I would have loved to give this book to managers I have encountered. I would gift it actually but the title would expose my ultimate motive.
Manage Yourself to Lead Others delves in on how to be a better a leader by looking at your actions and improving them. I believe this book would've benefited from a workbook. However, to keep people who need to read it focused I can understand while all the questions and self assessment need to stay in the book. If you sit and answer the questions as directed and give them fair considerations you would really walk away with some tools and better insight into how effectively guide the best out of people you lead. I would advise making sure to allocate about 20 minutes after a reading session to addressing the questions presented. Just add it to the reading time. Ultimately I found this book very informative and a very helpful tool in my understanding of leadership.

As a new leader in a healthcare organization, I was looking for something that teaches leadership with a self-reflective and empathetic lens. Margaret Andrew’s experience appealed to me, as did her recognition that effective and positive leadership requires leaders to literally “manage themselves.” This is one I can see myself returning to as my leadership journey continues.

What drew me to the book was the extensive experience of Margaret C Andrews as a seasoned executive, academic leader, and instructor at Harvard University. She has created and taught various leadership courses and professional programs, and is the founder of the MYLO Center, a leadership development firm. So I was sure that the book was packed of valuable information.
Andrews posits that effective leadership starts with self-awareness. By understanding the people, ideas, and events that have shaped one's worldview, leaders can better manage themselves, lead others, collaborate with superiors, and make informed decisions. The book offers practical insights, reflective questions, and actionable strategies to help readers identify their leadership style, recognize behavioral patterns, and develop new capabilities.
For those seeking a leadership guide that emphasizes self-understanding as the foundation for leading others, this book may offer valuable insights and practical tools.
