SUPER Body is an informative health book with a focus on gut biome. A concept, new to me, was the introducing more fermented foods. Having recently started to eat more protein and less carbs, I see value in Dr. Davis’ research and guidance.

The author Dr. Davis is a renowned cardiologist. He know’s what he’s talking about and explains his research in detail. He’s written several books, Wheat Belly, Super Gut and now Super Body a 3 week program to restoring your body closer to good health. So where does this book go ? Gut biome, it’s all in the gut, it starts and ends there. If your gut biome is off, everything else will be too.
His program is strict, it is very low carb, high protein, high fermented foods, there are many everyday food items to avoid. No wheat, no grain, no corn, no sugar, seed oils which seems extreme and felt like it to me while I was reading it. I’m a vegetarian so most of my diet would be gone. Or I’m just not willing to give up my wheat ? Both. But I will follow many of his suggestions on getting my biome back and have already started some ferments.
There are recipes for getting that good stuff back into your system and a list of supplements to help too.
I think this is a good book for anyone wanting to turn their system around and maybe lose some weight. If nothing else the education offered here is invaluable.

I’ve read a few of William Davis’s previous books like Wheat Belly and Super Gut, and SUPER Body continues his streak of offering eye-opening and science backed health advice that actually feels doable. This book is a total mindset shift if you’ve been stuck in the diet culture loop of counting calories or relying on meds and quick fixes. SUPER Body reframes the conversation entirely around body composition, microbiome health, and ancestral nutrition. Davis makes a strong case that real, sustainable health isn’t about losing pounds at any cost, but about rebuilding muscle, healing your gut, and nourishing your body the way nature intended. His three week program is packed with practical guidance, but also dives into fascinating new science that doesn’t feel overwhelming. If you’re tired of fads and want something that actually supports long term wellness, this book is well worth reading. It’s a refreshing, empowering approach that makes you feel like you’re finally working with your body, not against it.

So, I want to preface this review by saying I like Dr. Davis and his ideas. I disagreed with some things in this book but overall, I see the points he was trying to make.

I did find this book to be incredibly repetitive. He kept talking about one specific microorganism over and over and he used repeated phrases like "people are repulsed by organ meats, people won't eat organs, etc.". I get that he's trying to emphasize his opinion but it just got annoying.

I was disappointed about the lack of discussion about inflammation, glucose, fasting, and exercise. I feel like those would've been good to include in a book about body composition. There were a few other things that bothered me from a metabolic health standpoint but this book doesn't claim to be a low carb book, so I digress.

So overall, there was some good information in this book but I was annoyed with the repetition and felt like the application of this program wasn't very clear or realistic.
