Chimera Weaver Book 1 by Vaun Murphrey

398 Pages
Publisher: Artemis Femme
Release Date: March 10, 2015

Fiction, Sci Fi, Fantasy, Texas, Survivalist Group

Cassandra is 13 years old and has been held captive and given the silent treatment for 8 years. Her uncle Jerome finds her in the web and brings her home. His wife, Maggie, is a doctor and helps train Cassandra in connecting in the web using her mind.

She meets Melanie, a teacher, when she is tested on general knowledge and gets a perfect score. While there she also meets James. He is 15 and has a sister, Cara, that is lost in the web. Maggie and the nurses hold little hope that she will recover. When an alarm begins blaring warning of an intruder, medical staff find Cara missing. Once she is found, it is apparent she is aware of her surroundings. She seems drawn to Cassandra but doesn’t know why. When Cara touches her, Cassandra has a weird sensation. She hears a voice in her head. It turns out it is her twin, Silver. They though Cassandra was a Weaver when, in fact, she is a Chimera. With Silver’s knowledge, Cassandra is growing in strength and wants to be a leader.

The book has a steady pace, the characters are somewhat developed, and it is written in the first-person point of view.

There is a scene in the beginning book that is disturbing. A man violates Cassandra, and his obvious pleasure is horrifying. There should be a trigger warning on this and although it would be a good teen and young adult series, I cannot recommend it as one.

Thank you for the arc, unfortunately I did not finish it, I just wasn't the right audience for this book.

I was hooked from the first few pages. Something fun and exciting happened in every chapter. I loved each character and can't wait to see what happens next.

I had such high hopes for this book! The overall plot was okay, but some of the scenes felt rushed and switching settings was a bit jarring in places. I'll still check out the sequel

This a different complex but addictive phenomenal story that had me ready for the second one as soon as I finished it.

I started this book with high hopes and was excited about the subject. I felt unable to connect with the characters in the first chapters and kept finding my mind wandering all, over the place while attempting to read the book. I tried a few times, but wit such a struggle to even concentrate, I cold not imagine being able to leave a good review of the book so stopped the chore of reading shortly after beginning.

Perhaps it just wasn't my kind of book.

I couldn't really finish this I'm sorry! It dragged quite a bit and the pace was slow for a longer book. I feel like this didn't need to be that long. I also feel that I just wasn't invested in the world building as much as I wanted to be. I enjoy fantasy books but I'm quite picky so I think this could have been me and not the book but I just couldn't finish it because I found myself not wanting to pick it up and reading is for enjoying. I would recommend if people don't like a fast paced story and like to be told everything in slow motion but it just wasn't for me!
