I’ve been catching up on some older reviews from my reading list, and this one was truly a standout. While I no longer have access to the title, this is what stood out in my memory. The character development is exceptional, bringing the story to life and making every moment resonate. The pacing of the narrative is perfectly balanced, keeping me hooked from start to finish. Overall, this is an excellent book that I’m thrilled to add to my library—a must-read for anyone who appreciates great storytelling.

Our man in Charleston is a fascinating glimpse of history. Serious Civil War readers will love it. Readers less interested in the aspect of America's history will find the detail somewhat overwhelming.

Robert Bunch, a British consul, was stationed in Charleston, South Carolina from 1853 to 1863. The book was equal parts history that I was interested in and didn't know too much about (Charleston, South Carolina in the 1800's, that is), and a look at the gut wrenching, slave-owning mindset in the south prior to the Civil War.
