I am guessing that this book is more for KS 1 students as the information contained is rather elementary. The market is rather satiated with books of this genre, so it will be hard for this to stand out.

In the style of a magazine, this short guide gives lower elementary level students information and activities to use on winter walks. Content includes animals, weather, and plants, with activities scattered throughout and a short log to document walks in the back.

My 6 year old loves these "Backpack Explorer" books and has several hard copies that contain stickers and a magnifying glass! He enjoyed looking through this one and getting some ideas for when we have a big snow in Winter! These books are fun, informative, and engaging for little nature explorers.

Winter Walk is a love letter to winter, encouraging little ones and young readers to explore it with activities and fun facts.
It is easy to follow and well designed.
The ideal target group would be 5-9 year olds in my opinion.
One constructive criticism; the information and activities show a good range. They are varied. This is also a bit of downside if you have an older reader who wants more depth in some topics and more focus. Perhaps, another book or series for older ones?

This is a highly thorough and well-designed book all around! The main thing that I want to applaud is the impressive amounts of detail, creativity, and uniqueness this book has. It was such a clever idea to include light and water sections, because they're not themes that you see in kids' nature books that often. Additionally, everything in this book was explained really well, and in an age-appropriate way. Young readers will truly learn so much from this book and will feel inspired to explore the natural, wintry world around them. Lastly, I love how interactive this book is! Readers don't just learn about nature, they are provided with various activities and ideas that they can apply to their own lives in the colder months.
Overall, bravo!!

Backpack Explorer: Winter Walk is a delightful hands-on guide that invites young readers aged 4 to 8 to explore the wonders of winter. Packed with interactive field guides, scavenger hunts, and outdoor games, it encourages children to observe frost, animal tracks, and winter birds, while learning about hibernation and the winter solstice. The inclusion of a real magnifying glass, 50 stickers, and a pull-out journal adds to the engaging experience. This book is a perfect companion for young adventurers eager to discover the magic of the season.

We love this series! This is a great addition to the Backpack Explorer series, perfect for winter. It encourages kids to step outside and explore the wonders of winter through engaging activities and observations.
The book is packed with interactive elements, including stickers, field guides, and scavenger hunts, making it an exciting book to have for any winter outing. Kids can search for frost, snowflakes, and animal tracks, while also learning about the science behind winter, such as how icicles form and which animals hibernate.
I will say, though, that a "real" winter is really needed for this book! Given that we're in Southern California, we are saving this book for when we go on a trip to see snow somewhere. I think it will make the entire experience much more magical for the kids. Other than that, I highly recommend it for families who enjoy outdoor activities and want to make the most of the winter season.
Thank you to the publisher for an eARC of this book.

A fun mix of science and the outdoors. The photographs are fun, and the text is accessible. There are activities that kids of all ages could get into. The text is probably best for younger elementary school kids, but it could appeal to reluctant readers too.
Thank you for the ARC. I will purchase for my library and look into the rest of the series.
