OMG OMG OMG This is everything! How can I explain without giving it away. Freddie is flawed, and he is kind of maybe a little evil. He is selfish anyway.
And our protagonist learns of a way to deal with that, although she is way too nice and she has to deal with some stuff first. Also she is not fully aware of Freddie's plans.
The end was perfection.
I loved the bird's perspective too. I was all for that.
The narration was perfect for the story.
You have to listen to this one.

This is my first Sarah Pinborough book, and it won't be my last. Buckle up for a twisty ride that is more likely than most to surprise you in some way/s.

Emily's had a rough time. After suffering a terrible accident, she and her husband, Freddie, move out to the country. Clearly, Emily didn't have the same high school or undergraduate reading list that some of us did because this house is creepy as all get out, and if she were better read, she'd have run immediately. Unfortunately, Emily is missing this information, and to make matters worse, Freddie does not seem entirely trustworthy. Is this misdirection, or is there something really up with him? Don't worry; you'll learn the answers to these and many other questions right alongside the characters.

I read a lot of thrillers and mysteries and love them, so it's not often that I find myself surprised by how things unfold. This was a different experience in a good way. I enjoyed this read a lot and recommend it.
