Hot and cold. Truth and lies. This house might be haunted or maybe it’s just the marriage.

We Live Here Now was my first Sarah Pinborough read and it didn’t disappoint.

The story follows Emily and Freddie, a married couple trying to leave behind a tangled past by moving into a sprawling country manor called Larkin Lodge. Because what could possibly go wrong in a creaky old house with secrets?

Emily, just waking from a coma and navigating the fog of her recovery, is our main narrator. Thanks to the alternating POVs and dual audiobook narration, which I adore, we also get Freddie’s perspective who, like Emily, carries his own secrets. Both are suspicious, both unreliable, and both leave you guessing who is telling the truth and who might be hiding something darker.

The audiobook narration brought the tension to life perfectly making the eerie atmosphere of Larkin Lodge even more immersive and creepy

The house itself feels like a character. Is it haunted? Or is something more sinister at play? The uncertainty is the best part because you’re never quite sure who or what to trust. Every time I thought I had it figured out, Sarah Pinborough flipped the story on its head.

Without giving too much away, I can say this: We Live Here Now is a twisty psychological horror/thriller that will have you questioning not just the house and the marriage but your own assumptions too.

Thank you Macmillan Audio, Net Galley and Sarah Pinborough for this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

It’s a yes for me! 🖤

This was a WILD ride!! We Live Here Now by Sarah Pinborough is a psychological thriller that delves into the complexities of human relationships and the dark secrets that lie beneath the surface. The story revolves around a struggling couple who move to the country for the wife to recouperate following an accident. Almost immediately the wife, Emily, starts to hear sounds in the night that her husband, Freddie, does not hear. I listened to the audiobook and the production was amazing. I had to pause a few times because it was so creepy. Overall, this was an amazing haunted house story with a great twist at the end.

Thank you to NetGalley and Flatiron Books for the advance listening copy in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own.

Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the audiobook!
Narrated by Helen Baxendale; Jamie Glover; Sarah Pinborough

I ate this audiobook up. Baxendale did a fantastic narration. I was easily engaged the entire book.
We Live Here Now is a paranormal thriller. The storyline has some twisty turns that I couldn't have guessed. The characters are semi likeable, sympathetic at least. But the house, Larkin Lodge, is the real star of the show. If I'm being picky, I'd say that I would've liked the book tonbe longer, not that its necessary, I was just enjoying myself.
Now I just need that first/special edition for my trophy shelf... and rereads, but I'd likely pick the audio up again!

Thank you for the ARC. It was an interesting audio book. It is not a book that I would normally try but I enjoyed this one.

I’ve been loving audiobooks lately and have listened to some excellent ones. I was recently received an audio arc of We Live Here Now by Sarah Pinborough from @netgalley and @flatiron and it was my recent listen and I thoroughly enjoyed it. After surviving an accident and illness that nearly killed her, Emily and her husband, Freddie have moved to an old large country house. It should be perfection, but Sarah feels that something is not right with the house. Books fall off the shelves, nails stick out of the floor boards and then disappear, and then there is the presence she feels on the third floor. Is the house haunted or is Freddie right and she is going mad. And then there are the secrets they are both hiding from one another.

I loved this book. A novel that straddles the line between thriller and psychological horror is one of my favorite things and Pinborough has done a fantastic job of straddling that line and keeping the reader deliciously off balance. I never knew where this one was going . And the twist…… amazing!

I am so happy listened to this one on audio. The narrators were incredible, especially the work of Helen Baxendale. It is a wonderfully nuanced performance that added layers of depth to an already wonderful book. I listened to this one in a single day. I just did not want to turn it off. I loved everything about this on. Order this one immediately!

This is one that I would recommend going in blindly as nothing is what it seems. I’m not quite sure what I expected but I absolutely did not expect this story to play out the way it did..

After a terrible accident, Emily wakes up from a coma and has a long road to recovery. She and her husband Freddy moves into a new home for seclusion, but they slowly begin to realize that there are very strange occurrences taking place at this home. This couple also has secrets that they are keeping from each other, but who’s secret is worse?

Enjoyable story that made me want to read more from this author. I enjoyed the dual narration, the narrators did a phenomenal job. Although it wasn’t a book I would consider overly lengthy, it could have possibly been shorter as I found some of the story not fully necessary. Recommend for fans of domestic & paranormal thrillers.. Thank you Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for this advanced listening copy. All opinions are my own.

This is, by far, the best haunted house story I've ever read. Equal parts haunting and heartbreaking, this psychological horror masterfully blends supernatural dread with raw emotional depth. Pinborough’s prose is razor-sharp, her pacing relentless, and the creeping sense of unease lingers long after the final page. A must-read for fans of smart, sophisticated horror. I haven't stopped thinking about it since I finished it.

*Special thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for this digital audio e-arc.*

Looking for a fresh start after a nearly fatal accident, Sarah and her husband move to Larkin Lodge in the English countryside. Typical haunted house behavior commences – cold drafts, books falling from shelves, words appearing on steamy mirrors – and Sarah and Freddy’s secrets chafe at their relationship. The setting, villagers, and the dread throughout kept me hooked. The twist and the ending left me fully satisfied yet unsettled.

We Live Here Now by Sarah Pinborough is everything I want in a haunting psychological thriller. This isn’t just a haunted house story—it’s a slow burn that crawls under your skin and stays there. The writing is atmospheric, the characters are complex, and the plot twist? Jaw-dropping.

Pinborough masterfully blends grief, secrets, and the supernatural into a deeply emotional, eerie, and satisfying story. The house almost becomes a character itself, and I was captivated from the first unsettling moment to the last.

Absolutely chilling, emotionally rich, and beautifully written. I couldn’t stop listening. Five stars!

In We Live Here Now, Sarah Pinborough once again proves why she reigns supreme in the realm of psychological suspense and twisted domestic thrillers. This eerie, layered narrative pulses with dread and intrigue, all set against the backdrop of one woman’s spiraling reality.
After a tragic accident leaves Emily in a coma for three long months, she awakens to a life that feels…wrong. Her once-idyllic marriage is now fraught with tension and secrets. Was her accident truly an accident—or something more sinister? As Emily fights to piece together fractured memories, questions surface: Who can she trust? Is her husband hiding something—or is she simply losing her mind?
Told through multiple points of view, the audiobook masterfully delves into the inner workings of its characters, each more complex and troubled than the last. These shifting perspectives allow listeners to teeter deliciously on the edge of certainty, never quite knowing whom to believe. Every voice is distinct and purposeful, thanks in no small part to the stellar narration. The voice actors bring a clarity and emotional depth to each character that elevate the tension and psychological weight of the story, making it a truly immersive experience.
Pinborough’s storytelling is, as always, razor-sharp and emotionally astute. She laces her prose with just the right amount of menace, while teasing out a twist so chilling and unexpected, it knocks the wind out of you. Just when you think you’ve figured it out—she pulls the rug right out from under you, and then sets the rug on fire for good measure.
We Live Here Now isn't just a ghost story—it’s a dissection of guilt, grief, and the fragile boundary between reality and delusion. It’s haunting without relying on the supernatural, and witty in the darkest, most human of ways.
If you're a fan of psychological thrillers that leave your mind spinning and your heart racing, this audiobook is a must. Sarah Pinborough has done it again—and after this, you’ll be begging for her to do it again and again.
Thank you NetGalley, Macmillan Audio, and Sarah Pinborough for allowing me the opportunity read this advance audiobook copy. It was a pleasure to experience—and an honor to review.

📖 Title: We Live Here Now
🧍‍♀️Author: Sarah Pinborough

This author writes unsettling undertones like no one else. We Live Here Now has a plot of a Thriller but an atmosphere cloaked in Horror. I have honestly never read anything quite like it. It was lyrical. It almost reminded me of Edgar Allen Poe and perhaps this author WAS giving the literary classic author a nod. It was just so clever and well-done, probably her best and she has some on her backlist hard to beat!! The story revolves around life-changing spousal secrets. There is a paranormal element that is done with PERFECTION. I loved the raven POV.
Such an easy one to rate!

We Live Here Now by Sarah Pinborough is an atmospheric psychological thriller with strong writing and a compelling premise. The story creates tension around its eerie setting and complex characters, and Pinborough does a good job building suspense throughout. However, I found many of the twists to be predictable, which dampened the overall suspense for me. While it’s an engaging read, I was hoping for more surprises and a bit more unpredictability to elevate the story. It’s still an enjoyable book, but it didn’t fully deliver on the edge-of-your-seat thrills I was expecting.

Thank you Netgalley and Macmillan audio for an ARC of the audiobook!

The narrators were fabulous! I listened to it in one day, I was hooked from chapter one. I loved the gothic house and all the secrets kept unraveling throughout the book. I enjoyed the supernatural elements in the book and the nods to Poe. Overall it was a great thriller that I really enjoyed!

I liked the concept, I gravitate toward haunted house books The book droned on though and could have used a few edits to keep the story on track. The main characters are not likeable.

Thank you to Netgalley and Macmillan audio for early access to the audiobook in exchange for an accurate review.

This is my first book by Sarah Pinborough (though I have heard amazing things) and it did not disappoint. Also whenever a book has a haunted house in it, I know I have to pick it up.

This book featured two unlikeable characters as they slowly go mad and solve the mystery behind the "haunting" in the upstairs room. Their lives and marriage is in shambles and I enjoyed listening to them slowly descend into madness and succumb to the worst parts of themselves. It was such a fun ride and I loved the twist behind the supposed haunting.

The audiobook itself was of great quality and had wonderful narration by the 3 characters we got povs from. I at no point felt listening to this grating and was able to listen and keep up with ease.

Once again, another strong summer read. This genre blend of horror/thriller had some great turns. The ending of this book really was great. It wrapped up the story very nicely.

“…they feed the house. It likes it.” Creepsville!! I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I was entertained the entire time. 4 stars because I didn’t think the Raven chapters were needed. Recommended to all my followers on Instagram!

I’ve read a lot of books about spoooky houses, but this one definitely had a unique take on the trope. I listened to the audiobook of this one and I did like the narrator a lot. This was very twisty and turny and I did not see the ending played out that way. After an accident that nearly killed her, Emily and her husband Freddie are living in the country in a giant old house. Emily quickly finds some things that are spooky, but her husband brushes it off as after affects since her accident. She works to try to find the history of the house to try to figure out what is happening. While she tries to keep her secret her husband has secrets of his own. This is a new author for me but I hope to read more by this author in the future.

Wow- What a read lol. It gave me Haunting Of Hill House vibes tbh, less scary, but more eerie? Either way, I enjoyed it!! Even the 3rd POV was an interesting addition lol.
Both MCs got on my nerves though, but I def feel like it’s the malignant aura from the house causing the worse to come out of everyone. It’s own way to capture and feed… Definitely Hill House vibes, but its own take on it. Such an interesting concept, I’m intrigued to see if this would be ongoing?
‘Cause that ending!!
Overall, I enjoyed this, but there were some parts where it did become a lil background noise. I still would recommend giving this a read!!
Helen Baxendale, Jamie Glover, & Sarah Pinborough herself did amazing w/ the narration.
