This was a pretty decent read. It had a good amount of suspense and kept me interested throughout. The pacing was solid, and there were a few moments that really pulled me in. While it didn’t completely blow me away, the ending was strong and wrapped things up in a satisfying way. Overall, a solid book — not perfect, but definitely worth the read if you're into darker stories with a twist.

I found myself rooting for the "bad guy" in this story and was surprisingly happy with the ending. Good read!

Thank you Netgalley and Storm publishing for giving me this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Fran Donoghue just killed her neighbor and Detective Gareth Donoghue is married to Fran.... This was fun and told in both point of views which is my favorite to read a book when there are two characters. This was witty and sharp. Fran is pretty crazy and you will have to see what Greth does. Totally a fun read!

First and foremost, this novel had my dying of laughing and grinning from ear to ear. I was entirely gripped from the start with the introduction to the FMC Fran.
Truthfully, I am not one for multiple POV’s in a book, but I found myself enjoying the different insights way more than I normally would. The other insights felt like they were placed very well to understand things better.
Fran was entirely unhinged right off the bat, as well as lowkey being crazzzzzzzy. Loved her though , even if maybe she needs a little help.
All in all, I love the dark comedy vibes and am currently considering a re-read already for the laughs the book gave me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for the ARC copy!

My wife, the serial killer. When I read the title and the blurb, I was reminded a little of the Mindf*ck series, and I love a badass, serial killer FMC. The story was entertaining with sharp, dark humor. The main character, even though she's the serial killer, and that character tends to be portrayed as unlikable, that isn't the case here. Fran is a badass, funny, and quirky. You don't understand her motives until the end, but that's part of the charm of this book. On the other hand, her husband, the detective investigating the murder, is a wimp. It takes a while to warm up to him and start to like it, and even now, I'm not sure I ever fully liked him because he was too bland in my opinion. There were just a few times when I thought "he's okay".

The first half of the story was funny and felt fluid, but after the 50- or 60-percent mark, it started to drag. It wasn't as humorous as the beginning, so it became boring because there were parts where nothing much was happening. The ending was also predictable.

Overall, it was a good debut novel, but with a bit more character development and refinement of the writing, it could have been great.

3.5 ⭐️ Quirky, unhinged, funny! I was laughing out loud, wondering how the story would all play out and who doesn’t love a crazy main character! The book was so easy to get through, I thought it would be a 4-5 star read. However what brought my rating down was the ending, I don’t really love how it played out. It felt like Gareth’s whole personality changed and things wrapped up a bit too easy. But still an entertaining read overall, I would recommend!

My Wife, The Serial Killer by HJ Garnett, Francis and her husband Gareth have recently moved into a new home and as soon as she sees her next-door neighbor she knows she wants to kill him as a matter of fact she can’t wait. The real kicker isn’t the fact she’s killed before but that this time when their neighbor goes missing Gareth is called in to investigate. Even though he doesn’t get on with his new boss and she tells him to let it go he probably went somewhere else or maybe he’ll be found in a few days dead. Gareth instead continues to follow the clues and this is when he starts thinking his wife may just be a killer but her arrest is just the beginning. Gareth really loves Francis and totally regrets getting her in trouble but what was he to do it will be when the case goes to trial that he really knows his wife and it doesn’t stop him wanting her to come home. I usually am not a big fan of inner dialogue but I absolutely loved Francis and her inner most thoughts I loved how much they love their cat her brother who’s not really her brother there’s just a lot of love about this book and not gonna lie when I knew the whole story I did kind of agree. This book is so worth reading it’s not only funny but interesting and keeps you on the edge of your seat.#NetGalley, #TheBlindReviewer, #MyHonestReview, #HJGarnett, #MyWifeTheSerialKiller,

Absolutely unhinged lead character and smart, humorous writing = love.

This one gets 4.75 stars because rarely find a 5 these days. I wasn't super duper hooked or l'd have tipped it to a 5 though!

I was really intrigued by the premise of My Wife, The Serial Killer, a woman who casually kills her neighbor and a husband who slowly starts to realize his wife might be far more dangerous than he ever imagined. Sign me up. And to be fair, the book delivers on its promise of dark humor and chaos. Fran’s inner monologue is sharp and often hilarious, and there were definitely moments that made me laugh out loud.

That said, I found myself wanting a bit more depth. The pacing was quick, which made it a fun read, but I struggled to connect with the characters beyond the surface level quirkiness. Gareth, in particular, felt a little underdeveloped for me, and I kept waiting for a twist that never quite hit as hard as I hoped.

Still, I can see why readers are loving it’s witty, fast-paced, and doesn’t take itself too seriously. If you’re in the mood for something a little offbeat and enjoy stories with a Killing Eve vibe, this might be right up your alley. For me, it was a fun ride, just not one that stuck with me after the final page.

3.5 stars! This twisty mystery was not what I expected (complimentary) but one I enjoyed (mostly)!

Slightly less comedy of errors than I thought I’d get, this is the tale of a cop married to a serial killer (though he doesn’t know it). In a fun combo, we’ve got our very unhinged wife, Fran, and her clever but kind of unaware husband, Gareth. The cat and mouse game they’ve got going on kept me hanging on through some moments that were trickier for me to read on a personal level (TW: fertility concerns). I found myself at times rooting for one of them to succeed, both of them to succeed, and neither of them to succeed - and I’d call that good character writing!!

Thanks so much to HJ Garnett and NetGalley for a chance to read in exchange for an honest review.

i thought the premise was fun at the beginning and i wasn't vibing with the dual pov at first but i got used to it. it was a relatively short book but still felt like it dragged a bit and the ending was..... well, predictable, which is not always a bad thing but. it was lacking something. it wasn't satisfying. i liked fran and her pov but i wish she was a bit more crazy and sinister? i feel like nothing exciting actually happened in this and then it all ended with a big wrapped bow and i just wish it was way messier. especially because the title suggests that fran is a serial killer, which she herself tells us is not true since she hasn't surpassed the 3 people mark (and that remains true until the end of the book!!!)

also really not sure about the "dexter meets schitt's creek" tagline because it actually wasn't either of those things at all. the neighbors (though it was really just one, beverley) weren't weird enough to justify the schitt's creek comparison, and it wasn't gory or messed up enough for it to be compared to dexter either. but it's a hard one to compare to other existing works - it kind of just feels like a cable tv original movie from the 2010s, if anything.

A unique read - it almost feels like its own genre. A humorous thriller - something different for sure!

My Wife, The Serial Killer opens with Fran having just committed her second murder. This one, however, is close to home as it just so happens to be her neighbor. What's worse - her husband, Gareth, is a detective assigned to the missing person's case for the same neighbor. Fran struggles to keep things under wraps as her husband investigates, believing things arent as simple as they seem.

I loved the first half of this book. It was funny, gripping, and kept you on your toes! I loved having the point of views switch between Fran and Gareth, giving you a look at everything from both sides. My enjoyment started to wane as it went on - the humor was sparse, and the trial seemed to drag on - but the ending was worth it. Overall, enjoyable read!

This book was very unique- balancing humor with intense moments which really enhanced the reading experience, while providing relief and depth to the narrative. Also, the characters were well-developed and consistent, making it enjoyable to follow their journeys. Often, a complex beginning requires some patience, but it lead up to a rewarding end once you got into the story. And a satisfying ending is always a bonus, tying up loose ends so readers are left with a sense of closure. Thank you to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for the ARC.

I actually really liked the concept of this book overall and the humor in it was a nice break between intense moments! The characters were so well described and maintained throughout the book, and I really enjoyed getting to follow them. The beginning of the book was a bit hard to follow, but once I got a bit more into it I was on a roll! The ending wrapped up perfectly and I of course shoutout to Mep, the true main character 🐈‍⬛

I thought the book had a really great premise let down by execution.

Why is every single woman in this unlikeable? I’m all for having unlikeable characters, that often makes a story feel real, but there isn’t a single character in this book that I thought had redeeming qualities. I mean, seriously, am I supposed to feel sympathy towards the FMC? And Gareth was written so inconsistently as well. It just felt like the book was not properly developed. Maybe with a few more rewrites it would have gotten to where it needed to be.

Thank you for the ARC.

3.5/5

I liked the serial killer wife / detective husband dynamic, especially with the wife not being super confident. Her anxiety and overthinking was so realistic.

The pacing was good, nothing dragged on too long and I enjoyed how this wrapped up. I did find it difficult to read though, with the lack of double apostrophe (' instead of ") ~ especially when the dialogue was just in the middle of paragraphs.

My Wife, the Serial Killer is a a unique book in that I’m not really sure what genre it falls under? Not that it matters. Thanks to Storm Publishing for sending a fun read.

This book follows Fran, who lives a pretty normal life, works in child protective services after growing up in the system, and her husband, Gareth who is a police officer. The twist? Fran’s a murderer and Gareth is investigating the case, not knowing it’s hers.

The book definitely kept my attention and I think it was really cool switching between the the two POVs so you saw everything going on, but I think it did take some of the guessing out of it that could have been present. It was very witty and dry humor which I always love. Overall a super unique read that I had fun with.

First off I want to say thank you to @netgalley and @stormbooks_co for the advanced copy!

I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this, but this book delivered! It’s a twisted wild ride filled with secrets, intrigue and brilliantly dark humor. The plot strikes the perfect balance between chaos and believability, never feeling exaggerated. Each character has their own brand of madness, yet their strange charm is undeniably captivating. The darkly comedic dialogue sharpened the tension, creating a wickedly fun psychological thriller. Garbett masterfully balanced the story with heart and wit, keeping it grounded despite its potential for chaos. The story's intensity stemmed from the dual perspective: a detective husband and his murderer wife. Despite her meticulous planning, a past connection led to her downfall. I will absolutely be returning to this author in anything he writes in the future!

Highly recommend for anyone who likes thrillers with a little bit of chaos and wildness.

Married life can be murder… and I was so here for it 🔪💍😂

I genuinely didn’t expect to enjoy this as much as I did, but it completely won me over. It’s dark, it’s funny, and somehow still manages to be heartwarming in the weirdest, most delightful way.

The writing had me giggling more than once, and I loved how the full story unfolded bit by bit—just the right mix of suspense and snark. I was a little unsure about Gareth at first, but both he and Fran ended up being such well-drawn, oddly loveable characters. (P.S - I loved the cat!)

Overall, it was perfect. 👏 Totally satisfying, with just the right twist of dark humour and emotional payoff.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – Darkly hilarious, unexpectedly tender, and a total page-turner. Highly recommend for anyone who likes their thrillers with a little chaos and a lot of character.

Big thanks to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for the ARC! 🙌

We are thrown into Fran's & Gareth's world, a husband and wife dual POVs- where one is an almost serial killer and the other is a detective. From the first few chapters, we understand that Fran is on a 'mission' or spree (if you will) from her past, and we unravel it in forthcoming chapters. The two are also trying for a child! The book is humorous, though I would say the pace is slow instead of being a page turner. I appreciated Fran's chapters more than when it came to Gareth, who felt a bit flat in comparison to our humorous queen. The concept of the book is great, but it might come out under cooked with the writing in parts and character development. Thank you to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for the eARC!

I really enjoyed the first 40% of the book. It was so hilarious, the way the leads spoke was funny and very relatable to the current way of conversation. The author also wrote funny science history which really made me so in love with the book. But as we reach 50%, I was a little disappointed as the story swayed away from comedy. And it was getting alittle bored and the plot was not very interesting there after. Alittle disappointed for the plot wise. Felt alittle draggy and lost the initial engagement.
