When Fran takes out her neighbor, you'll surprisingly find yourself rooting for her - the victim had it coming, after all. But as Detective Gareth Donoghue, her husband, digs deeper, the truth gets complicated, and the lines between right and wrong start to blur. With its unique blend of skewed justice, complex morals, and dark humor, this book had me hooked. While the beginning took a little time to get going, the payoff was well worth it. The plotline could have been a bit tighter and Fran's motive behind taking out her neighbour could have been explored in a better way giving more background and emphasizing on her pain. If you enjoy complex characters, moral ambiguity, and a dash of dark humor, you'll like "My Wife, The Serial Killer". Fans of How to Kill Your Family, Everyone In My Family Has Killed Someone, and Killing Eve will particularly enjoy this thriller.

This book took me a while to get into, but once it hooked me, I couldn’t put it down. Told from dual points of view, the sharp banter and the FMC’s inner thoughts added a lot of personality and depth to the story. There’s a lot happening throughout the plot, which adds to the chaotic energy in the best way. I found it wildly entertaining to read about a serial killer married to a cop—it’s a dynamic that kept me constantly questioning whose side I was on. Both characters made me pause and think, and I loved that. If you’re a fan of Dexter or enjoy morally complex, fast-paced reads, this one’s worth picking up.

Wow. Just wow! So freaking good.

It had me hooked the very first chapter and I didn’t wanna put it down. It flowed effortlessly and was captivating the entire time.

What could be better than a serial killer married to a cop? This book delivers both humor and intrigue as we leap from Fran's thoughts to Gareth's...who will win out?

Another bonkers and very darkly humoured book! It had the requisite madness and blood and cunning plots that are so good, it also had the cute relationships that are really based and rooted in love and affection, and it had the serenely uninterested cat too. The details of the murder and gruesome and yet told in such a light way that even cutting up a body is fine and funny. The asides on the lives that Gareth and Fran are living are very astute and cutting and made this a joy to read. An unusual ending made this book even better,

Okay soooo… I absolutely LOVED this book. Like, tore through it in one sitting and cackled more times than I should probably admit for a story involving, y’know, murder.

It’s this weirdly perfect mix of dark humor, murdery chaos, and hilarious banter. I was legit laughing out loud while people were getting offed. That says something, right? (About the book… not me. Probably.)

The only thing that kinda threw me was the whole pregnancy side plot. Like… why? What are we doing with that? It felt like someone snuck in a whole other story while we were busy dealing with serial killer shenanigans.

But honestly? Didn’t even care that much. The rest was such a good time I just rolled with it. Would absolutely recommend if you like your thrillers a little unhinged and a lot funny.

I really enjoyed this book, it was very mysterious, dark and funny - perfect for fans of Bella Mackie (which I am). Serial killer wife and police detective husband duo with incredible banter. The dual POV worked really well and had me screaming at the characters because I knew things they didn't. I did see where the plot was going. I preferred the parts where the main plot line was developing and didn't love the chapters that were mostly about their normal home life. It's a nice easy read. I loved the FMC and was really rooting for her the entire time. I honestly didn't care for the MMC at the beginning but his character development towards the end really got me and I really warmed up to him!

This was such a fun read. I loved the banter in the book and I can’t believe I was rooting for the killer!

Thanks netgalley for the arc!

Fran is NOT a psychopath. She swears she’s not, even if she did stab her neighbor in the eye. And enjoy it. But she’s - ok, maybe she’s a little bit of a psychopath. But she doesn’t want to ruin her marriage to a strait-laced detective, except…there’s one more guy she’s got her eye on. But not a psychopath!

I was hooked on this morally-gray dark dramedy. Thanks to the publisher for the arc

This was very entertaining!! I loved the witty banter between Fran and Gareth and watching the whole case play out. This definitely reminds me of Dexter in the sense that I’m rooting for the killer 😆 would absolutely recommend to anyone who loves thrillers and books with twists

I enjoyed this book as a nice easy read. The mystery element was fun but not a huge tension point. It was a fun story development and the little twists and turns from the viewpoint of the husband. I also loved the banter between Gareth and Fran.

I will admit to being in the US and googling a few of the references cause it’s very UK

This book was a wickedly clever ride that had me hooked from the first chapter. The premise alone—a woman casually killing a neighbour while her detective husband investigates—was enough to draw me in, but it was the voice that really sold it. The dark humour, the sharp observations about marriage, and the slowly building tension made it feel like a psychological thriller wearing the disguise of a domestic comedy. I loved how the story balanced absurdity with real emotional undercurrents, especially in the way the characters tried (and failed) to navigate their very unconventional relationship. It left me entertained, a little unsettled, and completely satisfied.

Honestly, this book wasn’t for me. As an avid fan of Freida McFadden and Riley sager, I kept waiting for a twist that never came.
However, just because it wasn’t for me doesn’t mean it wasn’t a good book. I think it might be good for people who are just starting to read this genre. The epilogue really didn’t make much sense though.

My Wife, the Serial Killer by H.J. Garbett is an incredible story.

Fran is a killer, quite the unhinged one. Her husband is a homicide detective, how clever.

This is a dark humorous but well written story.

Really liked this one. The wife is a killer, trying to eliminate influential people who wronged her as a kid, and her husband is a police detective trying to figure out what's going on!
This was an interesting read, tragic but poignant and hopeful.

We jump right into the murder of the next door neighbor and meet Fran, the murderer. Who's husband, Gareth, is a detective of course. The book changes between Fran's point of view and Gareth's. I love books with multiple points of views! It is always interesting to flip back and forth to different people. I loved the sarcastic humor of Fran and Gareth, it added a comedic element to the suspense of whether Fran would get caught and by who. Mep, the cat, was an added character that I never knew I was missing in a thriller book!
I thought the growth and change in Gareth's character was believable, but felt slightly rushed. I enjoyed the book and would recommend. This releases June 17th 2025.

This book was a perfect murder mystery with a great touch of comedy. I loved the unique perspective of fran—the murderer, along with her ever so loyal husband. I loved mep he was just the perfect comedy relief, and I honestly wondered how he’s alive. There is absolutely nothing I can critique about this book.
