retreat?!?! Oh you know ONLY ONE BED! The tension, the banter, the chemistry is perfection! Add a tropical backdrop and you’ve got an awesome summer read! I can’t say enough good things about this one so do yourself a favor and go pick it up today! Not Safe For Work is an absolute masterpiece!

Thank you to @readforeverpub for the eARC - I love being part of the Discover Forever program! Thank you to @hachetteaudio for the gifted audiobook!

I absolutely loved Nisha J. Tuli’s Artifacts of Ouranos series, I read the first three books in quick succession and not so patiently awaited the series finale: Tale of The Heart Queen. I’d be remiss not to say I appreciated the small nod to this series in NSFW!

When I found out that Nisha J. Tuli would be publishing a contemporary romance I was ecstatic! One of my favorite authors writing in one of my fave genres?!

Not Safe For Work was a lot of fun - the setting (gorgeous Hawaii and only one bed?!?) was perfection! I’m not usually one for workplace romance but this taking place away from the work setting and being inspired by Nisha J. Tuli’s own career (and the bullsh*t women face in tech fields in general) made me a fan. I really enjoyed Rafe’s character and I found the chemistry between him and Trishara electric. This was fun, quick read with great tropes. If you loved the Artifacts of Ouranos series (or Nisha J. Tuli’s other books) and/or steamy romance, this is for you!

I thought the audio book of this was great but unfortunately I got halfway through and just wasn’t vibing with the story!

I felt there were too many inconsistencies with the MFC personality and felt like the story lacked depth. This very well may have been a me problem or just a timing problem!
