When I read, I try to escape. Fiction, specifically fantasy or sci-fi, it what I tend to prefer so I can fully escape. I do prefer the darker times. Cold Faith as a novel set in a dystopian and toxic embodying had me fighting bleakness. Basically, Webb was able suck me in to the story. I did have some issues fully caring about the characters and the storyline had me fighting a little too hard to continue in some places, but overall was an enjoyable read.
