This book is an inspiration for young black and brown girls who may have an interest in the sport of tennis. Venus and Serena Williams were coached by their father until they started making a name for themselves in the local junket. It highlights all of their accomplishments on the tennis court, and one that I would highly recommend.

This biography is part of the "Black Trailblazers in Sports" series covering the career of both Venus and Serena Williams. Most information is about their success on the court. I wish each of the sisters was given their own text within the series to capture more of their life and success as individuals and not just as a duo. An easy to read biography to read in a short time to gain an overview of their lives. For grades 4-7 as the book also suggests. Information in the beginning aligns the text to learning standards as well. A potential use for biography projects but may not provide enough information on each of them individually. For school and public libraries.

I absolutely love the story of these sisters. It's hilarious to me that they were each other's biggest rivals at their height, while continuing to win doubles tournaments. One year they were both ranked number one in the world, at different times!
But of course it's their legacy that's most important, as trailblazers for women and for people of color. They continue to inspire and I'm glad I got to learn more of their story.
