Thank you to NetGalley and Patchwork Press for providing me with this trilogy in egalley format to read and give my honest review. The opinions expressed here are my own.
I'm going to be honest right up front, this one was not for me. I pushed to finish because I wanted to give an honest review. I usually love mermaid stories but this one was hard and a struggle for me.
There was some dragging to the pace. And I think reading them back to back may have slowed me down. My brain got tired.
I couldn't really connect with the FMC. Her third person perspective made it hard to grasp what she was really like. Usually I can do well with third person in fantasy settings, but it just didn't work for me with this one.
The world building of the under water world was interesting and done fairly well. The author spun it to include other species like werewolves, which was different. But the writing had me lost more times than not. Flipping back pages to try and understand exactly what was happening. There was so much telling. I needed more showing from the characters' perspectives to really grasp what was happening.
I'm sure this trilogy would be great for others but it was hard for me to really like it and I came close to not finishing it many times. The new covers are really pretty. But it just was not for me.

The Painted Maidens Trilogy is a bind up of the set The Rising, The Betrayed, and The Taking, plus bonus short story 'How I Met Your Mother'.by Terra Harmony. Overall, I enjoyed this trilogy but I felt like reading it all back to back made it feel a bit long. I thought it dragged in a few parts especially in books 2 and 3. Book 1 was my favorite. This was a decent series about a beautiful underwater world.
The world building in this trilogy was my favorite aspect of the story. The mermaids and mermen world is a beautiful paradise that is slowly dying because the environment and populations of mers are dwindling. Our main character is Serena and with her we go off on a quest to try and help her people out.
Through her adventures she crosses paths with werewolves, who were once the protectors of the mermaids and are now the enemies. I found the whole Mermaids and Werewolves thing a little weird. I wasn't sure how they would naturally cross paths, so I didn't love that aspect of the story.
Overall, I think plot driven readers will enjoy this trilogy. It was just an ok read for me, but I did enjoy the overall plotline.
