An Unladylike Secret offers an engaging glimpse into London society with a heroine who prefers to stay in the background but secretly wields significant influence through her pseudonymous gossip. Mira Marleigh's dual life as a quiet companion and clandestine author adds an intriguing layer to the story, especially as she becomes embroiled in a murder investigation connected to her own writings. The plot combines elements of mystery, societal intrigue, and romance, which keeps the reader invested. However, while the premise is compelling, the pacing can feel a bit uneven at times, particularly in the latter half where the resolution wraps up somewhat quickly. The romantic subplot also felt underdeveloped, leaving some of the emotional connections feeling somewhat superficial. Nonetheless, fans of historical mysteries with a dash of intrigue and social commentary will find this a worthwhile read. It’s a solid story with interesting characters, even if it doesn’t quite reach the heights of its potential.
