Thank you Net Galley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!
First, I want to say that the cover art and the art throughout the book is lovely and really helps visualizing what is going on!
Stripped down to the bare bones, this story could be really interesting if fleshed out a bit more.
Unfortunately, the writing style (lots of “I did this, and then I did this”) and complete lack of character depth and growth are preventing me from fully loving the book as is. While I also understand that this is an ARC and not the final copy, it was also riddled with typos and grammar mistakes.
There were many details that really could have been expanded upon with a bit more lore and world building. Something would happen and then suddenly we were on to the next thing with no real transition.
And the end? Am I missing a chapter? If I read the acknowledgements right, there will be a sequel, which is needed since it is obvious the story isn’t complete but the end to this book was more like dropping off a cliff instead of a cliffhanger.
I would love to re-read after some more thorough editing and world and character building!

Thank you Netgalley for this ARC.
I was a little concerned about this book because it was "third in the series" but it really is a standalone novella, like all the others. Apparently the first book "Wardenclyffe" uses some of the "found footage" from this book and that might be a fun followup.
First off, I want to say I enjoyed this book. It's marked as YA but reads much younger. I ended up reading it as middle grade and I feel that set the expectations and increased the enjoyment.
I had a hard time with the main character Olivia. She's very energetic, adventurous and extremely extroverted, to the point where there was zero awkwardness even when starting a new school in a new city. That was refreshing since usually those characters are awkward and shy. This helped her quickly befriend Ava.
On the other hand, her extroverted-ness was pushy and her sense of adventure reckless. These really help push the story forward since she's always "getting into danger" but made me a little uncomfortable.
The main thing that bothered me was, like much middle grade, there very much was a "where are the parents/adults". And when bad stuff did happen, parents and Olivia completely brushed it off. Avoiding spoilers, it was very and all she got was grounded and instead of analyzing what she did or learning anything from it, her main concern is her girlfriend Ava and how they aren't speaking.
Ignoring Olivia and her navel-gazing (again, very middle-grade-y so not entirely faulting that), I enjoyed the wirld and the mysteries and would love to know more about June and the mysterious Wardenclyffe world. The novella was too short for all the worldbuilding that it could have, but that's why there's more books.

This story was amazing! I loved every moment of it. The author is really great at describing settings and actions in a way that you can really picture them.
As someone who doesn’t read much sci-fi this feels very accessible. It’s easy to understand but still embraces those sci-fi elements.
I highly recommend checking out this beautiful sci-fi YA romance

This reads more like a conceptual draft than a completed work. While the worldbuilding was enjoyable; the illustrations added a nice touch, especially when I was starting to get as lost as Olivia.
Character development and the relationship between Olivia and Ava were spotty. Why didn't anyone try stopping Olivia from "getting into dangerous stuff", only to ground her after the fact? Why is Olivia sympathetic towards androids and yet apathetic to the real damage around her?
Overall, the book started strong, but fizzled oit too quickly.

The story felt flat at times. I found myself wanting to know about the characters and who they were. I did like the descriptive imagery and the pictures that were found in each chapter. The pacing was good for a children’s story but I just wish there was more of the story in general. I wanted to know more about the town, the characters, and all the questions Olivia didn’t have answers to.

Thank you Net Galley for this ARC!
I could feel the cold, mysterious atmosphere right from chapter one. I liked the illustrations in each chapter which amplified that atmospheric feel of a chilly, somewhat lonely town. The prose was very easy to follow which let me flow through this book in two days.
I liked the concepts in this book: a mystery surrounding androids in a new town our main character Olivia must uncover while completing a school project and meeting the people of June. The execution could have been done better. I often found myself wanting more emotion from the characters, especially in dialogue. I would often ask myself: how are they asking that question or saying that phrase? I also didn't get fully invested into the romance, partly because of the characters not being emotive in dialogue, but the romance happens suddenly. I know the romance is not the main plot, but it felt placed, not integrated, into the story.
I like when stories "show don't tell" the story, but this book does exactly the opposite, telling the reader everything via dialogue. I know it is a quick book to read and the plot has to move fast, but more of the dialogue could have been cut and more exposition to describe the environment and emotions of the characters would be more beneficial. I thought some plot points would take longer to resolve, but nearly every few pages a certain mystery will just be forgotten or solved in a very simple way. The end of this book wrapped up much too quick and I had a lot of questions about the androids and Olivia's family.

Thank You, Net Gallery for this arc!
Unfortunately this book wasn't for me, I had a hard time and found myself have a hard time following along with this story line. I hope this book will resonate with other people than it did with me.

This book was hard to get through. I was confused through most of it. I think i would have benefited from reading the other books first but I still wouldn't have enjoyed this story much, it wasn't my style.
The cover and pictures were lovely.

i won’t lie, but i have not finished this book. i think something was lacking. i think the concept is great and i have not read anything similar before, but something was missing. i didn’t feel like picking it up at all /:
but thank you for the opportunity!

This book was a bit hard for me to get my teeth into. I found the prose to be rushed and difficult to understand. There is a kernel of a story here, but the execution does not pull through.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange of an honest review.
This book just didn’t do it for me, I found the writing childish with too many exclamation points and “ok”, “yeah”, “totally” which made it seem like fanfiction.
There was no character development and the main character was too annoying and loud even through the page. The world building was non-existent and I didn’t get the concept at all.
It looks like this book is part of a larger series so maybe it would have been more enjoyable had I read the previous books.

To start with I wanted to say that I didn’t realise this was the third book in a series. That being said I feel like it was readable as a standalone. I’m just not sure if it would have been more enjoyable having read the previous books to understand any references.
I enjoyed this book and the fact that the reader was in the same boat as the narrator. We didn’t know anything she didn’t know and that added a level of interest. I especially enjoyed that it didn’t answer all of our questions, it was a refreshing change to everything being neatly wrapped up that you find in other stories (although if you don’t like open ended books this one may not be for you!).

This was a really cute book that shows the need of adventure in your teenage years. It is an interesting take on the future with their use of androids and what happens to AI. Wishing I read it after it is published because I want the next book now! I want to discover what Olivia and Ava discover next

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an arc of this book.
I’m quite confused by what I just read. You clearly understand it’s in the future, but a lot of dates are thrown around and in the end, you don’t know for sure what year it is. The writing and dialogue was very childish and it made it hard to enjoy for mature readers. Perhaps younger readers would enjoy the book, but I didn’t. I did enjoy the illustrations in each chapter, I thought this was a great touch.
Other than that, there wasn’t much world building and I couldn’t understand where the story was going. It’s disappointing as the summary of the book seemed right up my alley.

I did unfortunately DNF this book, I really did not enjoy much about it at all. I found the writing really hard to follow along with.
The characters also felt really young and that didn’t help with me connecting with them.

I won’t lie I definitely pick this up because of the cover which is gorgeous!
From what I understand Edelweiss is part of a series but can be read as a standalone. With that in mind I still found it a bit confusing.
It wasn’t really a book for me but I think it could be cool for younger readers

I wanted to love this but the writing style just wasn’t for me. There was a bit of a disconnect between the lack of emotion in the writer’s voice and the love and tenderness put into the world, something just didn’t quite match up there for me. So, regrettably I had to DNF. I would usually give a lower score but I could see the love put into this book. Not for me, but might be for others.
2.5 stars, rounded up to 3.

Edelweiss is a book that is good if you're expecting something light, nice and cozy.
The world in which the action takes place is actually really interesting, and is the main reason I kept reading. I was truly fascinated by how it all looked and worked, and it was a pleasure to get to know it more.
The characters feel, well, simple. But lovable. I don't really think it's a flaw here.
I have to say that not only the world building, but the writing itself in this book is also quite pleasant. Simple, but in a good way. Of course, some would prefer a different kind of language for a book like this one, expecting perhaps something complicated, more detailed, and having the reader think a lot about what they are reading, yet I'm not complaining. It suits the story.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with how it all played out.
3.5/5⭐

Man, I really wanted to love this one but I just didn’t get into it. The writing was very robotic, and lack luster. I had a hard time following what was happening, the characters really lacked depth, and felt very very juvenile.
The characters were not relateable nor like able and the plot was a resolved very very quickly.
I did enjoy the illustrations though, I wish more books had this!

What a book. It was certainly a great continuation of the previous two and I hope to see more from Lloyd soon!
