Hardinge is able to tell fantasy stories that feel new every time. I was fascinated by the scraps of leftover civilization surviving amongst the encroaching forest. Feather manages to be a well rounded character, even with a spare introduction, and almost no backstory. The illustrations add a misty fantasy to the descriptions. I enjoyed this read very much.
